You know, I really don't have a problem with giving the poor a cheap phone for emergencies. What I object to is paying for peoples plans so they can make other calls. 911 works on a cell phone whether you have a plan or not.

Give them a cheap $10 phone that can recieve calls in case someone needs to contact them in an emergency, but only has the the 1 and 9 buttons. Problem solved.

Absolutely I do Rich, but as your friend came along to point out in a timely manner...its not even worth discussing with people who assign me positions just to be "amusing"
I already gave my position on the topic, Ive seen nothing else worthy of more consideration in this case.

All I see is an attempt to blame the poor again, in the OP.
From the title, to your last comment, its blame, not reality that you are interested in.

Remember the Obamaphone lady? Well they found out who she is! This clip is way longer than I expected but because of the obamaphone lady its the first time I listened to one of his interviews in a long time. I found it worth the time to listen just to hear her reason it all out.

So, his question was, "Got a thought on rampant fraud in government aid programs?" He (or someone,) says that at least 41% of the people with the service haven't proven eligibility.

FYI, here is a summary of the program and requirements: Lifeline phone service.

So, it seems to me that Rich is simply pointing out that a program in which almost half of the users may not even be qualified for, means that those people are stealing from "the poor" for which the program is designed, as well as from every other user that is paying full cost for phone service, and that the government is allowing them to do this.

You, on the other hand, immediately come in with a snarky and dismissive holier-than-thou attitude, trying to paint him as that heartless, thoughtless conservative bastard who doesn't care about "the less fortunate". While, in fact, you are the one who is allowing and encouraging the looting of funds from those who provide the service and from the qualified needy who benefit from the service.

Therefore, my comment (slightly humorous, but definitely on-point and accurate), about your apparent position.

While simultaneously ascribing the lowest most base motivations to Lucy ?

You do realize some of us have been here for a good long time ,we know who the players are,we know the politics behind each others submissions......we also know that the phrase "heartless,thoughtless conservative" is redundant(no need to insert heartless,it's a given)[:)]


p.s. While my comment on conservatives might be viewed as humorous,keep in mind that it is also on point and accurate.

I don't assume that he hates the poor, and wishes them all to live in mud huts and be allowed to eat mud.

What I assume is, that he doesn't like to see the money "awarded" to anyone who intends to steal it from both the poor for which it is intended, and from the not-poor who provided it, and that a government which blatantly seems to avoid decent standards of fiduciary care is praised rather than corrected.

I didn't ascribe any motivations to her. Privately, my thoughts are that she simply finds the level of waste and fraud acceptable, for the amount of "good" the rest of the program provides.

If you see that as a "base motivation", then that's your issue.

What's your point?

It's the same, "assholes, fucking it up for everybody," story we see so often. With the exposure of this fraud, we'll get new rules designed to prevent it, some new bureaucrats or contracted bureaucrats to ensure compliance, and a couple new hoops for the recipients to jump through.

Who precisely did I attack, Lucy? I might be able to get on board with a conspiracy theory that he's a CIA plant, both to discredit those investigators who are worth a shit, and to keep the wanna-be's off the actual scents.

Certainly you have to agree that in most,if not all,instances you hew to the conservative dogma ....so in that sense you could be referred to as "dogmatic",no ?
