Surely relations between the US and Venezeula will improve now...

yeh it will now become a government NOT of the peoples will.

Like when the cia tried to install their "demobcracy", remember the people kicked their asses out and put chavez back in.

So yeh I am sure they will stomp on the people now.

For as much as I thought the guy was a douchebag, he seems to have had plenty of followers. I don't expect there's gonna be any big turn around for Venezuela to start knocking on our door anytime soon. I actually think it's possible things could get way worse in the power vacuum. I hope not...but we'll see.

I host minor league ballplayers. The Venezuelan kids that have lived with me think Chavez was a fucking asshole and they say that other regular people feel the same
Let's see what happens.

Is that how he got elected and re-elected?

Where did I say that the "other regular people" were a majority?

Well here is someone who thinks Chaves was a great guy, but I am not surprised.

I would never be so insulting as to assume what anybody`s politics were tho or comment on them personally.

I admit that's funny, but this isn't the humor section.

Chavez was a socialist who took the immense wealth generated by Venzuela's oil industry and used it to improve the lot of the lower classes. Of course the US media has to tell lies about the man.

During his time in office the poverty rate declined by nearly half. He also directed a major push to make sure every adult Venezuelan was literate.

BTW he gave poor americans fuel oil to heat their homes.

I wish all socialist leaders would succumb to a long, painful illness.

Peace and comfort,

I will be healthy a long time then.  I am neither liberal nor a fan of Obama.

So you'd rather the mass of people suffer under the yoke of oligarchs? If you had even the semblance of an argument against Chavez' accomplishments, there certainly are many, why not offer them instead of showing off your blind hate?

Yeah but nothing like the grand tourist and trade relationship The United States will have with Free Market Cuba a year or two after El Jefe kicks the bucket.

If there is any justice in the universe, and I'm not sure there is, then yes, there should be a hell of a boost to our relations when that day comes. Hell, it should happen anyway, Castro or not.

We should have been traveling to Cuba 30 years ago.

If for no other reason than to show them there are alternatives.

Ours may not ultimately be the best of available choices but...there are alternatives.
