Asswipe.

Just a point of order, Focus, the use of "asswipe" is not generally aimed at a person, but at the post. Thus, Hillwilliam was not calling you "asswipe," but calling the content of your post "asswipe."

I'm glad you said that. I assumed it was used in the first way myself. It seemed a bit steep of HW.

Perhaps in an effort to find more common ground we all should explain our respective slang expressions a bit better.

Since the poster I was responding to had previously dragged the thread off on that subject,I responded in kind...

Then lucky for you that poster didn't decide to jump in front of a speeding truck instead, ay!
Luckily I know the difference between responding to another poster and jumping out in front of a truck...do you?

quote:

My thoughts on this subject[guns] have been posted in this and several other threads.

This subject is not "guns". And your "thoughts" were a couple of captioned pics - are they even *your* original pics?
The very first sentense in this thread says "I think the problem between Americans, Australians, and the British on guns is the lack of common ground." and I have repeatedly stated my thoughts on my Second Amendment RIGHTS on several other threads.I haven't jumped you for going out and shooting your neighbors cats,so don't try to tell me how an American should not have a gun...or what I should or should not post unless you are a Mod.

quote:

My main thought on this subject is I am not mettling in your affairs over in Oz,so I can not see why what we do over here matters a hill of beans to you over there.Seems like you have enough to worry about over there instead of trying to tell us how to run our country.

Then why are you even here? Surely you're not some sorta mindless sheep? <gasp> Anyway, cultural differences is precisely what this topic is about. But since you mention it, meddling in the affairs of foreign nations absolutely IS the *American* way - you can only dish it out?

Focus.

I'm here because I value my Second Amendment rights and I am sick of nanny state types trying to impose their views on American laws.If you want to outlaw guns, school kids blowing out candles on a birthday cake because kids might get a germ or any of the other things you want to do in your country, have at it.But don't be upset when we choose to do what we feel is best for our country. And by the way,in the 1900's when the U.S. tried minding our own business we got pulled into fighting in 2 world wars.It seems others can not win a war without our help so if you don't like how we do business, quit pulling us into your turf wars.

Anyway, cultural differences is precisely what this topic is about.

Following that thought, this from Australia:

Australian Kids Face Birthday Candle Ban to Prevent Spreading Germs

Australian children are to be banned from blowing out candles on birthday cakes under new hygiene regulations... But Australian doctors say the guidelines go too far, noting how exposure to bacteria is essential for the development of a healthy immune system.

AMA president Steve Hambleton told News Ltd... “It’s normal and healthy to be exposed to a certain amount of environmental antigens that build up our immune systems. If you live in a plastic bubble you’re going to get infections [later on] that you can’t handle.”

Different topic, same mentality: Ignore the facts, we have to save the children!

Dollars to dirt your links are as selective and contrived as your "quotes".

I'll pass....

What I posted had absolutely nothing to do with the point you were making. I saw you sign off as "Asswipe," and it hit me you had likely misinterpreted what he had said. It took me a few rounds, but I finally did figure out that mnottertail wasn't calling people asswipes. I was just wanting to point that out. That's all.

Where be these "nanny states"?

Oz participated (ie, "got pulled in") in WWI & II, too, without us actually being attacked first. Our blokes did just as much bleeding and dying as yours or anyone else's for what was as close as you'll get to the "right" war (WWII) to fight. If you're advocating the US shoulda declared themselves neutral and sat on their hands, let's hear it.

Meantime, since you're so determined to not know what *this* topic is about; I'm 58 yrs old - got anything from *after* I was born?

Huh? You were making a point of order - I got that...! Yes, I misread - thought Hw put a comma before "asswipe". But no, it didn't affect the point I made in reply to Hillwilliam.

If mnottertail was (or wasn't) calling peeps "asswipes" too, I missed it. As I now ponder how I'd even know what Ron or anyone else wasn't calling someone....

I hate you! ;)

Since you can't be bothered looking at mere links that don't support your views,I will just give you a few hints where one nanny state might be from the same subject Kirata posted about. These come from Australia's Minister for Early Childhood and Child Care, Kate Elliss. Not only are they regulating no blowing out birthday candles on a cake, according to the guide, children are now expected to wash their hands before digging in the sandbox or playing outside, as well as after.Washing your hands AFTER playing outside is santitary and pretty much a given...but washing them before going outside is a bit much in my opinion.

And before you go stating Oz did as much bleeding as we did,the only ally[excluding Russia] that lost more total killed in WW2 then the U.S.was England, but if you only count military deaths the U.S. was higher. The number of U.S. service men were over 10 times higher than Australia's.

And speaking of jumping out in front of a truck...care to guess who else jumped....

Alright, not as many bled as Americans.

But, in their defense, look at the Desert Rats at Tobruk.

Got to give the Anzacs that one.

As I speak, Police in every Australian state are mobilising elite squads to crackdown hard on children's birthday parties....

You'd actually believe such crap? Kirata, the man who's all about manipulating truth & fact, finds some left-field quote and you muppets treat it as gospel??? Or is it "patriotic logic" - 'cause I have this signature line.... Mate, you're answering a lot of questions no-one's asked - yet.

Ten times higher casualties than Oz's? You've got 15 times our population...!

Welcome back, jlf.

Soooo, how do you think your "middle ground" topic is going now that all the drive-by's think this is the place to fruitlessly seek relevance?
