Here is a good rule of thumb. Any statement that is made that is a “you” statement, that is derogatory in nature, is not going to be allowed.

President Abraham Lincoln was the most stupid president that existed in history because he believed the sky was blue. I’m surprised that he was able to put his pants on correctly in the morning with out help…..ACCEPTABLE.,

I can only cover a little bit about the grey area that seems to confuse people, because it is on a case by case basis and is based in large part on INTENT,

If you are talking about an idea, etc. no matter whether, right, left, middle, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Tea Party, and whatever all the other terms, it is acceptable.

To say because YOU are any one of the above YOU are “derogatory comment” is not acceptable.

It is really hard to make a personal attack without using the term you.It’s not the only way to do it, and possible other ways, but is almost certain if it is used, and is derogatory in any manner. If in doubt, honestly, you can email a Collarme Team moderator and ask them if a particular statement would be viewed as a personal attack, and get an answer. My advice would be to carefully analyze any statement you are preparing to make that has the term “you” in it before clicking send. If you don’t, please don’t be surprised if you get a post pulled, and a note from one of us.

Let's say that a certain person that you are having a debate/argument with is an asshole. The real truth of the matter is that the guy REALLY IS an asshole. You tell him the truth about him being an asshole.

But, let's say the deal is that the site doesn't allow name calling. "Asshole" would fall into that category.

So, even though it is the truth that the guy is an asshole, you really can't call him that because calling somebody an asshole is a personal attack.

I'm sure you didn't call the guy an asshole, Hill. I'm just saying I could see that line of thinking from the part provided.

As to the other part where there are suggestions from Mods to contact Alpha when we don't agree with the Mod who sends a gold note, maybe there can be some constructive suggestions. I know Alpha said she hoped to be around more on another thread. That might help to improve the links of communication.

I didn't call anyone an asshole.

"Asshole" is not quantifiable.

"Ignorant" is defined by webster as "lacking information"
A falsehood told deliberately is a "Lie" as defined by Webster

These are quantifiable just as 5'2 3/4" is for height and 165.25# is for weight and 454.75 degrees Kelvin is for temperature.

If I talk to someone who says the sky is blue because of fairy dust, that is quantifiable ignorance. They lack information. TRUTH, not attacks.
If a male is 5'1 1/4, he is short.
If a person weight 456.32#, they are fat

These are all verifiable facts. They are not attacks.

A deliberately told falsehood is a lie.

If someone repeatedly can be empirically shown to deliberately falsify data on a repeated basis, they are a liar as they habitually do so. Empirical proof acceptable in court.

This is not an attack. This is simply like telling a 5'1 guy he is short.

Hill, the above was an example. That's why I even put in that part about how I was sure you hadn't called anyone an asshole. It was a word that I would have to think we aren't allowed to call each other around here, so I thought it would make for a good case in the logic I was using.

No, asshole is not quantifiable. It's an opinion. Had you expressed that particular opinion on a thread, I could see why a Mod would have to pull a "you're an asshole" comment, even if they personally agreed with you about the guy being an asshole. They'd still have to pull the comment and send the gold mail because calling the guy one is against guidelines, whether it's true or not.

Maybe, in a roundabout way, the Mod who sent that was saying they didn't necessarily disagree with your statement, but they couldn't leave the post up.

There is no revenge in mind. There is only the thought that if the Mods act like grownups, we can avoid another exodus from CM.

I like this place. I don't want to see it die because of a few people who want to act like hall monitors gone bad.
