Then one of the cops goes crazy...

When the brady bill passed banning wife beaters from having guns...thousands of cops were out of a job...

Its a fucking bandaid.

Tyring to make sure a crazy person cant do crazy things rather than helping the crazy person is never going to work.

Current scholarship is firmly behind the 2nd refering to a specific right. All the early state bill.of rights ONLY spoke of the right of the individual.

Face it, you hate guns and want them.banned. Just dont make up facts to support your bigotry.

And there are quite a few ex dictators who thought they could win and there was that little country that kicked our ass.

Armed citizens defeat armed governments.

Is this directed towards me,it says Tazzy ?
I won't speak for her,but WTF find a post where either of us advocates the banning of guns.
Otherwise stop making shit up out of thin air....you look real foolish when you can't back it up

I can agree to the validity of guards at school but it can be done in a way to make it unobtrusive to a learning environment, we dont need Blackwater out in the parking lot, simple security measures can be emplaced limiting access into buildings, the local VA has a very simple setup when it comes to local security as it doubles as a mental health facility. It doesn't look like a prison, but it can be locked down quickly in an emergancy.

Heavy doors and shatterproof windows can be upgraded in buildings to limit ease of access, a simple checkpoint inside the main entrance, drills teaching students what to do where to go, much like fire and emergancy drills. I have a feeling a school can be locked up tight rather quickly in the event of a wandering psycotic. The only prohibitave thing as far as im aware is the laughable funding our school system gets.

We had a incident recently in chicago on one of the trains where i work, a man was climbing all over the locomotive with a long hunting knife trying to get the crew to come out. luckily the crews are tought to lock down the train if they stop to rest and were able to radio to the railroad police.

Are you a parent ?

p.s. also "luckily" the man had a knife instead of one of your toys

I am. What happened is a tragedy but this whole thing is a distraction. You want to save lives? Legalize drugs, universal healthcare, better jobs, hell ban SUVs and you would save far more lives.

Who wants guns banned?

SimplyMichael -> RE: Armed "volunteers" in our schools (12/17/2012 9:36:59 PM)

The terrorists of 9/11 had tiny 1" knives.

A nut brings out a machete on a crowded subway train or a molotov cocktail. Crazies who want to kill people are going to find a way. Imagine a guy in the lincoln tunnel setting his car on fire in rush hour traffic, hundreds would die.

Raptorsc -> RE: Armed "volunteers" in our schools (12/17/2012 9:37:28 PM)

Weve had idiots with guns up there as well, train locomotives are equipped with shatter resistant ballistic glass my friend, theyre tanks. I drive trains through the south side of chicago, you know that "no guns" law place where everyone but the law abiding citizens own firearms? its only a few steps up from iraq around there sometimes, highest crime rates in the united states. Tell me some more about your ideas for a gun free america.

And no i have no children of my own, but turning a school into a fortress when it doesn't need to be is going to scare the crap out of your kids.

In other words only deal with the things that you personally wish to be dealt with.
Cool,at least you are honest....it's a tragedy, buts lets be honest ,it was someone else's tragedy and as such let's not get too hasty here.
Does that about sum it up for you ?

I have been saying that. No one wants to listen.

Right now it is guns, after Oklahoma City, there was a call to monitor fertilizer sales, so the ATF got saddled with checking out bulk sales of ammonia nitrate fertilizer.

Hell you can even get the instructions to make chlorine gas on the internet, that is the first chemical agent the Germans used in WW1, also how to make vx, sarin, mustard gas.

Also available on the wonderful web are instructions for making explosives, detonators, and the explosive trigger you need.

They do not want to hear that because a bomb was not used.

Except that a bomb was used to blow up a school in 1927. We have just been lucky no one has gotten that bright idea again. The Columbine shooters tried to make bombs using propane tanks if I remember correctly.

Who wants guns banned?

