LaTigresse -> RE: The name says what? (12/31/2012 5:20:44 AM)

Certainly the names people choose have some bearing on how I think of them as a person. Not so much the name by itself but in compilation with their chosen photos/artwork, and their words. All of it together USUALLY gives a pretty clear indication of what sort of person they are. Even when they haven't a clue what that is.

Oside girl, that just turns my stomach. As a rape survivor, I'd rather see him shot, but then I'm weird like that.

Unless you're talking about him being shot repeatedly in the kneecaps, you'e being way too nice.

Toysinbabeland -> RE: The name says what? (12/31/2012 8:27:59 AM)

My name is taken from a sex toyshop in nyc.
It just makes me laugh is all.
They are very nice people there.
Is it overly sexual? Maybe.

crazyml -> RE: The name says what? (12/31/2012 10:49:45 AM)

So quick question... Does my nick ring the wierd bell?

No, not for me. I just figure (like most usernames) it means something to you. A lot of people have been online for years using the same set of usernames and I figure most people picked them just because they knew they would remember them. One or two stick out as fun or clever.

The only ones that give me a negative impression are the ones that are about a particular sex act, because it makes me think they were mid-masturbation whilst making the account.

Eh to me a true crazy person rarely proclaims to be crazy Lol

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: The name says what? (12/31/2012 11:07:12 AM)

I avoid overtly sexual names and names making deragatory references to themselves or others. Big turn off. One guy writes to me every so often and I never respond because his name is something like (but not) master oral licker and I'm just not interested.

I've always thought CrazyML was an amusing and appropriate name, but I had your posts to relate to. Posts that are often witty and charming. However, I don't think I'd have had any negative reactions to it. Crazy doesn't necessarily imply negative connotations. Crazy can be fun, spontaneous, off center etc.

When I see JeffBC's name, I always read it as JeffBeforeChrist...which amuses me.

Okay, so I'm admittedly relatively new, and I know the adage about not judging a book by its cover, but still... is it just me, or does someone's profile name have the ability to make you turn away before even reading their profile? In the bdsm community especially, is it not less a judgmental thing than a real indicator thing? For example, if someone's name was 'WomenAreBitches' (please god don't let that really be someone's name... I just improvised!), isn't it reasonable for someone who isn't into degradation or humiliation to assume things from that?

I'm probably rambling, so I'm going to hush now [:)]

I think you're right....

For example.....

"I'dLikeToKillYouAndEATyouandthenspityouout" is not a good screen name.

"FUCKYOUandthehorseyoucameinonyoufuckingbitch" is also a bad screen name. It portends to something that is less than enticing.

"YOUpeiceofshitpigI'vealwayshatedyourmotherandfranklyyourfatherisalsoapieceofshit" would also be a poor choice as to someone to respond to.

(Hope I've helped).

Not to me. I think it suits your posting style in a contrasty sort of way since you're posts are anything but "crazy".

ResidentSadist -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 2:32:28 AM)

To the OP . . . I guess you can take my screen name at face value eh?

littlewonder -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 2:35:59 AM)

crazyml...nah, never bothered me. I know lots of people who use crazy in their names. Most of the time they are just funny or fun people to hang out with and actually, pretty decent people. They just sometimes have some quirky habits hehe.

ResidentSadist...yeah I'd say it fits you well. [:D]

Yeah, but maybe it's a double bluff?

<just sayin>

If it is, then you hide it well crazyml.

metamorfosis -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 3:55:56 AM)

The guy with "murder" in his name just gives me the creeps.

Pam

WomanlyWiles -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 5:21:57 AM)

Overtly sexual names like 'HungWhatever' or one that reference a specific kink, particularly if their profile is all about said kink. I'm also not fond of one which are just letters like hfgj of boring ones like the hundred and one variations on ScottishSub I see, purely because I find it difficult to remember who is who.

plesto -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 7:27:06 AM)

Based on my observations on alt whilst in some of the chatrooms there. The ones with sexual usernames typically were the ones that wanted to be watched on cam, would come in and ask for a Mistress or Master or would use the PM function to send overly sexual messages to people.

My username means nothing to me its just an online name I have for certain sites. Originally it was a name someone else modified for me which I modified again by cutting off the slave part, as the slave part was very inaccurate and not who I am.

needlesandpins -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 7:37:59 AM)

any name with goddess and such is going to make me role my eyes so much i can nearly see my brain. again as others have said, names that are all kink orientated. that may seem rich coming from me being called needlesandpins, however, it's actually a song title as the name i use elsewhere was already taken.

needles

DOM68005 -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 11:28:30 AM)

Yes - UserNames do matter as a first impression. Like marketing, some UserNames do attract attention ... sometimes in a way unintended. I have seen profiles for sub females advertising as wanting a Master or Dom whose UserName included a name commonly thought of as belonging to a guy. I had thoughts of either a trasgendered person or someone already owned or collared. I have seen UserNames that I associate with a powerful person or occupation used by someone wishing to be used as a submissive or slave.
The ones that make me roll my eyes are those who marked Dominant Male Wanted, but the profile says looking for a female only. Clearly something was missed there.

I come from an era where Bill or Billy was a guy's name and Billie was the female version.

Mine is simply my BDSM role and zipcode.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 11:39:08 AM)

fast reply

I've also noticed a number of names which seem to refer to what they are looking for, rather than what they are, which is confusing.

For example (just pulling these out of my ass, not meaning to use real names etc) a male dom called 'slavegirlfordaddy' - I wonder how they don't look at that and think 'Uh-oh, that makes it sound like I'M the slave girl'. I've seen quite a few examples of that, seems like bad marketing to me.

Winterapple -> RE: The name says what? (1/1/2013 12:43:13 PM)

FR
I frequently see user names that repel me
or put me off because they sound so dumb.
I know it's unfair to think everyone who gives
himself a honorific is humorless and has stayed
to long at the Ren Faire but that is usually
my first thought. The name and profile
pic you choose are the first impressions
people have of you.

I think some of the lurid names are
fake profiles. The explicitly sexual or
fetish oriented ones are helpful for
weeding. And some people are pitching
for a perceived target audience.
Worthless Broken Toy Cocksucker
probably thinks she's being quite the
sexy minx.

Crazyml rings a droll, amusing and intelligent
bell for me so it reflects it's user very well.
Resident Sadist is likewise a great moniker
for he who uses it.
