AngelicPuzzle -> Random Acts of Kindness.....What do you do??? (6/18/2006 6:22:03 PM)

Going with the "ALL THANKS GO HERE!" thread that Daddysredhead started - I thought I'd start a Random Acts o Kindness one.

What is the nicest or oddest random act of kindness or goodwill that you have done??

One of my friends car broke down, so I picked him up and took him home for the last two weeks.

Edited to add....to work, that is...

I was getting on the turnpike when I remebered the suggestion to brighten someones day by paying the toll of the car behind you, I decided to do this but there was no one at the tollbooth so I got on for free woohooo!!!

I felt I had made an agreement and wanted to follow thru on it so on the way back I paid the toll for the three cars behind me and gave the toll booth collector an extra quarter to hand the person as well.

he was an older gentleman and this really brightened his day and he couldn't thank me enough - he only asked if instead of the next three cars he could give it those with kids - I happily agreed and I went on my way with many good wishes from him and a glow in my heart that I made a little differance and brighteneed someone's day :) including my own :)

I leave coupons I'm not going to use under the product they go with for others.  I hold doors open, even for men.  I bought a bag of frozen peas for my boss last week, as he's having some shoulder problems and keeping ice on the area makes it feel better.  We don't have ice at work.  Frozen peas are a good substitute.  All kinds of stuff, I don't think about it.

Quivver -> RE: Random Acts of Kindness.....What do you do??? (6/19/2006 3:22:08 AM)

While a friend was at work I mucked all her stalls.

LOL Q........ this sounds a lot kinkier than I think it may be [:-].

Random acts of kindness..... have bit me on the ass the last couple of times I've done them. Two examples: I was sitting in the parking lot of a store on a Sunday morning.... a car pulled up, and a young girl asked me if I knew of any veterinarians (sp?). I asked what was wrong, and she opened the door of her car, and showed me a puppy in a box, shit and blood everywhere. I got on the phone and called every place I knew, found one about 25 miles away. So I ended up giving them most of the money I had to go bring the dog to get help.

The next day, I called the vet's office, to find no trace of anyone fitting their description ever showing up.

2nd example: I have a co-worker that is air-headedness personified. She is, and has been, in danger of losing her job due to one type of screw up in particular. She's also a nice person, and is in the process of getting a divorce, so she really couldn't handle being axed at the present time. Anyway, I came across another case of her letting another one of these particular mistakes get by her... instead of pointing it out to our employer (who is verrrrrry specific in that she expects that to happen), I fixed it for her and said nothing to anyone.

Less than a month later, she found the same type of mistake, done by me.... she immediately went and showed El Bosso. I fucked up, and take responsibility for it, but it did gall me quite a bit.

sabswife -> RE: Random Acts of Kindness.....What do you do??? (6/19/2006 4:01:00 AM)

i like doing this kind of thing,  i will often do things such as bake an extra coffee cake and send it over to the neighbours house with one of the kids.  its been a while since ive done this though, just motivates me to do it again this week.  yesterday i came across a pack of diapers i have here -- my son is potty trained but well anyone with small kids knows they are handy to keep on hand for when they are sick.. if you know what i mean.  but-- i know the family next to me is tight on cash, so i sent my little boy over to leave it on their doorstep.

the ultimate in random  kindness for me has been once in a restaurant a neighbouring table paid for my whole meal (5 people) and instructed her not to tell us he was doing it until he had already left.  i look forward to passing this one on some day :)

Sucks to be nice sometimes, doesn't it?  I'd have to think twice about covering her ass for her again.
