The terrorists of 9/11 had tiny 1" knives.

A nut brings out a machete on a crowded subway train or a molotov cocktail. Crazies who want to kill people are going to find a way. Imagine a guy in the lincoln tunnel setting his car on fire in rush hour traffic, hundreds would die.

The terrorists got on the planes because of bad and sloppy security and once on there were in an enclosed space where no one could escape but it's hardly the same as a school.

As for someone going beserk with a machete in a school, that happened in Britain and someone going beserk with a Samari sword in a church and while people were badly injured, no one was killed.

Im going to steal this post from tazzygirl from another thread as it fits in with your "noone was killed" theroy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osaka_school_massacre

At 10:15 that morning, 37-year-old former janitor Mamoru Takuma entered the school armed with a kitchen knife and began stabbing numerous school children and teachers. He killed eight children, mostly between the ages of seven and eight, and seriously wounded thirteen other children and two teachers.[2]

http://www.spartancops.com/edged-weapon-mass-murder/

Of knife single mass murderers that are known to us, (11 at present), two in the USA, one in Germany, most have been in Asia, and most have targeted children in schools. Similar to the copycat active killer murders by firearms, the frightening factor with mass murder by edged weapons is that 25% of these occurred in a two-month period between March and May 2010, (China). Of the 11 mass murders by a single person using a knife known to us, there were 46 murdered, and 139 wounded. The average mass murder/attempt knife incident resulted in 16 casualties. In 92% of the cases, the specific weapon of choice was a knife. The remaining 8% was by a single actor with a meat cleaver who caused 9 murders and 12 wounded.

So a macho gun totting supporting site goes half way around the world to what? Tell us there is a spat of knife attacks in China to prove to us knives can be dangerous as a way of telling us what? Guns are less dangerous and therefore, what? Safe? I notice the site doesn't cite knife incidents where the would be killer failed to kill anyone. Convenient huh?

You certainly make it sound like if all the crazies have is knives its all just flesh wounds and happiness at the end of the day. My response was to show rampages are just as if not moreso brutal without firearms involved. who cares if its in china, japan or on mars? People were killed, are their babies any less meaningful to their mothers than American babies?

I see quite a few killed/wounded statistics in the post alone nevermind the links... maybe im confused about your point?

I can fully understand the reason for the atmosphere of paranoia one experiences when one crosses the border south from Canada into the US.

People will defend their irrational fetish for penile extension weapons with other people's lives.

Lucylastic -> RE: Armed "volunteers" in our schools (12/18/2012 3:33:04 AM)

The latest one in china didnt kill anyone...sent four to intensive care, but all those poor chinese kids will get to be home for christmas, not in caskets

Texas tower
16 dead
32 wounded

Old fsdhioned bolt action rifle

Morons think the can ban the "bad" stuff. All guns are deadly, all are capable of killing lots of people.

If getting rid of "bad" guns would end tragedies like this, i would write the law myself.

They won't.

And so, the idiots will adopt a new law which will do nothing, another tradgedy and more laws that stop nothing and viola, a major freedom and a pillar of the things that protect those freedoms is stolen...

And the tragedies continue

Well of course the tragedies will continue in the US. Auto, semi-auto; bolt action; pffft. It's the ingrained culture of paranoia in concert with the easy availability of insanely powerful weaponry.

Look no further than the gun humpers on these associated threads. For any hollow sympathies expressed for the victims and their families, dollars to dirt when this latest atrocity broke, the only thing that mattered to them was the defense of their precious right to bear arms.

Twenty kids; 200 kids; whatever - it's all collateral in comparison.

Your 2nd amendment is out-dated and broken. Fuckin' FIX IT...!

Simply, you've got some nerve putting the blame at those wanting to stop the carnage. In Oz, we shake our heads and chuckle wryly at vision of those mad Arabs celebrating some "victory" over the infidels by collectively pumping thousands of AK rounds into the air. How are the real idiots and morons (like yourself) who don't wanna fix anything any different?

Focus.

This thread is like a day out at the zoo.

To be up close and personal with all those dangerous exotics but with the comfort and security of not having to actually live with them.

Pure entertainment...! [:D]

Maybe for you....for me it's like a fucking nightmare....these are,sadly,my fellow citizens [&o]

Oz has had its own nightmares. Perhaps Port Arthur might ring a bell? Getting on to 20 years ago now, but some 36 shot dead....

Our Federal Government did something about it. Therein lies the BIG difference. Personally, they did too much - but 36 innocents were shot dead.

It seems to ring a bell, yes. Wasn't that a black ops? Someone wearing a wig with ear mufflers shooting up some bar or lunchroom or diner and someone else being framed for it?

Um yes, the person framed for it was Martin Bryant.

The purpose of the real killer appears to have been to create an atmosphere conducive to introducing a gun ban. And he and his superiors succeeded in having such a ban introduced.

Hey people, Americans and non-americans, would you please get your shit straight on what each term means?

Auto= Any weapon that fires more than on bullet when the trigger is pulled. These are strictly controlled under the various NFA laws.
Semi-Auto= a weapon that fires one bullet every time the trigger is pulled.

Do you really believe a person who wanted a gun ban killed 35 people to get it?

Bizarre.

jlf1961 -> RE: Armed "volunteers" in our schools (12/18/2012 4:14:43 PM)

That makes about as much sense as 99% of the conspiracy theories concerning 9/11, the moon landing and the assassination of JFK.

I thought thats what was meant by those terms. Other people are confused?

Looks like, people are throwing the term auto around like that is one of the problems

Okay,I'm walking away again I swear I am...but I just caught a State Rep.from Oregon on CNN suggesting that we arm "volunteers" to protect out schools. That it is too expensive to expect law enforcement to do it,but that local leo's could in fact train and vett these proposed volunteers.

I get the idea that many believe that America does not have a gun problem....that instead what we are facing is a shortage of armed responders.
In other words America does not, currently, have quite enough folks walking around with loaded weapons.

Volunteers....I wonder, should such volunteers be armed with assault rifles,I mean the last thing we want is for them to be outgunned in the ensuing gun fights ?

Military.

Let's keep them here.

(Not in some foreign country).

calamitysandra -> RE: Armed "volunteers" in our schools (12/19/2012 5:23:00 AM)

Really?

A world where there are armed volunteers, teachers, police, soldiers (take your pick) to be found in every school is desirable? That is the solution?

I am sorry, but do you even realise just how unthinkable this is to most of the rest of the free world?

Lucylastic -> RE: Armed "volunteers" in our schools (12/19/2012 5:40:57 AM)

boggles the mind eh?
only in the land of the free and the home of the "armed" brave?

They practically give away army sharpshooting badges... you gotta hit 38 out of 40 man sized targets... and if youre a crappy shot, they put good shots on either lane along side you, because the more sharpshooting badges a unit has the better it looks. It's not like he was a marine corp sniper here...

Yeah, the "Sharpshooter's Badge" is not as impressive as it sounds; that's just anyone who didn't quite qualify for the "Expert Badge" during weapons qualification.

Would you PLEASE stop thinking you know what the fuck you are talking about!

Automatic is the CORRECT term to use for a HOST of semi-automatic weapons. Automatic shotgun, automatic pistol, its also part of the full name for many cartridges, the abreviation acp refers to Colt Automatic Pistol, as in .25acp, .32acp, and .45acp.

So, full-automatic is the correct techical term for a machinegun which is itself both a colloquialism and a technical term.
