Simple definition of a racist:

Anyone who believes that they are inherently superior to other human beings based solely on the racial group they were born into.

In 2012, that definition fits many American conservatives and libertarians - and frequently those people are registered Republicans.

Interesting article. The premise is that the GOP is a balkanized party. It's home to survivalists in Montana and Idaho, solid old-style conservatives here in the West (note that Dem and GOP elected officials here tend to be more moderate), racists in the Deep South, etc.. The article only focuses on the racists and the idea of clearing them from the party. However, I suspect that the Christian right may be hurting them more, and be harder to deal with. The racists supply nothing more then votes, while the evangelicals provide money and grass roots organization as well.

I grew up in the South. My family has been in the South since the 1830's. I saw exactly what this article discusses.

Family and family friends who are quite definitely racists switched parties from Democratic to Republican during the 70's and 80's. I doubt they could clearly articulate why but the explanation usually boils down to something like "I didn't leave the party, it left me."

Which accounts very nicely for those smug progressives/liberals, who are frequently registered Democrats, who walk around with the, "you poor things," mentality produces lowered standards, and lowered expectations for people, based on their skin color. Hell, I once had a lazy, useless, trainee in my truck, who happened to be black, accuse me of being a racist because I expected him to show up for work on time.

Still playing the race card huh? Even though most republicans would have much preferrred Herman Cain & especially Allen West as President, but the media tore into Herman for marital infidelity, & the country isn't ready for Allen West yet, because he is too brutally honest. Give it time though. By the time 2016 rolls around you may see this country in shambles & true conservatives will be left to pick up the pieces.

If it isn't in shambles, then you can credit the power of Capitalism to take hit after hit and still keep on it's feet. You would think that would prove that we need to unleash the true power of Capitalism & get the government out of the business world by eliminating coporate & business taxes & relieve them of any burden for healthcare or pension benefits. Obviously that just doesn't register with democrats. Does the phrase "kill the goose that lays the golden eggs" mean anything to you?

I'm still laughing at these walmart strikers. The market determines wages, not the employees, & as far as working conditions go, these people get to work in a heated & air conditioned store without ever having to get dirty like a mechanic does. No sympathy here.
