While current law states that only a “duly licensed physician” may perform an abortion, this bill would allow any “licensed health care practitioner” to perform the procedure prior to viability. This dangerous and extreme change clearly puts women’s health at risk, and mirrors a national abortion strategy to permit non-doctors to perform abortions due to the declining number of physicians willing to do so.

Oh goody. Now doesn't THAT sound insane.

This means that a social worker or your CT tech could give you an abortion. Sign up for food stamps, an MRI on your knee and a D&C all in the same day at the same visit. Progress is great!

The depth of your ignorance on reality never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think you cant get anymore ignorant, you prove yet again at beating the odds!

A "...social worker or your CT tech..." is NOT a licensed health care practitioner, which you cited. How about you STUDY the concept before displaying your ignorance for all to see! So the abortion would be carried out by someone that would have had reasonable background, study, not to mention 'hands on experience' in performing the task. Whether they agree with 'Roe vs Wade' or not, ALL medical doctors (including health care practitioners) in the USA are trained in how to perform an abortion....SAEFLY. They have to know how to do such a think if needed to during some sort of an emergency.

Social workers ARE licensed health care practitioners. Medical imaging techs may or may not be, depending on the state.

I will note, that you are the one that looks like an idiot since Tazzy and I have already commented on and discussed this.

Also, no not ALL doctors are trained to do abortions. http://www.aclupa.org/education/clarabellduvallreproductiv/duvallprojectresourcespubl/shortageofphysicians.htm

Why do liberals all make it sound like pregnancy is something that simply happens out of thin air, and that the man and woman have absolutely NO control over it (unless someone else pays for it), has no idea how it happened, so now are entitled to kill it (which they also want someone else to pay for)?

Actually, many liberals know how the concept works. Given the knowledge base at current in the medical community (most of those medical doctors ARE Liberals), it would be known that the usual process for creating off-spring is through a male and female, but not limited to just that. What amazes me is the depth of conservatives to not be able to consider the circumstances that might find the couple in such a perplexing place to be begin with. Most couples are not model examples like the Beavers from the 1950's tv show. Abortion is never something one does on a whim. Anyone that does should really have their head examined by a psychologist. Even a medical doctor would know enough to explain to someone considering the operation of the conditions and problems. But then, a medical doctor would be much better suited to understrand the possible health problems in having a child based on the mother to be's current health.

When you slam liberals, you forget that much of the scientific community. to which medical science is apart of, holds to many liberal concepts and ideas. Perhaps you should look up the definition of the words Liberal and Conservative. The first is more likely to give you options beyond abortion. The second is less likely to give any options altogether.

Other than a chromosome from a male and one from a female. . . what other option is there? Cloning?

And. . . umm. . . medical doctor? So, you do not like the idea of Nurse Practitioners or MidWives performing abortions?

I will also note that Republicans, Democrats. Conservatives, and Liberals are all offshoots of classical liberals.

Thanks Tazzy.

And it is true that with some of the stuff that has come out of New York, it would not completely surprise me that an x-ray tech would suddenly be allowed to perform abortions. LOL (Look at the prescription pain killer rules now going into force in NYC. We just HAD a three day weekend. If you got hurt Friday morning, say a broken foot, you would go to the ER becayse your doc cannot fit you in, then you would have at least 1 full day with no painkillers before you could get an appointment for more. {enough for Friday, Saturday, and Sinday. . . but Monday is a holiday, so you will just have to suffer a bit.})

Bulldroppings! Social workers do NOT have the same skill and educational backgrounds that a licensed health care practitioner would hold. They are two very different job concepts even though they belong under the industry of 'Healthcare'. How many social workers hold a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)? Be sure to provide the source your citing.

Social workers can vary, but generally hold a master's degree worth of education. In exact terms, they are required to hold a Masters of Social Work (MSW). I'm sure even you could tell the difference between a MSW and a MD. SOURCE

They are both needed in our society and country to help a very wide range of problems and situations. However, social workers do not usually possess the sort of knowledge a medical doctor would on a number of issues. Is it possible for anyone to know this specific knowledge? Of course. I believe the social worker will tell you that they are not the right people to consult on the numerous problems and effects of such an operation can have on the human body. Nor are they the ones to handle such an operation even under emergency conditions.

In the end its your body, and you'll have to live with the decisions you make on it.

I have Mass Health. If I broke my foot on a friday evening and went to the ER, they could take care of the issue right there. Massachusett's ER doctors are not the type to allow someone to suffer if a solution exists in the present. In addition, I can contact my doctor directly if I needed to and he would handle the matter quickly. Because he is an exception human being. Very nice, considerate, knowledable, wise and most of all, compassionate. He wouldnt let me suffer if it was within his power.

Licensed health care practitioner in the context of health care means an individual other than a physician who is licensed or otherwise authorized by the state to provide health care services. It also includes individuals who, without authority holds himself/herself out to be so licensed or authorized, any registered professional nurse, licensed social worker, or other individual who meets the requirements as may be prescribed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

licensed health professional,
n an individual who has successfully completed a prescribed program of study in a variety of health fields and who has obtained a license or certificate indicating his or her competence to practice in that field.

Sorry, but you can't suggest adoption as a solution until you've adopted.

Sorry but you can't comment on social issues until you prove to us that you have a conscience

(I grew up with two adopted siblings. I didn't adopt children of my own because I fathered some and made sure that my behavior could be paid for by my hard work. I never wanted to adopt three more children and go on public assistance. I would have LOVED a larger family but I allowed fiscal responsibility to rule the day. Do any PPLs know the term "Fiscal responsibility"? For that matter, do they know the term: "moral compass"?)

Peace and comfort,

Michael

P.S.;

Yachtie thank you for re-posting this bit of clap-trap from the Lunatic Left

So, in other words, your 'solution' to the 'problem' of women getting abortions is for OTHER PEOPLE TO SOLVE IT by adopting the babies, after perhaps forcing the mothers to bear them to term against their will.

Gotcha.

Thanks.

Ummm . . . and how does having insurance in Massachusetts effect laws for NYC hospital ER doctors and how many pain pills they can prescribe?

By the way, "suffer a little" because you cannot get your needed pain pills was Bloomberg's (who is apparently qualified to make medical decisions for all) words. Just so you know.

Not much of a solution. The "man" doesnt have a clue what he talks about.

Thats the number of children in the US foster care system waiting for adoption.

Lets just add a few million more to that number, shall we? [8|]

I will say that part of the problem is our adoption laws. This is why people like David Weber are going to other countries to adopt.

I just have to ask. Do you honestly believe that everyone on the left thinks abortions are ok? My guess is he pissed off a shit load of liberals as well.

As to the article. If who ever is performing the abortion has been properly trained and licensed I don't see the problem.

hlen5 -> RE: Cuomo doubles down on pissing off the Right Wing... (1/24/2013 8:35:38 AM)

If anyone is interested in pissing off the left wing, refer them to NPR's Fresh Air program of 22 January.

http://www.npr.org/programs/fresh-air/

Texas rejected a 10 to 1 federal dollar match for health care because they wanted to starve Planned Parenthood of funds. The state health agency is working on their 2014 budget. They are estimating 24,000 unintended pregnancies to care for as a result of closing clinics and removing healthcare from the poor.
