It won't mater if we reach the hyperinflation point. They can jack up SS payments by 10 times but the money won't buy much. I just wonder if we have reached the point on no return. If the Fed starts operating the printing presses again I think it will be.

Bad news then, Lovmuffin. The presses are now running, and have been . It wasn't even news, really. Just press releases for the back page.

Of course, the story was competing with what an awful person that Romney fellow was. We certainly can't blame the media for focusing on the important stuff, can we?

you can protest yer little heart out.. just like OWS did.. (& fizzled out cuz the 1%er politicians can out-wait ya..).. but what did all that OWS protesting actually accomplish? its not like the politicians suddenly changed their stripes..

Hyperinflation (likely to happen) will kill the whole thing along with everything else.

The nuts have been hyping hyperinflation as the coming boogie man for at least a decade. We're still riding along with inflation below 2%.

Aside from the activist-infrastructure, which earned so much recognition due to their contributions in New York to the Hurricane Sandy recovery?

There's the whole 'brand recognition' thing.

Social Security is insurance. If you're worried about it's RESERVE LEVELS, simply require EVERYONE to contribute based on their ENTIRE income. No-more freeloading for those who earn over some arbitrary level.

Problem solved.

The hyperinflation nuttery is mostly coming from.....you guessed it....the right-wing-lunatic-fringe groups like world net daily.....it`s part of an anti-government agenda, the likes of which would have made the weather-underground or the SLA jealous.

Then our cons regurgitate it here.

Who would have thought during the 60s that the GOP...fathered by a president who suppressed a rebellion and made civil war on secessionists, would be today advocating for another secessionist movement and government failure?

Oh good, I feel so much better now. I hope that one little thing doesn't happen to take us over the edge like if the dollar is replaced as the worlds reserve currency. Maybe it could be China no longer wanting to invest in them. With most of the rest of world issuing fiat currency and the likely failure of the euro it could actually happen overnight. Another one of those banking investment fiascos maybe or too many people and businesses going bankrupt at the same time. Ultimately IMO the shit is going to hit the fan. It's the fault of both parties that we are at this point and they are still kicking the proverbial can down the road. When it happens it won't be pretty.

First, what definition would be ascribed to Hyperinflation? Weimar, Germany? Zimbabwe? Neither of those are likely except should poeple lose absolute faith in the Dollar.

Inflation is <2%? Really?

If we get to the Weimar Republic scenario we're fucked. I think people will begin to pull their heads out of their asses when say a loaf of bread gets up to $6 or $8. At that point it will will just be a matter of time before it kicks in full blast.

I certainly think its prudent to prepare for the possibility of an all out global economic collapse. I guess that would make me a far right wing lunatic survivalist whack job.

Good morning sunshine!
I bet you never heard of big protests in America, like The Civil Rights Movement, The Great March on Washington, or anything remotely related to Martin Luther King, Jr. or the "forces" that fueled major changes/shaped and contributed to American history in the past 60, 100, or 200 years or so.

Oh well, you can read plenty of American history on line.
I don't have the time or energy to type out facts that are common knowledge.
Many, many people have fought hard for years by means of political protest here and around the world.
-------
As I stated I live close to Washington D.C. and going to a protest around here is not really a big thing.

When I join in a protest, I get a great feeling, of actually DOING something MORE, than just sitting back and bitching and complaining.

I thank GOD that I live in a country that allows us to protest, it's just that simple.
It may or may not change things, but as the many other marches I have been involved in, it makes ME feel good about "doing something".

ACLU- Free Speech and the right to protest
As a woman of color/ and as the descendant of people that were slaves in this country 150 years ago, I thank GOD for the people that protested, marched, and even gave their lives so that I could be free and also have the freedom and rights that I enjoy today.

The last big anti-war march I attended{about 6-7 years ago} had so many teenagers, and young people marching/attending that I felt like crying.

joy,joy,joy

As always, it's been a pleasure.
Take care and keep spreading your usual sunshine.

Peace

Contrary to what you think, I dont love to comment about your posts, I just dont happen to agree that protesting in todays climate does anything.. while some protests accomplished things in the distant past.. you are dealing with a totally different politiician today than the politicians your great grandparents dealt with.. protesting might make you feel good, but apart from that, what did OWS accomplish? in real terms, not just a few media soundbites.. I dont see it did anything.. the politicians either ignored it or ignored it (after making a few patronizing feel-good speeches).. what new laws came from it? can you point me to even one? In recent history, OWS should have done something to prod the politicians to actually make changes, but amazingly enough it didnt.. Its not like I havent protested myself in the past.. even tho that never accomplished anything either.. come to think about it, I didnt even feel good about that since it was an impotent act & didnt make one darn bit of difference in any real terms..

I think in much more radical terms (that a few protests).. Imo, the US needs a real revolution and scraping the entire 2 party political system.. that wont ever happen tho... jmo...

I doubt protests have ever achieved anything. In the past it was the threat of severe social unrest or even revolution that changed things but never ever peaceful protests from what I can think of.

Britain had its biggest peaceful protest in its history against the Iraq war but it didn't stop the Britain joining in the Iraq war. I think most thinking people realised at the time, the only way protest would stop Britain's involvement in an Iraq dabacle would be if it turned into a riot. Which incidently was what happened when Thatcher was ditched by her party, an anti-tax protest turned violent. Though to be honest, her tax law was a bit like putting a revolver to her own head and pulling the trigger.
