yeah the remake of Thomas Crown was good, but I still prefer the original. Steve McQueen is hard to match or beat.

Here's a movie that would be great as a remake because of the changes in special effects in the last 40 years. The problem is they would manage to fuck it up worse than any of the previously named movies in this entire thread.

2001. Then, they could do the 3 sequels.

This may be a slight anachronism but: Tim Burton could depress the Good Humor©™ man. Everything he does is disgustingly dark. I don't watch movies to get depressed and his movies always seem to do that to me. I just can't stomach them.

To be fair, the first one I saw was that animated one ... "The Nightmare Before Christmas"? It was God-awful. "Batman" was no walk in the park, either.

He's just not someone whose movies I have ever enjoyed.

Now, just for some perspective: to this day, "Pay It Forward" is the only disc I own which I have only watched once because it pissed me off/upset me so badly. I LOVE "The Boondock Saints" (and the sequel, though not as much). I'm not just an "old movies" kind of person but Burton makes me want to slash my wrists, ten minutes into one of his movies.

Wait until Dark, easily in my mind...Audrey Hepburn's best movie. Who would play her part ?

The Hustler a true classic but simply no way to redo it near as well as George C. Scott, Jackie Gleason (world class pool player in his own right) Paul Newman and Piper Laurie. Scott refused his nomination for best supporting actor. Gleason accepted his but didn't win. 9 nominations total with 2 Oscars for technical aspects.

Minnesota Fats was a completely fictional character. Rudolph Walderone who was known as New York Fats (Chicago Fats) was going to sue but instead changed his name and did a pool oriented movie 'The Player' and made good hey out of the new Fats. Fats which is the nick he was called by the pros made appearance money but was a road player and never a world class player, never beating the pros.

The trouble always, is that some are so good because of who is in it and no way to get that back.

BUT, as long as none have Nich Cage, mofo couldn't play dead in a western.

yeah the remake of Thomas Crown was good, but I still prefer the original. Steve McQueen is hard to match or beat.

I agree but the 2nd heist was much more clever with Crown giving the paintings back and getting the girl.

Normally, I am not a fan of remakes.
They tend to slaughter the original movie.

The Clash of the Titans 2010 remake used computers to make all the creatures special effects. This however to some this made the movie less desirable then the 1981 movie. But who can argue against Ray Harryhausen creative genious.

Uh, Here is the problem with 2001, you see it is now 2013, thus the movie would have to be renamed....

Now granted, they could follow the original script, and there were three sequels to the book, 2010, 2061 and 3001

So you rename the first three to give the same time frame as the first three, follow the premise of the books, keep the 3 hours or so movie length.

Another thought, you could give HAL the demented mindset of an obsessive compulsive mass murderer when he finally cracks.

The main problem is that the voice of HAL is iconic, who could do it justice in a remake?

that is very interesting. he has the opposite effect for me. i LOVED nightmare before christmas. and big fish got me right in the heart. his style makes me smile. a lot. takes all kinds i suppose...

Boondock Saints... one of the best movies ever!

Samuel L Jackson or Robin Williams. Im not sure which.
