"You'd actually believe such crap? Kirata, the man who's all about manipulating truth & fact, finds some left-field quote and you muppets treat it as gospel??? Or is it "patriotic logic" - 'cause I have this signature line.... Mate, you're answering a lot of questions no-one's asked - yet."

Don't blame Kirata over the facts he and I posted about,I started a thread on this same subject in another forum on here before Kirata had even mentioned it.The article I quoted used information from an Australian newpaper, the Daily Telegraph. If the info is wrong, maybe you need to write them and correct them, not us.[And remember,it was you who asked who the nanny state was..I answered the question Mr. no one asked]

"Ten times higher casualties than Oz's? You've got 15 times our population...! "

Did you qualify your earlier statement of "Our blokes did just as much bleeding and dying as yours or anyone else's .." ? Sure you did...only 10 times less.I have seen you time and again throwing out the figure of 30,000 deaths by gun in the U.S. even after several have pointed out that 2/3's of those are suicides. So do you really think someone that is going to commit suicide is going to not kill themselves if they don't have a gun?

What I posted had absolutely nothing to do with the point you were making. I saw you sign off as "Asswipe," and it hit me you had likely misinterpreted what he had said. It took me a few rounds, but I finally did figure out that mnottertail wasn't calling people asswipes. I was just wanting to point that out. That's all.

Huh? You were making a point of order - I got that...! Yes, I misread - thought Hw put a comma before "asswipe". But no, it didn't affect the point I made in reply to Hillwilliam.
If mnottertail was (or wasn't) calling peeps "asswipes" too, I missed it. As I now ponder how I'd even know what Ron or anyone else wasn't calling someone....
I hate you! ;)

If you see me say asswipe (and I dont know why I am clearing this up again) it is that I prefer it to bullshit.  Your idea is bullshit, your idea is asswipe.   If I was gonna go off the hook and call someone here a shiteating toiletlicker, or whatever ad hominem I had cooked up, I would do that outright, it aint the first time I have been moderated, in fact, I believe only Huntie has been moderated more than me.  Next I would say either Rich or Firm, and then distantly Sanity.

It aint no new trick to me, if I am gonna tell you that you are a fuckin asshole, I have absolutely, positively, unquestionably, and without let or hindrance any sort of anti-compunction I have to deal with, I am a big boy, and if I do it, I will take the hit.

All you all do likewise.

You were comparing American medicine with Australian medicine attempting to prove Americas were superior, my example show American medical practices are also faulty.

This is the first explanation I've seen, but that's probably just due to my not being here for more than a year. It took me a few instances to notice you weren't being mod-ed and to figure out that it wasn't the person you were referring to.

Thank you for acknowledging that my posts have been truthful and factual. And may I also say that I am enjoying watching your descent into personal attacks and name calling. Nothing better illustrates how much Americans have to learn before they can call themselves civilized.

Don't s'pose any of you actually has an original thought on topic that doesn't rely on leeching off the opinions of others?

Got any basis for that asswipe?

This very post, actually - pretty much perpetuates all your other "contributions" here.

Whoa, there it is, again..... Anyway, exactly where did I acknowledge your "posts have been truthful and factual"? Cos this time, you neglected to delete "manipulating" from your quote, first.

Kate Ellis is a Federal Gov polly and Minister. She's also developing a rep for being a "human headline" amongst those who actually live here and vote. Likes a sound byte.... You don't have those in the US? Or should I assume everything I read in the paper about the US is ironclad law?

Did you qualify your earlier statement of "Our blokes did just as much bleeding and dying as yours or anyone else's .." ? Sure you did...only 10 times less.I have seen you time and again throwing out the figure of 30,000 deaths by gun in the U.S. even after several have pointed out that 2/3's of those are suicides. So do you really think someone that is going to commit suicide is going to not kill themselves if they don't have a gun?

You've seen *me* "throwing out the figure of 30,000 deaths by gun in the U.S."? Just me?

I recall it was Kirata also posting figures that didn't include suicide by gun as being a gun death. What do you suppose they actually did die from? Don't think he counted accidental gun deaths, either.... Thing is, that's how overall figures are compiled for every country - the *cause* of death, not the motivation behind them.

Anyway (from a link, in another thread, in another month....), there were some 231 gun deaths in Australia in 2010 (pop 23 mill), of which 160ish were suicides. Near enough to your 2/3rds ratio, too.... Only about 16 deaths were part of a criminal activity. Anyways, pick a number and multiply it by 15 (US population) and come back and tell us how well your figures stack up in comparison and that you don't have a problem with gun culture there.

I'll get the ball rolling.... 15 times 160 Oz suicides is 2400. Is 2400 ballpark to 2/3rds of 30,000?

Don't blow it; this is the closest you've been to on-topic in the entire thread...!

Focus.

Public opinion polls show that Americans overwhelming support background checks. The majority of Americans support high magazine and assault weapons bans. If the Republicans back the fringe right again, it won't help them in the next national election.

Its sad that the NRA's only proposal to increase public safety is a further arming of the population.

I read recently that something over 24% of Americans support an outright ban. I'm wondering if trying to marginalise those outright-banners by repeatedly terming them 'extremists' is going to work for much longer given that this is nearly a quarter of the population. There's roughly a similar percentage of anti-monarchists here in the UK - few call us 'extremists', though.
