I think we're missing the dichotomy here.

I'll go back to the word "illiterate'. (there are many others we could use)
If someone's writing looks like it was produced by a 5 year old dyslexic with his elbow, it is appropriate to use this word in a corporate planning meeting, a faculty meeting, a parent-teacher conference or even church.

Here on a kink site, we can talk about nailing tits to a pine board. We can talk about crushing testicles. We can talk about beating a bound person till they bleed. We can talk about shoving your fist up someone's ass to the elbow. We can talk about taking a knife and carving your initials into someone's skin. We can talk about how many hundred needles we shoved into a bound person's skin. We can talk about cruelties that would Tourquemada and DeSade proud.

But we can't call someone who can't read or write "illiterate"

What about "you can't read very well"?

Why use several words when one will do?

It's a word that is appropriate for use in a parent-teacher conference, corporate board room or church.

But not this forum, which you knew before you said it.

BTW:
"You are illiterate"= 3 words.
"You can't read very well"=5 words

I do not think requiring those two extra words is expecting too much of you. You look awfully silly protesting about this.

No, I didn't know before I said it. Nice try.
Actually, illiterate means can't read OR WRITE very well.

Why use 5 words to get close to my meaning when one concise one will do?
Is the next TOS 'interpretation' going to be "Thou shalt use no words of more than 2 syllables or above third grade level"?
I also used the word as an example. Please note "(there are many others we could use)".

Actually, a lot was acceptable on this forum in the past that is not acceptable now. Have the TOS changed? No
There can therefore be 2 possibilities. Either the TOS is not being followed or it was not being followed.

You totally missed my point of the post though.
My point is that "words that can be used in exactly the same context in a kindergarten parent-teacher conference or church cannot be used on a kink site." Can you see how that is ludicrous?

We're losing good posters who have been here for years.

WHY?

What has changed?

No, it means there was a change in policy because administration changed their minds about what the TOS really meant. We're not talking about the 10 Commandments here. They are allowed to change their minds. Unless posters are being moderated by different interpretations of the rules contemporaneously, I don't see what's unfair about that.

You totally missed my point of the post though.

No, and frankly I don't believe that calling someone "illiterate" would be considered appropriate at church or a parent teacher conference. But assuming it was, I would recommend to them the use of those two extra words.

We're losing good posters who have been here for years.

That's been true, always.

WHY?

What has changed?

Perhaps the face of BDSM, or at least, of this site. Maybe that requires a kinder, gentler forum environment.

Kinder and gentler or kindergarten?
As for illiterate at church or a P/t conference. Yes, the word has been used.

"Ol Ben is illiterate...ain't it nice how the preacher goes and reads the Bible to him?"

"Maam, you have to understand. The state board of education will not allow a person who is illiterate to recieve a diploma. I understand that he has a scholarship offer from Ohio State but that is the rule. We need some remedial work badly"

Ok, I'm confused. Why is the word illiterate forbidden? I've seen ranting diatribes on here that were full of actual profanity and highly insulting to one person or another and those were ok. But saying that someone's writing makes them appear illiterate is enough to get a post pulled? Seems odd to me.

I'd say "pathetic" rather than "odd" myself, but that's probably a naughty word you can't use under the TOS just like "illiterate"...

SIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHS.

Have you ever read TOS? I have. TOS, the 3 links included and the writings of Mods 1 and 2.

My entire point is that it is NOT in there.

The rule against it is MADE UP.

Keep moving the goal posts.

Just because someone in power says "That is a violation" does not mean it IS a violation.
The written rules say whether or not it is a violation.

Perhaps you could just start using, "the illiterati."

While I entirely agree with you & have empiricle evidence to back up your theory...think the paddle alpha will ultimatly end up spanking you with is "because I said so & stop using logical fact based thought above your pay grade" (especially on those that don't get it & probably never will) bless their heart!!
