I think that most people want to be good people. They want to live their lives without harming or being harmed. I think that India is free today in part because Ghandi through non-violent means brought to light how this basic desire to be a good human being conflicted with the reality of British rule. The problem is sometimes people hearts act faster than the accompanying minds, and often the brain never catches up. Outrage can be a wonderful tool for social change, but when laced with traces of stupidity it's just wasted energy. Like an apple pie with just a dash of feces. The Oscars are a prime example of the stupidity-outrage machine. Seth McFarlane is being called all kinds of names and the target of all sorts of vitriol because of his oscar jokes. They're calling him sexist. I can understand why the following would be seen as sexist: “Zero Dark Thirty was about every woman’s innate ability to never ever let anything go.” I think it was a playful jab if anything, and men and women comics take playful jabs at the other sex all the time. But I can at least see WHY it could be called sexist. But when Seth McFarlane said the following about child actress Quvenzhané Wallis: “To give you an idea how young she is, it’ll be sixteen years before she’s too old for Clooney,” People are ranting and raving in comments about how he joked about pedophilia and how to joke about a 9 year old having sex with George Clooney is inappropriate. Those people are stupid, and even worse at math than I am.
