Cant speak for Tennessee... the case you cited was California.

Nor am I trying to outlaw guns.

Lots of folks are tho.
Guns are deadly when misused. so are cars, hammers and about anything else that's hard, heavy, pointy......
Unfortunately, there are always lobbying groups that fight for 'their' people.
The NRA is way too extreme for me even though Im a gun owner.
AARP is responsible for deaths every year because they fight licensing and testing standards for elderly drivers, etc, etc, etc.
Guns just get the rap because the news media can sensationalize them.

I agree, they are deadly when misused.

A gun laying on a table, loaded, cocked, still cant kill until someone/something pulls the trigger.

Now, here is my problem. Who the hell leaves a loaded gun lying around? An animal can knock it off, a child can play cops and robbers, a family member can waltz in and horse play around, someone can see it and decide later to steal it. Or it can sit there for 100 years, undisturbed.

I simply cannot call someone a responsible gun owner who takes such little regard for his/her responsibilities as to leave something lying around that can kill.

Who is doing that? Name names.

Utah police officer Owen Leathman's 2-year-old son, Linkin, died after accidentally shooting himself with his father's gun. The toddler's short life is even sadder because he was born with many medical complications that he fought through, earning him the title of miracle baby.

The child's parents didn't realize that they had left the gun out long enough for him to find and like most children, curiosity got the best of him. They have decided to donate his heart and corneas and told relatives that instead of bringing flowers to the funeral that they should do something memorable with their families. This must be such a hard time on these poor parents who struggled seeing their little boy suffer the first few months of his life, then recuperate, and suddenly lose his life.

tazzy, it has been pointed out many times now that guns are used for things like skeet shooting and Olympic sports. thus, no killing.

Allow me to clear up some misconceptions you seem to be having.

I hunt.... I hunt with a rifle and a bow. I hunt to kill, not to target practice.

Next time, mail me, not someone else.

FR
The guns used in this crime and other
mass killings like it are not needed or
used for hunting, self defense or sport
shooting. Even Al Capone didn't use his
tommy gun to go duck hunting.
These guns and the ammo they use
have one one purpose which is to
kill as many people as possible in the
shortest amount of time which is why
they don't belong in any hands but the
military. Banning one type of guns and
ammo doesn't mean banning all guns.
Get off the slippery slope gun paranoics
and come to grips with the fact that the
government is always going to be able
to out man and out gun you. Get rid of
automatic weapons like these in the hands
of private citizens would offer some
protection from these sorts of crimes
from occurring. Other things are needed
to but just taking these weapons whose
sole purpose is mass homicide would
be a giant move forward.
