Honestly? They have no terms of service?

not sure if you were asking me directly, however, i never said they had no TOS, or that they had no moderators. i said that people are left to their own devices. generally i find that people are far less sensitive than here. try abuse would be delt with, not calling someone out on their own crappy behaviour. people act like twats in here because they can hit report when people point it out and claim 'personal attack'. on sites where you are allowed to point out that someone is acting like a twat they don't because they can't get away with it. they modify their own behaviour or leave to find somewhere where it's pandered to.

LaTigresse -> RE: Sorry, the truth is not a defense to personal attacks. (1/4/2013 12:08:55 PM)

The only other site I've ever been on that had anything similar.......chat/message boards...... had so little moderation you literally had to seriously threaten a person's life to have a problem or get a message. The way shit was handled, if a poster was so offensive you couldn't stand reading their shit, you put them on hide/ignore/whatever it was called.

The offensive person would just end up talking to themselves and give up, disappearing. Usually never to be seen/heard from, again.

there's lots of forums online with no moderators. They've been around for years and still going strong. I belong to quite a few and Master are on a few as well where there is no moderation.

Bdsm sites are the only sites I've ever seen it be a problem.

ETA: Oh and those sites get into worse conniption fits and tearing each other apart worst than here. For me this is nothing and just reminds me of recess time on the playground lol. Bdsm sites always seem to be much more sensitive. Dunno why.

i agree with this. while other vanilla sites i belong to do have some moderators, of which i have also been a moderator, they are not there to police the forums. they are generally there to offer advice, find glitches, and act as a go between if one member can't get in touch with another that may have left.

generally people are left to there own devices. bdsm and swinging sites are the only ones where i've ever seen mod's ripping out posts, or thread for people going off topic/deviating, or telling it how it is.

It's always hard to make this post without violating ToS all on My own.

I'm never going to be in favor of no moderation on kink sites. The stuff that is on the guidelines that is in the "don't ever post that shit here" categories still comes up from time to time. Not the cutesy stuff that was on the "Trainwreck" thread, but the reason behind the rule that came up on the trainwreck thread.

The overwhelming majority of the regulars on the site are opposed to non adult kink here. That's only because having moderation has made it that way. If you have no moderators to pull that kind of content when it shows up, what do you do when the site is infested with it?

That was part of my point. Thank you for stating it far better than I did. I can hide most everyone, that wont prevent the major violations or the legal problems coming from them. A community, even a BDSM one, has rules, typically set by the majority of the members, initiated by the owners or leaders of that community.

This one is no different.

i'm not sure i'm totally understanding what you mean LP. sorry, i have a massive headache at the moment, so if i'm wrong please correct me....even if it means in a pm to prevent yourself getting a GL

i assuming you mean the pics of minors, and other illegal sexual stuff, or that could be seen that way? if so, the yes i'm all for that too. i posted a pic in the trainwreck without even giving it a thought. it was pulled and i just happened to then see the resulting warning in there. all cool, i screwed up without thinking. that is not what i have a problem with. i'm talking purely person to person debating, or calling out crappy behaviour, topic drift and such.

JstAnotherSub -> RE: Sorry, the truth is not a defense to personal attacks. (1/4/2013 12:43:26 PM)

I have been moderated once. It was for calling an asshole an asshole.

I knew I would get a gold letter as soon as I hit enter, but it was worth it to me.

The asshole reported me, proving that they were an asshole even more, and I had some time off from posting.

I am still here, the asshole is off assholing elsewhere I guess, and all is right in the world.

While I do not agree with every decision made by the mods, I do believe that, in the end, assholes are outed. I would rather tell them that they are an asshole, but, the rules here prohibit me from doing that, so, I report assholes.

If the mods agree with me on my asshole assessment, the asshole disappears. They almost always agree with me, and the few times they have disagreed I have just accepted that they are human and allowed to be wrong[:D].

