Brendan Fraser's 3D extravaganza, "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" was just mind-numbingly boring as far as actually telling (or selling....) a tale of adventure....

Still, it was better than the original piece of crap with James Mason and Pat Boone. And I think his remake of The Mummy was way superior to the Karloff original.

Affleck saved the acting part of his career with that heist movie, and with Argo, to me; now, if he'll just avoid doing another movie with JLo...

Who would play Arseface??

Did you like the Constatine movie? I thought it was decent, considering it starred Canoe Reeves.

I would like to see a remake of Babarella with Katie Morgan in the title role.

i did like Constantine. Despite Mr. Reeves.

Arseface... would it matter who played him? you can't really see his face and the speaking part would be a mumbling.

also... leave J. Lo outta this! she's a brilliant actress who deserves Oscars and SAG awards.

Truth be told, Jeff, the True Grit remake is one of the few (can't think of any others) I thought was better than the original. I hope you, and God, can forgive me for saying that, as it sounds like you're a die-hard John Wayne fan. No offense intended!

I'm no John Wayne fan, either - but that character (Rooster) was *him*!

I personally think the Duke had no special acting talent but he absolutely did bring a presence to the screen and most of his roles. True Grit being a case in point as you tended to overlook the regular doses of corn in the script and ham in Wayne's performance....

Seems to me the Jeff Bridges remake was more about pay cheques and tax write-offs but was probably an ok movie IF you hadn't seen the Duke's version.

Focus.

But Brendan Fraser Mummy did not have that classic line "He went for a walk"

Will Smith's remake (even the name escapes me) of Chuck Heston's "Omega Man"

Will Smith remake of Hestons' "Omega Man" was the second remake of Vicent Price "Last Man on Earth" released in 1964, in black and white, and I will go with Vinney any time on this one.

Speaking of Jeff Bridges, he was in one of the worst remakes ever ever made - King Kong with Jessica Lange, from the 70's. If anyone remembers and I believe the stars even try to forget about it.

I never did see the remake done a few years ago of King Kong.

Well on the subject of remakes, the people behind the remake of "True Grit" have a special place in hell reserved for them... You do not remake a John Wayne classic.

Then of course you have the remake of "the day the earth stood still." A slow death on spit over a slow fire would not be torture enough for that travesty.
Lets not forget the Tom Cruise version of War of the Worlds. The exercise machines used by the Spanish Inquisition would be perfect for that group to have a spa treatment.

The Nightmare on Elm street remakes sucked, as did the Halloween remakes...

Basically, anyone that does a remake takes the original script, runs it through a paper shredder a few times, then hires some hack to rewrite the damn thing.

You do not remake a classic. If it aint one of the deadly sins, it should be, as well as a capital offense under federal law, and a crime against humanity.

If you want a remake done, at least have the decency to allow the generations that saw the original to die off first so we do not have to see tv ads detailing how bad a butcher job was done on a movie they actually enjoyed.

Besides, honestly, who could replace Yul Brenner, Charles Bronson, John Wayne, Bogart, Bacall, and all those actual movie stars and do the original justice?

Thus speaketh the Grouchy old movie fan with over a thousand classic movies on his hard drives.

Truth be told, Jeff, the True Grit remake is one of the few (can't think of any others) I thought was better than the original. I hope you, and God, can forgive me for saying that, as it sounds like you're a die-hard John Wayne fan. No offense intended!

No, I am not a die hard John Wayne fan... I just have all the movies that have ever been released on video in my collection... and I cried when he died.

So in reference to your sacrilege, may you be spanked until you cant sit down for a week....

Like that's going to break my heart.....NOT! That's more like incentive!

Hey, know which movie that I liked with her? The one with Clooney, from the Elmore Leonard book...Out of Sight (I had to Google).

For the time it was made and the obvious FX limitations, I didn't think Mason's version was so bad. But more to the point, Fraser's failed to be better, IMO. That it was all about the 3D rather than the story....

But Yeah, Fraser's "The Mummy" was an excellent watch both for story and FX, as well as an ideal outlet for Fraser's own brand of incidental humour. If it were 30 years earlier, I could see James Garner in Fraser's role. Or even a Selleck or Harrison Ford. Never did see Karloff's (straighter?) version....

Focus.

Lol, didn't even know there was a Vincent Price original. Chuck's version is old - and I'm old to remember it....

Now THAT was an entertaining movie.

I 'specially liked Don Cheadle and his violent gang of morons. The scene where they tried to "crack" the safe by firing handguns at close range and square on at the reinforced door.... lol

Then there were the oft maligned Clooney and Jo Lo - they were excellent in the starring roles, too. Actually, time I dusted it off for another watch....

Focus.

The original "last man on earth" was probably the best, Omega man was a good remake, but the more I watch it, the more it seems like Heston is trying too hard to bring a Vincent Price quality to the production.

Now through some processes that are frowned upon by various Media organizations and law makers, I have on my computer a lot of classics that were put out for limited times on DVD. I have also recorded directly off cable straight to the computer.

I grew up when cable tv showed all the old classics, before HBO even. So I really feel in love with the way they made movies back in the day.

The 70's King Kong remake is a boring mess and the third
version was not really a mess but boring. The original is a
masterpiece. The 70's was produced by Dino De Laurentiis.
His famous(perhaps apocryphal) quote about it was "When
monkey dies people cry." The only thing really interesting about
it is it was Jessica Lange's first role and she's good and very
beautiful. Meryl Streep also read for the role. She tells a story
about when she went to audition for Dino he said in Italian to
the casting director " Why did you send this dog to me?"
Dino denied the story.

I like both the original Wolf Man and the Benico del Torro version.
But I prefer the original Mummy and Frankenstein to other remakes.

I choose Vinnie over Chuck and Soylant Green over Omega Man.

I don't think the Bridges True Grit is so much a remake of the
John Wayne film as a Coen Brothers adaption of the novel
True Grit by Charles Portis which both films are based on.
The Bridges version has the advantage of not having Kim Darby
and Glen Campbell in it. I think John Wayne was a great movie
actor with incredible charisma. His politics don't keep me from
enjoying him as an actor. He was a Republican not a Nazi.

I didnt see the one with Mark Wahlberg, but I liked the most recent one; got my fingers crossed the next one is as good.

Another one I have high hopes for is the next Trek movie. THAT one impressed me, a couple years ago.
