Gawd ... I almost wish I could!

After over 5 years as a pale white gothy girlie, I decided to take up a friend's suggestion and hang out by the pool. She said she'd meet me around 10 so I got there at 9:30 and made myself comfortable.

She didn't arrive until 1 pm ... I started to feel pain at 2 and finally told her I was sorry but I had to leave ... This was 2:30 ... She asked me why and I said my head hurt and I could feel my skin burning, I needed to get out of the sun. It took me half an hour to walk home.

I took a shower to wash the chlorine out of my hair and noticed my skin looked REALLY red ... Figured, oh great, I got a sun burn, stupid me. I curled up to take a nap and now my skin is more purple than red ... It hurts so bad, oh god and my headache is worse.

I don't believe its sun poisoning. My nephew had that several years ago and I don't have any blisters like he had. I am miserable however and have nothing to treat this. I don't even know how to begin to treat this. I avoid the sun like the plague .. Ugh, it hurts ... I want to bury myself in a tub full of ice but somehow I think that would be a bad idea.

I'm like ... cajun style kiska!

Poor thing.  My best suggestion is to apply aloe-vera.  It's about the best thing for sun exposure.  See a doctor if anything opens up.

And stay true to your nature and out of the sun, or only a little at a time.

kiska I would go to a doctor anyway, just to make sure you aren't seriously affected by this......5 hours in the hot sun when you aren't used to it, could definitely cause heat/sun stroke. Drink plenty of water and keep your skin cool with wet towels. You may not have blisters right now but they might appear later.

Have someone come stay to keep an eye on you. This could be potentially very serious so seek medical help.

Ok lass from one who lives where sunburn is a daily occurance for most of the year and heat stroke for half of it, here is some basic things you can do at least for future reference.. Alo Vera is good, BUT if the skin is still burning then it is a no go as the alo vera is anoily or gel substance and you'll deep fry yourself. Save that till the burning is finished. Cold tea bags are excelent the tannin will help the burn and the cold will help remove the heat. brown vinigar is also great for the same reasons (If you don't like the smell peg your nose or use a gas mask). Camomine lotion is excelent but dries to a white powder so be carefull wheye you lay down. If it is burning then a cold shower will take the heat from the burn or if necessary wrap yourself ina clod wet sheet.... Remember that whilst the sun burn is burnining you are still cooking so get the heat out fast (First Aiders are taught when you burn yourself place the burn under running cold water). You need water fast. Probably a liter for starters as you have and will loose body fluid and that needs replacing fast or you go into shock. I still like warm sweet tea as the sugar is good unless you have diabetes.. If you are a diabet you need medical attention fast this is something you don't fuck with as diabetes fucks up your imune system and anyburn is a potential site for infection. Rule of thumb. Do not use oils or gells you will deep fry... See a doctor for a check up. Better to appear a woos than be a casualty. remember your body id not conditioned to handle the sun.. For God's sake next time use a sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat and as we say in Aussie "Slip slop slap"

Kiska,

I burnt so badly once that when I peeled, it bled underneath.  It was HELL.  And my skin was FUBAR for the entire summer...especially my shoulders.  See a doctor.  I think I started peeling the day after...maybe two days after and I peeled about three or four layers deep.  See a doctor!

btw...did I say to SEE A DOCTOR?

I have very fair and sensitive skin.  Sunburn is nothing to screw around with.  See...well, you know the drill.

Most definately. Think along these lines whilst you feel the burning sensation, you are still cooking away hence the necessity to cool the area down including deep inside. When you do a roast and leave it out of the oval but covered to finishthe roasting many people brush the roast with the oil or whet ever is in the pan to keep the heat in evenly.... I learned this years ago in First Aid when I was still at school and had it reinforced when I certified as a paramedic with the St Johns Ambulance (Professional Service) in Western Australia. It hear it every year as I requalify my various certifications...

We have one of the highest incidence of sun caused skin cancer in Australia and it doesn't take but one serious bout of sunburn to place you in the red zone....

Makes perfect sense...and to be honest, since the fateful summer, I stay out of the sun.  I used like 45 sunblock.  One of the best side effects of that is that I am fairly wrinkle free!

I love the dark. Darkness is my friend...... Moon and starlght is sexy too.. Walking on an ocean beach under a full moon naked? Hell yes any time and working Pagan Rites there as well........ Must do a collaring with all naked under the full moon and southern cross on an empty beach.... It doesn't get any better....

I appreciate all the advice. Seeing a doctor isn't an option due to my boyfriend ... He wont take me unless he thinks I'm dying ... But I'm going to try all the other things. I just wantto curl up and sleep ... I have to cook something for dinner though because he'll be home in like half an hour and he already told me he's had a bad day. *sighs* I pick the perfect day to get a sunburn don't I? Gawd ...  I'm going to look up the symptoms of shock first though because I'm starting to feel strange. I don't know how to explain it. I'm making ridiculous typos ... I keep having to go back and rewrite. I know that probably doesn't sound like anything but for me thats weird. I usually type 90 words a minute with 100% accuracy. I just feel strange. Tired and strange.

kiska,

If your boyfriend won't take you to the doctor's, then find someone else to take you, or call a cab.  If you're fair skinned and you spent five hours in the sun during the the worst time of the day to be in the sun, then you could have a really serious burn there, possibly 1st or 2nd degree.  And where you said you're starting to feel strange, it's much better to be safe than sorry.  I'm extremely fair skinned and don't go out in the sun much, and I can burn after being in the sun for about an hour with sunblock 45 on.  As everyone else said, keep yourself hydrated and cool.

I agree, you need to get yourself seen by a medical professional. Confusion is one of the signs of heatstroke. You could end up seriously ill, please get help asap!

If he won't take you or previcates, next day you shackle him naked in the sun but make sure the sun targets his cock and balls... When they are suitably red and puffed up, ask him if he wants them rare or well done and bast them with something oily....

The symptoms you describe are those of sunstroke or heat stroke. Here is a link... In any case.. it is better to be safe and look silly than to wind up in a coma...
Get yourself to an ER, if you haven't already.

*chuckles* IronBear you are eeeeevil!

My ex was quite upset when I interrupted his night's sleep to ask him to take me to the doctor when my nose was bleeding and would not stop.....some men are incredibly selfish I spent 5 days in hospital - I could have bled to death.

Kiska your health is more important than your bf's dinner or that he had a bad day (poor baby)

Please at least call an Emergency Room and talk to a nurse.

If you have health insurance you can just go there. I think you should be checked out.
You could be dehydrated, have a form of sunstroke, it could be that you have yet to
begin to blister the way it sounds you probably will. A doctor can give you medicine for the pain and medicinal salve or lotion specifically for proper care and healing of burns.

Hope you talk to that nurse, good luck with healing.

kiska,

You absolutely need medical attention.  Do not wait.  If your boyfriend won't take you to the ER, call your mom, a friend, someone, but get yourself the care you need.  Just because you don't have blisters YET, doesn't mean they won't develop.  Confusion, sleepiness, headache are all symptoms of very dangerous condition if left untreated.  Don't wait till the morning...go now.