I absolutely believe every one is entitled to their feelings, but I also feel like the questions have been answered over and over and over. Post as you want to, be prepared to be moderated if you choose to call an asshole an asshole, rather than report it, and quit the bitching.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm going to disagree with that ladyP
The non moderated boards I was on stayed free of 'non adult sexual activity'
They did it because everyone who was a regular was vehemently opposed to it.
When people who were chronoligically not an adult came in, we weren't above taking action up to and including sending an email to parents (we had a few people who could do that)
Those who came in looking for the same were roundly ostracised and soon realized their prey wasn't around anyway so they left (probably to yahoo or aol chat).
Lord knows how many undercover cops we were nasty to LOL.

Needles, you got it just fine. [:)] Sorry to hear about the headache.

Hill, I'm glad it worked for the board that you are referring to. How would that board have handled a picture of illegal activity posted in the middle of the forums if no one had the power to remove it?

I'm not familiar with your particular case, but the majority of the time it's not "the assholes" who report posts calling them assholes, but other posters. I can't speak to these poster's motivation, but when I used to report posts of Poster A calling Poster B an asshole, my motivation was due to a preference for civil discourse.

We had people post some nasty stuff. They didn't last long.
Those pics may still be on some server buried under tons of trash and a dozen years of history. Kinda like the Ark of the covenant boxed up in the basement of the Pentagon and about as accessible.

I think the problem with that is the legal responsibility of the CM owners.

care to send me links to a few?

There is always the usenet newsgroups and 4chan but I like sociallyuncensored.eu, anonboard.com, godlikeproductions.com and forums.philosophyforums.com/unmoderated

There's also selfishheathens.com that is pretty popular but it's a site for atheists and being I'm not an atheist I don't really go there. I've lurked a few times though just out of curiosity.

Same here. Those sites that I go on that are moderated, only ever moderate for the same exact reasons. I think moderators on bdsm always get touchy because they are always afraid the site will get shut down for its sexual nature and so they are over-protective. It's like the South Park episode where they build up a wall to keep all the pedos out and then realize there's no one left in the town lol.

Not to nitpick, but neither 4chan nor godlike are exactly good for much more than mild entertainment.

The thread I mentioned it in has now been pulled [8|]

The fucking TRUTH is not a defense?

This is on a kink site that stresses TRUTH.
Are we going to modded for saying "Damn dude, you're short" to a guy who is 5'2? It's the fucking TRUTH
If a woman says she weighs 425, will someone get a Gold Letter for saying "Dayum, that's fat"? It's the fucking TRUTH

This kindergarten bullshit and catering to whiny bitches is the point of the thread and you fucking DELETED IT.

Go ahead Mods, fucking delete this one too. I EXPECT NOTHING LESS

I got a weird mail from a mod too, a couple of months ago. It said that I would be put on moderation immediately in the case of either A or B. Thus preventing me from trying to save millions of people in future generations from being born evil and with inherited diseases.

I do not think that is wise. But it is their website and I am a guest here. And if I lose interest, I can choose not to frequent this website any more.

I wonder what I would do if they required me to worship a squimel in the opening sentences of my every post:

Hail, mighty squirmel! Praised be thy cognomen. Hallowed is thy breath. Squirmel away, most illustrious of all squirmels!

Leave, probably.

Anonboard.com

http://www.anonboard.com/bbs/faq

quote:

3. What can I post about?
Anything except spam or child porn. Don't post those. We define spam rather broadly. Common examples other than blatant advertising include repetitive topics about the same issue, posting offensive pictures in unrelated threads, and other annoying behavior. As for the second category, please refrain from posting anything that involves children altogether. This is not a Michael Jackson fan site, so please take that kind of talk elsewhere. Remember, you are solely responsible for what you post, not us, and we will not protect you from law enforcement. For more information, check out Title V of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Also, please try not to post anything boring. That is probably the most flagrant violation of our rules and principles. Violators will be denied access at the sole discretion of F2.

Yes godlikeproductions is moderated but very few from the couple of years I've been there I've maybe seen one person banned and never have seen threads pulled or mods do much of anything except pull illegal stuff. Other than that, people pretty much what they want to.
