People are uneducated but afraid to say so, so this is the result. paranoia, bans, hatred, fear mongering, stupidity, death.

All of it avoidable, with education, responsibility, knowledge...

All I can say is that those two lines would only make sense in the context of a very *American* debate about guns, Raptor. Me, it'd be like talking about which is the more dangerous to meet coming along a street in London, a bear or a tiger. *That* is how alien this thread looks, I'd suggest, to non-Americans.

I know what youre sayin peonfor her but as youve noticed people suddenly get very... aggressive when told they are afraid, suddenly they know it all and are making that "right" choice, when bottom line is you have no right to make my choice for me no matter how "right" you think you are.

No, 10 posts mean you dont know the posters here well enough to determine if anyone is afraid, or angry, or being "mean" to you.

Quit generalizing and we may get along better.

That's gold.

-----

Here's an editorial from USA today -- arguing that that Gun laws, not guns are the problem.

I can't think of one way to have prevented this CONN massacre. The NRA and Bushmaster Rifle have declined to issue any comments about this shooting. Their silence says it all.

It's just sad.

None of that is name calling. You sound like your feelings are hurt. And, please, dont take my words out of context.

I never once said someone was *mean* I respect their thoughts as i expect them to respect mine, I understand where people want reductions in magazine sizes, lockdown of weapons, and for crisis's to be avoided, the issue isn't going to be resolved through stringent gun control is the topic im on.

the few of you who have the opinion (which i respect though disagree with) that a reduction in mag size or the banning of weapons is going to save anything is just ludacris.

A gun in the right hands is a great thing.

A gun in the wrong hands is a terrible thing.

Problem is, too many guns are getting into the hands of people who never should have them to begin with, and they are getting them from law abiding, legal gun owners.

How do we solve that problem?

Still not able to show me where I called you names..... interesting.

As to the rest, there are many here who are on both extreme ends of the debate.. and some who are in the middle. Perhaps availing yourself of the other threads might be beneficial. Im not sure, but it could.

I posted earlier make mandatory gun classes and registration is a positive step. You have to take courses and a test to own a car. most of these shooting could have possibly been avoided through properly educated gun owners. the boy who did the shooting obtained his weapons supposidly through the inability or possibly desire of his mother to secure the household weapons. I can only speculate she didn't have the training and / or responsibility to own such weapons.

As a rather rabid gun owner myself I had no problems whatsoever submitting my forms and going to my police station to obtain my concealed carry licence as im sure many of the proper gun owners on this site do. I submit my tax stamps, and keep my weapons in a safe where they belong. no child will be walking out with anything i own to shoot up a school. Im sure if you have children the rules are ingrained in yours as well.

What needs to change? society needs to change. People need to stop blaming everything but themselves for the problems caused by a specific incident. If i had a child in my home this would be made into an abstract lesson around my home for them.

as for legal gun ownership, tightening up the reigns? yes i can get behind that, outright banishment solves nothing.

you called me a mind reader you were condescending in your tone you made my 10th post seem less important because it was merely a 10 instead of a 231597238971. you dont look down on people and their opinions because of their posted number, you shouldn't look down on anyone in fact, i respect your opinion in the matter, but i think your tone is very out of line. Were having a discussion here that didn't spiral into a free for all and you came in calling people mind readers and talking trash.

She was part of a shooting range club, from my understanding. So she had some training and knowledge.

Who do I blame?

Irresponsible gun owners. Obviously, this mother constitutes as one. She knew someone in her family had problems.... or maybe she was in denial and didnt believe he did. He was an adult child.. not a kid... so we must take that into consideration. He shot her multiple times in the head. Could he have forced her to open the safe? its a possibility. Or she may not have had them locked up at all.

Jeff (JLF) took great exceptions to my suggestions. I am sure you would as well.
