Thank you....

quote:

Section 2 of the bill creates a new Article 17 of the Public Health
Law (PHL), which establishes in statute affirmative reproductive
rights, specifically: (1) the fundamental right of every individual
to choose or refuse contraception, and (2) the fundamental right of
every female to determine the course of her pregnancy. Section 2 of
the bill further states that an abortion may be performed by a
qualified practitioner in the absence of fetal viability and at any
time when necessary to protects a female's life or health.

Qualified practitioner.. negates the belief that a case worker can perform one.

quote:

Section 2 of the bill also provides that the senate shall not deny,
regulate or restrict these fundamental tights, except by law,
regulation or policy that is narrowly tailored to serve a compelling
State interest or by a generally applicable law or regulation
governing matters such as practitioner licensing, pharmaceuticals and
medical devices, and medical procedures.

quote:

Section 2 additionally prohibits the State from discriminating against
the exercise of reproductive rights in the provision of benefits,
facilities, services, or information. Section 2 of the bill also
states that nothing contained in the new PHL Article 17 alters any
existing protections under state or federal law or regulation that
permit a health care provider to refrain from providing abortions due
to the provider's religious or moral belief.

So if the Doctor has a moral objection, he doesnt have to provide one.

quote:

Section 2 of the bill further sets forth certain definitions. In
particular, the bill defines fetal viability as the point in
pregnancy when, as determined by a physician or other qualified
practitioners acting in good faith in accordance with generally
accepted medical standards: (1) the gestational age of the fetus,
measured from the first day of the woman's last menstrual period, is
at least 24 weeks
, and (2) there is a reasonable likelihood of the
fetus sustained survival outside the uterus without application of
extraordinary medical measures.

Funny, I could have sworn they were saying he wants to expand this past 24 weeks.. doesnt look like that is the case.

Again, how do the changes to New York Law, involve you paying for anything.

If you're subsidizing abortions, than everyone is supporting Catholic Child Rape, since they pay no taxes, and that money is used to rape children, right?

Ah. Your usual way of arguing. Consider yourself to have won, since I'm not going to answer your Catholic hating rants.

Mississippi is well on its way to closing its only abortion clinic.

And why do you think YOU are paying?

And yet, Mississippi still has one. And if Mississippi wants a clinic they can have one, and if they don't, they don't have to. Why are we talking about this like there's no alternative to abortion?

What happens if you live on the other side of the state and can't afford to get there? It's not if MISSISSIPPI wants one, you see. Your issue is that you don't accept that it is EVERY WOMAN'S OPTION, and it's not for anyone to get in her way.

Think of it this way, do you want The Government taking away your choice of a 30 round magazine?

mnottertail -> RE: Cuomo doubles down on pissing off the Right Wing... (1/22/2013 7:41:36 AM)

Well, the thing is, in a majority minority scenario, there are some who's taxes go into things they don't (as the minority) care for.  I pay for toys for the military, inept generals, inept teabaggers in the house, the war in Iraq, the national arboretums azealea collection and so on...........

So, nobody really gives a fuck about that sort of useless argument.

There are alternatives to everything in life... including an alternative to living.

You're the one pretending that the money which BY LAW cannot be used for abortions, is in some magical way, used for abortions.

SO, I simply point out the intellectual invalidity of that argument, and of course, when presented with clear evidence of your failure to properly understand the topic, you claim that I'm hating catholics or something.

I don't consider myself to have won because you bailed.

I won because I won.

And then there's the people who immediately go to "teabaggers" instead of being civil. So, in that case, also consider yourself to have won against my argument, as I can't answer someone who has already called me an unpleasant name.

The Declaration of Independence enshrines three basic rights: the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The right to life is the only fundamental right, from which all other rights are derived. Abortion not only flies in the face of the only fundamental right but currently takes away the only fundamental right from an average of 3,300 each and every day. The extremists are abortion proponents.

The Declaration of Independence may say Life is a Right but statistics say being born requires an extreme amount of luck. Please, let's stop pretending that every implant is a human entitled to Life. Nature doesn't work the way your church tells you She does.

Sadly, miscarriages are a very common occurrence. Sources vary, but many estimate that approximately 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage; and some estimates are as high as 1 in 3. If you include loss that occurs before a positive pregnancy test, some estimate that 40% of all conceptions result in loss.

Tazzy, I'm sorry, never mind. I'm leaving the room. It's unpleasant in here.

farglebargle -> RE: Cuomo doubles down on pissing off the Right Wing... (1/22/2013 7:46:36 AM)

The "Right to Life" in the declaration of independence simply means that the GOVERNMENT can't execute you without due process. The Declaration of Independence has no meaning in the context of private property rights of an individual with respect to their creations.

Although there is something to be said for considering that the FETUS is endowed with certain inalienable rights by THEIR MOTHER...

Ok, I'll address you one more time. There is no need to retract. Abortions are paid for by way of Medicaid (medical assistance is what it's called here). My tax dollars go to medical assistance by way of the state. Federal dollars that go to "family planning" (a misleading term if there ever was) are used not directly for abortion, but they replace dollars spent elsewhere in the same building. They don't separate the abortion cotton swabs from the ear wax cotton swabs.

And now, I will let those of you who care to self congratulate over having chased out someone who thinks adoption is better than abortion have the room.

I have not called you an unpleasant name, and I am being civil.   I do not and did not solicit some answer from you, in the case of being dealt a fait accompli.  It is unanswerable.  I have pointed out that it is useless argumentation, and you may find yourself at some discomfiture upon my disagreement with the realities that present themselves from your forwarding such an invalid argument.

I expect you may be butthurt twice now, but I never called you a name nor was I ever uncivil.

Part of life is making choices.. decisions... in the "Pursuit of Happiness".

We, as humans, are sexual creatures. Denying that part of us is just a silly mistaken belief that we should somehow rise above all desires to attain some moral high ground.

Everyone has the right to live... or to die. A woman who is pregnant has the decision, by federal law, to remain pregnant or to not, up until the age of viability. A huge marker in my opinion. After that point, the fetus' has rights as well, provided that fetus' rights do not conflict with the right of the mother's to stay alive.

A woman can choose to risk her own life to attempt to carry that fetus to term. That is her legal right, as well as it being her legal right, after the viability age, to protect her own life and choose not to risk it.

If we got rid of the legal right to abortion today... outlawed it if you will... they wouldnt stop. We would be risking more lives for doing something we all enjoy doing... having sex.

farglebargle -> RE: Cuomo doubles down on pissing off the Right Wing... (1/22/2013 7:55:44 AM)

Sorry, but you can't suggest adoption as a solution until you've adopted. You *have* adopted children living with you currently right?

Of course, you can't tell other people what to do with THEIR BODIES either. But you do, don't you?

Oh, and the Hyde Amendment isn't restrictive enough for you? That says all we need to know about you, really, doesn't it?

By that logic, the faith based initiatives are subsidizing religion.

We were assured that wasn't true by the same party that is claiming that funding PP is paying for abortion.

Can you see the political hypocrisy?

Hyde Amendment makes that illegal for federal funds to pay for abortions. If the state decides to pay for them, then you are opposed to the state making decisions for its occupants?

To me, its a cost saving measure. Im sure for some, its a moral outrage. But allowing a few people's morals to dictate what they many may or may not do, will never work.

Well that does make me feel better. Now was this the actual wording of the bill? I ask because the article quote was different in the wording.
