VideoAdminChi -> All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:03:31 PM)

Some of you may remember how we created one thread for "All things Zimmerman." Alpha asked me to create this "All Things Gun Control" thread. All other gun control threads will be locked.

tazzygirl -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:05:27 PM)

Thank you Chi

kdsub -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:12:30 PM)

This is not wise...my thread was carefully worded with intelligent discourse that needs the total bulk of the thread to make intelligent responses. You have destroyed its usefulness.

tazzygirl -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:18:04 PM)

Chi didnt destroy anything. She has her orders. Come on, Butch. If you want to have your thread reopened, then take it to Alpha.

Focus50 -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:20:17 PM)

It's called "censorship by stealth".

You funnel "discussion" into one tight corner, thereby stopping most from even bothering.

Think the Admins like their guns, too.

Focus.

SimplyMichael -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:21:27 PM)

We didn't ban gun threads, we just made reasonable restrictions.

kdsub -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:21:49 PM)

I took it to her as I should... she can and will act if she pleases...I follow the proper chain of command.

Butch

Focus50 -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:25:24 PM)

This "Zimmerman"?

Polarised a planet, nation and website on the same level as gun massacres, yes?

Focus.

Anyways....

N.R.A. Calls for Armed Guards in Schools, but No Gun Curbs

WASHINGTON — After a weeklong silence since the Connecticut school shootings, the National Rifle Association on Friday called for a program to arm and train guards in schools as the best way to protect children from gun violence. The group blamed video games, the news media and lax law enforcement – but not guns – for a recent rash of mass shootings.

Video games? Nope.. dont think so. Cant say they didnt make someone kill earlier.. then blame them now.

News Media reported what was happening... they didnt cause anything to happen.

Lax law enforcement? I can see that, just not in the way they mean it.

quote:

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” said Wayne LaPierre, the N.R.A.'s vice president, at a packed media event was interrupted twice by protesters demanding tougher gun controls.

How about stopping a bad guy from getting a gun to begin with?

quote:

Angry and combative, Mr. LaPierre, who has led the N.R.A.'s operations for two decades, complained that the news media had unfairly “demonized gun owners,” and he called the makers of violent video games “a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people.”

Wow, shall we ban video games instead? I know many of you play. Whats your take on his comments regarding that?

quote:

Mr. LaPierre’s defiant tone suggested otherwise. He and David Keene, the group’s president, took no questions from reporters at the event who called out asking whether they planned to work with President Obama.

After silence for a week... did anyone actually expect them to answer questions?

quote:

The N.R.A.'s main answer to school violence was a model program it unveiled called National School Shield, which would train and arm security guards at schools in those local districts that want to use it.

The group said it would pay for a task force to develop details for the model, and named Asa Hutchinson, a former Arkansas congressman and a strong supporter of the N.R.A., to lead it.

“Assurance of school safety must be restored with a sense of urgency,” Mr. Hutchinson said. The gun group called for schools to arm their security officers immediately.

What is wrong with arming out Vets for these positions? I would rather have someone trained in weaponry than someone who is trained how to be a mall cop. This, to me, is about as bad as arming teachers.

quote:

He said that armed security guards at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., on Dec. 14 might have stopped the gunman, Adam Lanza, at the outset of his rampage. “Will you at least admit,” Mr. LaPierre said, appealing directly to members of the news media who he said had been unduly skeptical of the N.R.A., “that 26 innocent lives might have been spared that day?”

He added, “The only way — the only way — to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection.”

And yet no requirement to make gun owners responsible themselves.

quote:

“Why is the idea of a gun good when it’s used to protect the president of our country or our police but bad when it’s used to protect our children in our schools?” he asked. “They’re our kids. They’re our responsibility. And it’s not just our duty to protect them; it’s our right to protect them.”

Because its not mall cops protecting out President.

~ FR ~

Next to tits on a bull, there is nothing more useless in a conversation about guns than the opinions of people deemed by their governments to be untrustworthy of owning one.

VideoAdminChi -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:43:44 PM)

FR,

The purpose of this thread is to consolidate all the threads about gun control. Feel free to start a thread about moderation in Off Topic.

Thank you for your participation.

Chi

kdsub -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 2:50:09 PM)

It is impossible and inappropriate to consolidate threads that are so varied in their points of view and still have an intelligent conversation... but I will say no more.

We must hold legal gun owners responsible for the acts of gun theifs? good idea first they get robbed then they are considered acceoriies to the crime. Like saying a woman should be aressted for being raped.

Powergamz1 -> RE: All things gun control go here (12/21/2012 3:40:01 PM)

'All things gun control' includes the thread on '*Instead of guns* we should be talking about mental health'? WTF????

How many gun owners do not lock up their guns at home? Its like a woman walking down a pitch black alley at night. Yep, she should be able too, and she should expect to come out the other side unharmed... but the chances of that are not all that good, are they.

People know the risks of their homes/cars being broken into... yet they feel no compulsion to make it difficult for a thief to get at the one thing that will ensure they can rob other people?

I hold irresponsible, but legal, gun owners responsible for failing to secure their weapons.

It also subsumes threads on the problem of inner city crime, trusting the government and police, armed volunteers in schools, the constitution, etc., etc. So, I dunno. Just go with it.
