Status: offline 		Let's all imagine a world now with no image of any kind being displayed to help protect those with phobias from being confronted by their fears. Then there are the people with a fear of the written word, so let's take away any print too. Well, let's address the noise phobia, now any talking or driving or playing music is outlawed to protect those who would die from hearing things. Can't leave out the ones who have panic attacks from seeing sunlight....sunlight should be outlawed. No more animals, good God they're just a mass of phobic material. No plants, yikes. Someone might be afraid of trees and flowers. Insects? Banish the thought.

All that is left is our homes with a perfectly encapsulated world of our making.

What kind of life is that?

Watching out and protecting everyone in the world took away anything of value to the rest of the population. The person with the problem doesn't carry all the rights, the others have rights too. Personal responsibility should be the order of the day. An interesting concept isn't it?

Look at the name of the thread.

Then read my original post.

I told what I did, why I did it, and how the situation was resolved.

I have been under constant attack since that post as I have tried to explain the rationale, regardless of whether I was right or wrong to report the picture.

I have been comporting myself with great reserve and decorum in the face of insults, threats, and outright hostility.

Again, I am not the only person out there who is an arachnophobic. It is a common phobia, usually resulting in violent fight or flight reactions.

Rest assured, I will probably NOT post here again, as it is apparent that adult rational debate cannot occur.


Many people I've met in real life have BIRD phobias and freak out when birds fly nearby or overhead.

Others I have met have RODENT phobias. I see several people here on the forums with cute ratty and mouse pics. A great way to clear out a bank (complete with screams) was when Ms. Bigglesworth, My hairless and very wrinkled ratty, suddenly peeked out from under My long hair. Yes, she was always harnessed & leashed, and yes they allow pets (she always loved the dog biscuit the clerk would give her and was awesome with small children who wanted to hold her).

If you are afraid of spiders, don't venture near My house, it's CR-R-R-RAWLING with spiders...and every so often a SNAKE wanders in. Yep, good place to work on conquering phobias, that's for sure.

My point, if you are trying to escape your phobia, AVOIDING it isn't the answer

As fun as that would be for you, it would force me off this thread. This would, in effect, censor me in precisely the same way some are thinking that I am arguing others should be censored. To be fair, for as many people who have arachnophobia, there are people who like me who love exotic animals, including spiders, and who have/had tarantulas for pets. People with a spider or arachnid as an avatar may clue me in on a common interest, allowing me to connect with them. Someone who posts a picture of what I consider a gorgeous spider may motivate me to write them privately and say "That's an incredible shot, where did you find it?" and if they have a common appreciation for exotics, we may make a connection.

Your phobia of the animal causing others to not be allowed to post it could limit others ability to connect or share about it. The greater majority who see it either don't care/just say "gross" and move on or whatnot; but by suggesting that people NOT be allowed to post images of spider in their avatar here or in posts you could be limiting my - other other fans of spiders - ability to find common friends.

I would appreciate if you would respond to me to acknowledge your change. If you don't, then you will leave me no choice than to report you to the higher authorities (aka my block feature).

And for everyone else. What would we do without spiders? They get rid of all the bad bugs. I never minded spiders because they would always get rid of the flies, bees and wasps that were all over at my former home.

Hey, this could be my first EVER report! Sorry mods, but but, I know your email is already full of hundreds of reports but mine is special! It really is. I'm just trying to save everyone else who might have a stroke if they are deathly afraid of gryphons. How sad is that? We can't let all the poor phobia people including me, to be hit in the face with such vulgar names!
