Stupid question? Bear with me. i love to wear satin, and as my profile says i wear satin panties all the time. i also wear stockings or hold ups. When i can i also wear satin outerwear - shirt/blouse trousers etc. The point is i don't do this 'cos i want to look like a woman, i do it becasue i love the feel of the material. In the past i have been put in the position of being made to wear female underwear as part of a scene, and that's fine, but if i have the choice, it's always satin i go for -other materials (eg cotton panties) just don't do it for me. If i wear a dress or skirt (satin of course) it's the way it feels, hangs and moves that i enjoy. not the fact that i might look 'Female'. So, am i a cross dresser, or just someone who enjoys dressing.

The sensuality of clothing is actually a big reason many males today become "cross dressers"

And I think it's completely stupid for cultures to decide who can wear what clothes based on gender.  It's an idea whose time has long passed.

I don't expect it to pass any time soon, but it should.

There are many times throughout history in which men wore just as or MORE sensual fabrics and clothes than the women.  Sadly, the concept of masculinity has evolved to shun anything "fancy" or "sensual" or "soft" in our modern culture.

I know this should go in the embarressing moments thread, but it sorta applies here.  At a time I travelled extensively for business, my sub/wife did also.  She always packed my bags for my business trips.

After flying half way round the world and have my bags checked at customs, I found I had picked up the suitcase she had used and not unpacked from her last trip!!!

And yes, I wore her knickers until I had bought replacements :)

Yes, you are a crossdresser.

Well I still wear my sari in the heat of a Canberra summer.  Its damn practical.  I can accept another having a fetish about a certain material because its pleasurable.  Nothing to date has made this man a crossdresser in my opinion - but maybe he is.  To me it is the motives, and thge motives stated just means he has a satin fetish, nothing more.

GddssBella -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 6:35:38 AM)

G'morning all:

Yes mpt, you are a cross dresser. Anytime anyone, male or female, wears garments normally associated with the other gender, they're considered cross dressers. It's all about society perception, not intention or purpose. You can enjoy the feel of satin all you want, but if you're wearing a dress instead of a shirt/pants, you're cross dressing. There's plenty of sites where you can purchase men's clothing in the more tactile heavenly fabrics.

To play devil's advocate... I do understand why some men choose female garments over the male, even if the fabric selection is available to them. Female cut clothing is generally slimmer, more form fitting. Perhaps the OP enjoys having his satin naughties closer to his skin? *shrugs* Screw the labels, enjoy your harmless fetish.

Brosco, let me query you this. When was the last time you saw Silkies in the men's department of any store? If those same guys want support, there's medical grade hose for them. *chuckles* Got to call a spade a spade.

crouchingtigress -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 6:41:04 AM)

if it walks like a duck...yeah you are...the harder question is....are you ok with that?

Lashra -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 6:41:06 AM)

If it feels good and isn't hurting anybody go for it. My sub just discovered the joy of cross dressing. He loves the feel of a satin thong and thigh hi's lol  Does it bother me? No not in the slightest because I know he is all man beneath those silky undies. It makes him feel hot and frankly he has nice legs that look good in thigh hi's!

So don't worry about the labels just be happy that you discovered somethiing that you like.

G'morning all:

Brosco, you misunderstood entirely. Silkies is a brand of ladies pantyhose. Maybe I should have proposed seeking No Nonsense or Leggs? Better brand recognition? *snickering* By the way, I bet you looked just darling in your wife's dainties. *skips away ~ chuckling*

RSWingman -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 7:00:00 AM)

Someone kinda touched on this, but to paraphrase it:  How come a Tom-boy isn't called a crossdresser?  Because they're called a Tom-boy?  Double-standard?  Still doesn't invoke the same social connotations though.

I don't need labels to explore who I am.  I am me.  Sometimes terminology can be helpful.  But mostly, it's others that need the labels, in order to communicate amongst each-other, what I am.

Much easier to say "He's a crossdresser", than "He's someone who enjoys dressing-up in satin occasionally, but sometimes,..."  Get the picture?  They don't have the vested personal interest in clarifying your position.

There can also be an implication of "habit" and point of view to these labels.  Is someone who lies to save their ass (to no one's detriment) once, a liar?  Is someone who gets busted for public intox, a criminal?  The law says yes, though they may otherwise be a completely law-abiding citizen, with only a single mistake.  Depends on whether you're speaking in terms of a pattern of habit, or just a rare or occasional instance or two.

So for most people, yes, you're a crossdresser.  Or it could be supplementally said, that you have a "satin fetish".  For you, you're whatever you believe you are, and probably have much less need for the labels.

If you went and hung with some crossdressers, one of a few things could happen:  You could discover that you're interested in much more, or possibly feel like you've found your niche, or you might find that you were right-on in your personal inventory, and just feel out of place or "lame" around them.

I'm certain that different people dress to different degrees, at different intervals & frequency and for different reasons.  Maybe you're wondering if there's a group out there for what you percieve to be your "watered-down" version of dressing?  Perhaps some "satin fetishist" group?

But I think I'm "feeling" your conflict:  I hear you reflecting concern for the same kind of crap that one might hear where I live.  I live in redneckville USA.  I don't feel I could possibly get away with most of the alternative lifestyle-related things around here, that I'm interested in, without risking serious bodily injury or death.

Further, I'm fed-up with the local folk around here.  On the other hand, I love the diversity & acceptance that I've discovered in the City, but feel like I would get eaten-alive by the complex system there.  It's too fast; I can't see myself living there.

So what to do?  Sounds like you need a more accepting environment, but I can't help you there, other than to suggest that you go to some lifestyle-related functions, and find the appropriate Yahoogroups (they're out there, where ever you are).  Maybe someone else will be able to run with this.

Oh good god, there's no escape from this!

MHOO314 -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 7:10:34 AM)

Nope, I'd say it was a satin fetish and be done with it--now if you add hose, heels--then things take on a different "texture".

mnottertail -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 7:11:01 AM)

Well, honey.......you can better believe that when I wake up Saturday mornings, I am going to take the 'quick blowjob' and pass on the scrambled eggs with you.

Quick reply to the OP:

Who gives a damn?

Quick reply to everyone else:

I'm sleep deprived, working  a split shift, and bored.  What's your excuse for bickering?

mnottertail -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 7:23:25 AM)

does that make you a cross dog?

gooddogbenji -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 7:27:00 AM)

Hmmmmmm....  do cross dogs wear dresses?  Or eat hot cross buns?  I need to have it defined 6 ways before I can answer.

By the way, each of those definitions will be wrong.

Yours,

benji
