Let me clear up the "what is a fake" question. A fake is a person acting or pretending to be a Dom or pretending they are interested but do not go beyond internet chat or even a phone call before an in person meeting is set up. I KNOW this is the internet and I put forth great EFFORT and HONESTY and it would be nice to see the same in return. However since it is the internet I realize it is part of the process. It amazes me that a person gives out their phone number with no intention of going beyond 1 phone call.. do they think you won't call again?? Sorry I know I am ranting.. Darksteven you gave the best advice TY. Also thank all of you for your thoughts and feedback.

I wouldn't define fake this way but thanks for clarifying your definition.

I have found that practicing non-attachment until I have actually spent time with the person IRL minimizes disappointment and thus suffering.

KYsissy -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/28/2012 3:13:33 PM)

To be honest, I cannot recall corresponding with a single fake on this site. MANY MANY people that were incompatible for a myriad of reasons. Some on my end some on the other end. But I cannot recall anyone that I would call fake. But then I am not a sub female so I'm sure I don't get nearly the emails as the OP.

I have run into many fakes not just here but in other sites. I know it happens especially on the internet. what is your advice on how to filter who are fakes and who is real? Even when given a phone number, address and full name it hasn't made a difference.

French Press?

Update your digital filter?

CORYVAR -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/29/2012 5:14:07 AM)

fake means a money scammer theif con artist

theywont meet just demand money after short memmo exchange.

Most in scene are happyin couples/poly etc those active graduate to fetlife or informed conscent.

A few use this place as a datingsite as real ones are full of vanilla people

the uk fakes are usually declaring ages to be 18 to 23 and location as "UK UK" "online only" "yours" "willing to relocate". All the new Dommes over holiday were fakes (apart from three ladies0 thta in UK selection.

if picture looks too pretty 90% chance that is fake.. =)

Please tell me this was said tongue to cheek and not a serious statement. Lol

It was a serious statement. If you're a male Dom looking at female sub profiles, you run across a lot of badly spelled ones that confuse lifestyle with kinky sex, and use stolen pics, sometimes porn shots and sometimes glamor shots, from the Net. If you define "fake" as scammer profiles making a nonexistent dream woman asking complete strangers to be her Master (sometimes doing it so badly as to read like a reply to a letter), then david has a point although I wouldn't peg the number as high as 90%.

I don't know what it's like for Domme profiles, nor male profiles.

Of course, the definition of "fake" is pretty elastic. Some of the other profiles I have heard of as fake include:

Married men pretending to be single.
Men pretending to be women.
Someone pretending to be sub who is a fetishist without any intent to submit.
Someone masquerading as a Domme who's only in it for tribute.
A man who pretends to be a Dom because he thinks sub women are easy.
The lesbian quartet.
Someone who refuses to cam nekkid.
Someone who demands that another cam nekkid.
Deliberate socks for amusement. For example, our resident anteater once created a female tribute Domme anteater profile. (I idly read her profile and got a message from "her" saying "You peeked at my profile! Send me money!")

TheLilSquaw -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/29/2012 5:34:49 AM)

Really, damn I have meet a lot of women on both sides of the kneel who are who they claim to be and have beautiful profile pictures.
*shrugs*

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/29/2012 5:52:32 AM)

The word "fake" can mean many things to many people.

To me, "fake" is simply someone pretending to be who or what they aren't.

That could be many things, including....
Someone who puts their location as UK but is in reality somewhere else seeking a meal ticket (genuine or otherwise).
Males pretending to be females. That also goes for all those "sissy" males and TV/TG males registered as 'females' and vice-versa.
Profiles of those saying "willing to relocate" but have no intention of doing so.
Anyone who spins you a yarn online but has no intention of following through.
Those that agree to meet up but then just disappear without trace or just ignore you.
...the list is almost endless.

The one thing that I don't think of as 'fake' is when someone is just incompatible.
That's whole different ball of wax.

You mean...I didn't have to send her..it...whatever...money? [8|]

Damn you, unscrupulous anteater!!

DarkSteven -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/29/2012 6:14:21 AM)

I try to keep an open mind, YKINMK and all that. But interspecies relations between a bunny and an anteater just seems wrong.

myotherself -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/29/2012 8:47:04 AM)

CORYVAR -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/29/2012 4:46:50 PM)

Fake is defined as a theif or a confidence trickster using a bogus photo to financial gain. Yhey use this site to make contact then get into email asap. All sites suffer from them but this one seems to have a bumper crop at the mopment. Shame its wrecking sites reputation

give away signs are UK UK for location weights in KG instead of Lbs and native american instead of carribean.

Lilly425 -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/29/2012 5:27:15 PM)

I don't think in terms of "fake" or "real" but rather in terms of compatibility and honesty. I've "met" some wonderful men here who I'm sure are both "real" and Dominant based on the kind of Dom they want to be. So far, I just haven't met someone compatible with what I'm looking for. I don't get discouraged because I typically learn more about myself with everyone I meet, even if we aren't compatible. I've only had one negative experience here with someone who I believe flat out lied about his name, marital status and who knows what else. But even then, I just chalked it up as a learning experience and moved on.

We've talked to a couple of fakes. One was a guy posing as a woman. It was obvious very quickly that it was a scam. "She" was willing to relocate that afternoon to be with us. Gave us a little info and we came up with the guy's name and home info on Google. After that, we just toyed with him. It was fun.

Angelcurvysub -> RE: How to filter the fakes? (12/30/2012 7:31:10 AM)

Fake for me means they are not being honest-about being a Dom, being single. I have met men who claim to be Doms who clearly are NOT. I know it is part of the process. I understand it takes time with chatting, meeting ect. It is the internet lol. What really bugs me is don't tell me to call you again unless you mean it because it is really rude to not answer your phone because you are too much of a coward to be real and tell me the TRUTH. I like what DarkSteven says and I appreciate all the advice and brutal honesty. Life moves on every day every minute. I have no doubt the right Dom is out there for me. I know I have much to offer the right Dom. So my adventure continues and that's ok!!

Not everyone from the UK is fake. However, they DO all talk funny.

Fake is someone pretending to be a sentient being while they are not.
