Smallish nation that we are (by population), we do have modern and very well equipped armed forces. It's their job to defend the nation. As do specialised units of our assorted Police Forces. They are the only ones to legally have auto and semi auto weapons available to them. Though standard issue pistol for the average beat cop is also a semi auto. (Glock) And probably registered private security firms have them, as well. The big problem with your ancient 2nd amendment is that there are no foreign invaders threatening - haven't been for centuries. Your cultural paranoia is really about the "enemy within" - your own freakin' neighbours are the ones likely to threaten your home and person in some way, not some mythical foreign invader. You know, the ones with exactly the same right to bear arms as yourself. Now, where does it end? What if the rowdy yobbo up the street has 13 guns to your 12? How many does it take to "feel" safe, 14? More? Truth is there's no such thing as enough - that the problem is and has always been waaaaaay too many, now! Focus.

Maybe you should read the quote I posted by Thomas Jefferson. The truth of the matter is that the threat to the citizens of the United States is none other than the government of the United States. Since 9/11 the government has slowly eroded, limited or circumvented basic principles of law. Two separate and independent secret court systems exist in addition to the established state and federal courts. Both courts can issue search warrants that can be acted on without notifying the subject of the warrant. One deals with terrorism one deals with drugs. Prior to that laws were passed by congress and signed by the president that allows for the confiscation of property or money without due process. Mao said political power rests in gun ownership. Once the government starts eliminating the bill of rights, then this country is no longer of the people. Actually the government belongs to big business, not the people.

I have not made up a single fact, If you do not like my contition that England/wales has a higher violent crime rate than the U S take it up with the British home office it was their firgures I used people who don't have pets know all about training thime people who don't have kids consider themselves to know all about rearing them and people who don't have guns feel it is their duty to talk down to those of us whoh do , you see a pattern there? responsible ownership rule 6 know your firearm/ammunition you must know how to use any firearm well and safely you must know how far rounds will carry and how much penitration for example unless you live alone out in the country only a fool would use a .308 for home defense as it will penetrate the neighbors wall let alone yours