I keep asking that question too
I have asked that someone point out to me where I said it,so far no takers.
I read most of your stuff, unless I missed it you have never advocated a ban either.
Neither one of us is stupid enough to think gov.agents are about to go around confiscating the things either...yet this is the reaction that keeps popping up.
Someone mentions regulation, and the NRA (or is it the Alinsky playbook)playbook declares that you start yelling about bans.

Morons think the can ban the "bad" stuff. All guns are deadly, all are capable of killing lots of people.

If getting rid of "bad" guns would end tragedies like this, i would write the law myself.

They won't.

And so, the idiots will adopt a new law which will do nothing, another tradgedy and more laws that stop nothing and viola, a major freedom and a pillar of the things that protect those freedoms is stolen...

And the tragedies continue

Glad you brought that up,really really glad.
9/11 occurred and even before planes started flying again there were a whole new batch of security regulations in place.
Americans learned to live with them.
And to be just a little safer while flying.
The shoe bomber failed to set off his stupid shoe.....yet we all now take off our shoes.
Still no exploding sneakers.
Do you see the trend here,we try, usually after the fact,to plug the holes...why should guns be any different ?
Why,with guns, are we forced to endure over and over again a repeat of the same damm incidences ?

I misunderstood your first post, and I have repeatedly apologized for that. Hell I have even said I see your point of view.

Now the bad news, if Senator Feinstien keeps saying what she wants to do on the next ban, it is going to be next to useless as the first one.

I would word the ban as follows, "All semi automatic rifles with a magazine capability of more than 10 rounds." That even covers the 900 they exempted last time. Plus I would ban the sale of All semi automatic rifles with a magazine capability of more than 10 rounds currently in inventory in distribution warehouses and in sporting goods stores and all companies that are in the business of modifying said weapons.

That effectively takes care of the problem.

But the Republicans control the house and the NRA and gun manufacturers have deep pockets. If it gets through the house, I will eat spinach, and I fucking hate spinach.

I can even agree to that wording and ban, hell it wont affect what I own because it wont be retroactive. It stops what is in the pipeline from hitting the market.

Mike, you get a petition up and I will even sign it, just make sure you get the fucking magazines I have been screaming about.

Because you got the NRA and Gun manufacturers with billions to spend on republican congressman to keep it from happening. Want to get it down, come up with a party specific virus that forces them to resign from office and hope every seat is filled with a democrat.

Additionally, he packed guns—a 35 caliber Remington rifle, a 6mm Remington rifle with a scope, a 357 Magnum Smith & Wesson revolver, a 9mm Luger pistol, and a Galesi-Brescia pistol. Later that morning he would buy two more weapons, a 30 caliber M-1 carbine and a 12-gauge shotgun. As he packed he refined his plan. At 5:45 a.m. he called Kathy's supervisor at Southwestern Bell and told her his wife was sick and wouldn't be reporting to work that day.

Turning his attention to the area of campus known as the South Mall, he began with his most accurate weapon, the scoped 6mm rifle.

For a military trained sharp shooter, I wouldnt expect anything less.

They practically give away army sharpshooting badges... you gotta hit 38 out of 40 man sized targets... and if youre a crappy shot, they put good shots on either lane along side you, because the more sharpshooting badges a unit has the better it looks. It's not like he was a marine corp sniper here...

Texas Tower was an unique situation that has been dragged out earlier in this thread(or perhaps it was another one)either way you are talking about a young man who happened to be able(this was in the late 60's) secret himself and his weapon(good luck pulling that off these days)in a just about unassailable position,a snipers wet dream position to be clear.
Unhindered fields of fire, the high ground,a 360 degree shooting gallery...and no way to get at him...one way up,one way down.

A singularly bad example...it proves absolutely nothing other than the fact that you are quite adept at grabbing at straws and perhaps under the impression that no one else has ever read a book.

edited because I am tired and said "early 60's,it was actually August of '66...thanks tazzy, after I posted I saw your post and clicked the link....lol,I'm tired(not as tired as someone else around here, but still tired.

Maybe now... wasnt always that way.

He was in the marine corp.
