There have been police in the schools since Columbine. The new high school and the remodeled schools all also have digital cameras all over the place. And all doors are kept locked, unable to be opened from the outside. The doors closest to the office have an intercom and a buzzer. I had to go to a high school recently and I knew before going that I had to locate my employee ID because I don't use it.

We have had some shootings the past few years on the Edinboro Campus of the PA State U. Security has tightened up there. Oddly, the safest college campus is the one right in my downtown. Anybody can walk right into any building except student housing with no problem and there has never been any trouble. But there are cameras and they have a fairly large campus police plus the city police station is right across the street from the main administration building.

Its been mostly high and middle schools. Did you see the story about the 11 year old who took a gun to school locally here? He waved it at two of his friends on the school yard. Said he was scared after the Sandy Hook incident and wanted it to protect him and his friends. Apparently he got it from someone his parents let stay with them temporarily.

If you want it sugar coated, dont ask me what i think! It would violate TOS.

Yeah, I heard that from one of my clients the minute I walked into work this afternoon.

Scary stuff.

But inevitable, sadly.
Still, at least the lad was just waving his gun around and showing it to his friends: what would have been his response if somebody had tried to bully him that day?
