I think there would be a difference between calling the cops over something illegal/violent and reporting a post for violating the Terms of Service. Violating TOS is not a crime; you can't get arrested for that.

I suspect Awareness might believe calling the cops was beneath him if it really were a question of violence or threat, and so his stance against reporting posts here for being mean (by comparison, a far lesser "crime") is consistent with his ideas of right and wrong. You may disagree with that stance, but the position does make sense.

Sure, I can understand the rationale, and in many many cases it really does make sense. My point is that there are times when it doesn't.

I would think a forum like this is more analogous to walking into a store, restaurant, club, or any other privately-owned establishment. The owners or management can make their own rules and enforce them, as some places might have signs which read "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone."

And I think these "accept the status quo or leave" arguments are analogous to telling Rosa Parks to leave or sit at the back of the free public library and have to await days for approval to check out books.

Pam

Again... despite my irritation at the level of (what is in my subjective opinion utterly pointless) whining, I can't disagree that there are issues, points of conscience or honour, or situations where speaking out is absolutely the right thing to do.

But with a site like this it's not a binary "accept the status quo, or leave" situation. There is a middle way.

You can accept the status quo (either because you've elected just to shut up, or because you don't have a problem)
You can engage in a positive way to bring about the change that you think is needed.
Or you can leave....

It is also just a little bit rich when people (and I'm not accusing you of this by any means) liken themselves to Rosa Parks who was taking a stand against racism when they're just pissed off with the decision that the owner of a website (or one of his / her agents) made about one of their posts.

Now would be a good time to take stock of where the conversation is going and is it worth carrying it further. Points have been made and countered and further argument will only result in negative discourse. Everyone involved knows the others opinion, which they have shown they will not agree with. It should now be left to others to decide who is right or wrong then move on rather than continue useless argument.

Um...I haven't finished my morning coffee yet. Ten more minutes, then we can be done.

With a few notable exceptions, I've seen very little "engaging in a positive way" here.

Oh, the result of the work example I gave a few pages back is that I am now the Project Manager :)
Although I think the Marketing Manager is a twit, I framed it as "wouldn't it be better if she could focus on Marketing rather than chase Production tasks around" rather than "she sucks, give it to me."

Uh, forgive me for asking, but what is considered positive is reporting someone isnt?

kalikshama -> RE: Lets be honest have you ever reported anyone (1/16/2013 5:45:47 AM)

I don't see reporting as negative. Reporting takes so little effort I don't really see it as engaging either. It's like picking up litter rather than planting a garden.

I was referring to the poster you quoted, but you are right.

I am also getting tired of the "What is wrong with Collarme."

VAA admitted that there are compromises they are considering, so what more do people want?

That's an awfully good point.

Hello.

I'm really sorry, but I've no idea what your question means.

As long as they put it in writing so everyone is on the same page and the days of "Calvinball" end, I'm for it.

Still bucking for that TOS that covers everything, huh.

Well actually, I thought "fuck you" was really more out and out aggressive.

Nothing weak about reporting, when needed. There have been major issues of trolling on some great threads. When people are trying to learn, it's kinda rude and childish to toll. To me, if we all were in or at a BDSM class and some jerk started spouting off some bullshit (and I say bullshit bc that is what it was. It wasn't a healthy disagreement, it was a temper tantrum) the people actually attempting to learn would be pissed. That's how I tend to view things here, I certainly can learn a lot from people, and have.

In this particular forum, the only thing we can do when this happens is either report or hide, or both. Nothing

Not only would others present be pissed but a DM or club manager with a grain of salt would kick them out.

PERIOD.

in real life adults in the class would tell them to shut up, and not be penalised for doing so.

taking what level wrote i don't seem to be reading it the same way as everyone else.

needles

I meant that it isnt weak to speak or act AGAINST rules, guidelines, or laws, if your conscience compels you to. I think you may be the one that got it.

yep Level that's what i thought you meant [:D]

ShaharThorne -> RE: Lets be honest have you ever reported anyone (1/16/2013 7:46:08 AM)

I reported a couple on this side before hiding them and a few penile shots on the other side. No big deal.
