you can protest yer little heart out.. just like OWS did.. (& fizzled out cuz the 1%er politicians can out-wait ya..).. but what did all that OWS protesting actually accomplish? its not like the politicians suddenly changed their stripes.. Just sayin' From the person who loves to make comments about what I post. Good morning sunshine! I bet you never heard of big protests in America, like The Civil Rights Movement, The Great March on Washington, or anything remotely related to Martin Luther King, Jr. or the "forces" that fueled major changes/shaped and contributed to American history in the past 60, 100, or 200 years or so. Oh well, you can read plenty of American history on line. I don't have the time or energy to type out facts that are common knowledge. Many, many people have fought hard for years by means of political protest here and around the world. ------- As I stated I live close to Washington D.C. and going to a protest around here is not really a big thing. When I join in a protest, I get a great feeling, of actually DOING something MORE, than just sitting back and bitching and complaining. I thank GOD that I live in a country that allows us to protest, it's just that simple. It may or may not change things, but as the many other marches I have been involved in, it makes ME feel good about "doing something". ACLU- Free Speech and the right to protest As a woman of color/ and as the descendant of people that were slaves in this country 150 years ago, I thank GOD for the people that protested, marched, and even gave their lives so that I could be free and also have the freedom and rights that I enjoy today. The last big anti-war march I attended{about 6-7 years ago} had so many teenagers, and young people marching/attending that I felt like crying. joy, joy, joy As always, it's been a pleasure. Take care and keep spreading your usual sunshine. Peace Contrary to what you think, I dont love to comment about your posts, I just dont happen to agree that protesting in todays climate does anything.. while some protests accomplished things in the distant past.. you are dealing with a totally different politiician today than the politicians your great grandparents dealt with.. protesting might make you feel good, but apart from that, what did OWS accomplish? in real terms, not just a few media soundbites.. I dont see it did anything.. the politicians either ignored it or ignored it (after making a few patronizing feel-good speeches).. what new laws came from it? can you point me to even one? In recent history, OWS should have done something to prod the politicians to actually make changes, but amazingly enough it didnt.. Its not like I havent protested myself in the past.. even tho that never accomplished anything either.. come to think about it, I didnt even feel good about that since it was an impotent act & didnt make one darn bit of difference in any real terms.. I think in much more radical terms (that a few protests).. Imo, the US needs a real revolution and scraping the entire 2 party political system.. that wont ever happen tho... jmo...
