I don't have a lack of humor.

Nor, it would seem, a lack of almost saintly patience. [8|]

Y'all do realize that that program was introduced under Reagan and the free cell phone program started under Dubya don't you?

Of course. And the explosion of the program is a much more recent development. 41%, positive for fraud, or failed to comply with documentation requirements.

Did you have a point?

Yeah, the teabagger deregulation horseshit has sort of not worked out in the Randian way they as usual untutoredly thought it should.

Soooo.... who's in charge of it now?

Hang on, Fats. Someone is trying to connect abuse of government assistance program that is rooted in corporate regulation, with a gobbledygookers version of deregulatory theory, and you are gracing that shit with a reply?

Really?

My point is that the word "Obamaphone" is inaccurate and it is still called that deliberately even though the person knows better. I'd say what a deliberate misstatement is defined as according to Webster but the Mods don't allow that any more.[8|]

The only problem is that if it were called a Reagan/Dubyaphone (as it properly is) the FOX-watching mouthbreathers wouldn't have anything else to mindlessly spout.

(well actually, they would but they'd have to think for a few seconds and that taxes their systems)

So that would be a "no" then, on having a point. The program was rechristened by a paid democrat activist who ran her fat fucking mouth in front of the wrong camera, and something new went viral on the internet. Welcome to the 21st century. That sort of thing happens.

You want to call it a Reaganphone? Spiffy. It's still an excellent example of how a well-intended assistance program can be exploited and abused. 41%, Hillwilliam. Now granted, some of those who didn't respond to the documentation demand are going to be among the most needy, and worst off, who simply aren't functional enough to meet the requirement, but there will be plenty of welfare lifers who know to have the right papers in order, too, and all the extra household members with the aid will be able to document that they have self-declared themselves "homeless."

41%, Hill.

A review of five top recipients of Lifeline support conducted by the FCC for the Journal showed that 41% of their more than six million subscribers either couldn't demonstrate their eligibility or didn't respond to requests for certification.

OR didn't respond.

Why would someone not respond? Umm maybe because they were homeless, or moved and didnt leave a forwarding address.

You seem to have attended the same math comprehension schools as Comic Con boy.

OK, one ignorant person called it an "Obamaphone" on youtube.

Are you going to parrot this lady? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpAOwJvTOio

Does she know more about what's going on than you or are you going to use your brain and stand up for historical accuracy.

Teabaggers.   Uh, if you haven't any knowledge of the subject matter, you might keep out of it and let the adults talk, Fats, although it hasn't ever stopped you before.

(If you need a starting point there was an election late last year  you can google that up).

TheHeretic -> RE: The election is over - give back the Obamaphone (2/18/2013 8:57:50 AM)

I call the program "Obamaphone," because it's a catchy little name that stuck. Calling the Strategic Defense Initiative, "Star Wars," wasn't all that accurate either, and the Affordable Care Act would be much better described as "Sabotaging Healthcare," than as, "Obamacare," but that one has even been embraced by the President. Get over it.

So, it seems to me that Rich is simply pointing out that a program in which almost half of the users may not even be qualified for, means that those people are stealing from "the poor" for which the program is designed, as well as from every other user that is paying full cost for phone service, and that the government is allowing them to do this.

This is inumeracy in action, most recently exemplified by the teabaggers in voter ID fraud foolishness.

Fuck you, Hill. It's a fun name to use, and an established practice in our political discourse, and you damn well know it.

Between those who were determined not to qualify, and those who failed to respond at all (yes, with the dysfunctional homeless likely being offset by the scammers who play the game for a living), we have 41%.

Yes, you see the dependency subculture in a parking lot, and they have the bumper stickers of mean, dumb, fundy Republicans. So what? It is still the dependency subculture. I see them a lot more closely, and I'll be the first to tell you that not only does trash come in all colors, but that there is no trash quite like white trash.

41%. That's huge, and it is a symptom of a much larger cancer in the way we try to address poverty in this country.

mnottertail -> RE: The election is over - give back the Obamaphone (2/18/2013 9:47:37 AM)

Are you sure that 41% isn't teabaggers wanting government out of their lives?

It has to be homogenous, to be inumerate.

But we can say that at 41% that is less than people who didn't vote.   We can also say that must be a big chunk of the 47% Willard was flapping his pie hole about.

DomKen -> RE: The election is over - give back the Obamaphone (2/18/2013 9:52:28 AM)

The cancer is because of right wingers who would rather deny lawful benefits to people who qualify.

The fact is that the phone is an absolutely essential aspect of life and if you want people getting jobs and getting off "welfare" they need phones.

Now why do people who don't qualify have phones? Because the companies that provide the service cannot have the application included in the application or renewal of benefits conducted by the various agencies involved. Instead they get addresses from those agencies and mail out the application.

Sure. You're dragging in a poster unrelated to the issue at all, and using that person to insult me, but I'm the one to be scolded.

I'm sure the stalkers are all over the report button, if one of the gaggle isn't already equipped to send me a nastygram.

Got a thought on how we could really address the issue, before the thread gets deleted?

No insult intended Firm, none at all.
Simply a statement.......you aren't suggesting you can be moved from your conservative position ?
You would agree that in this regard your thinking is "closed" no ?
Certainly you have to agree that in most,if not all, instances you hew to the conservative dogma ....so in that sense you could be referred to as "dogmatic",no ?

See,no insult at all [:)]

My thinking is neither closed nor dogmatic.

Tell me, what is "conservative dogma" exactly, in your mind?

Firm

Yeah, I have an idea.

Stop the hysteria. Call things what they are instead of by what some far right or left pundit called them.
When someone tells a pack of lies or repeats falsehoods to promote a political agenda, it frequently backfires.
That's what has hurt the Republican party over the past 2 decades and if they don't stop, they're likely to die altogether as a political force and that will leave us well and truly fucked.
Even FOX realizes it. That's why they're eliminating a few of their so-called 'controversial commentators'.

No, they weren't controversial. They were fucking liars but weak minded, ignorant people flocked to them in droves.

Murdoch has figured it out and he didn't get to be one of the hundred or so richest in the world by being stupid.
Why cant Reince Priebus figure it out. He says "We need to smile more".

TheHeretic -> RE: The election is over - give back the Obamaphone (2/18/2013 10:47:01 AM)

Stopping the hysteria is a great idea, Hill. Yank the discussion right out of the hands of the extremists, and much more importantly, quit trying to force other opinions into the template of the extremists.

Oh wait. That wouldn't be nearly as much fun now, would it? You might have to make some changes in your approach, too. Nevermind.
