You're advocating that everyone go armed, how else to guarantee someone armed would be present to stop every shooting spree. I'm simply pointing out the fallacy that everyone who actually knows firearms and their use can see in your position.

Your mistake is in believing that bad shit won't happen provided the liberal-ideological agenda is fully in place; both in law and in practice. Fact is, all mass killings have occurred within such liberal-ideological venues. You do not see such happening elsewhere. Not to say one could not insofar as being at minimum attempted. But the perp(s) would not last long.

I have no concern for my safety except when I'm in such liberal-ideological venues. That's where the shit happens.

So Sandy Hook Elementary School is a "liberal-ideological venue"? (whatever a "liberal-ideological venue" might be)
Or the cinema in Denver - is that a "liberal-ideological venue" too?
Are you seriously asserting that an elementary school and a suburban cinema are "liberal-ideological venues" as "facts"? Puh-leease!

Do you want readers of your posts to listen to you or laugh at you?

If this discussion is to have any value, please stop posting such utter nonsense and keep your claims within the realm of the factual.

And yet, there is a bill sitting in the House that would repeal GUN free zones. Been sitting there since 7/21/2011.... now sitting in committee.. moved from the House Committee on the Judiciary to the Subcommittee on Immigration Policy and Enforcement. Moved to the Immigration subcommittee by a Republican controlled Judiciary committee.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d112:h.r.2613:

To repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990 and amendments to that Act.

Its part of the Crime Control Act of 1990.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_Control_Act_of_1990

Sponsored by Joe Biden .... Co-Sponsored by Strom Thurmond.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d101:SN03266:@@@L&summ2=m&

The vote is quite interesting as well... in the House...

Dem 178
Rep 135

1 nay ( Gekas )

And 118 not voting.

To say that this is a "liberal ideology" is funny considering the bi-partisan support and the GOP backing..

Ah well, the thomas links dont work... copy and paste if you need to find the bills yourself [;)]

Tazzy, I actually find it surprising so many of the left cannot distinguish the map for the terrain. You find it necessary to point to Party. It's not Party, it's agenda and both parties are complicit.

Sitting here in CO and watching this debated over gun control unfold, I can't help but comment. First off, I am a gun owner. While I object on principle to most gun control legislation, I have, for the most part, just ignored the most recent round of it. I guess I just haven't cared that much. But now, I have gotten to thinking. I just ask myself what the hell are they really trying to accomplish?

You don't think attempting to lower the insanely high death (and injury) toll born of American gun lust is a worthy cause? Per capita, it's easily the highest of all western nations (over 40 times higher than in Australia) and only some African and other 3rd world countries have it worse.

I wouldn't worry about your own guns; ultimately, a notion of trying to save you American's from yourselves is a fool's errand. If I've learnt anything from the assorted gun threads at CM, there is no reasoning with American gun humpers.

Doesn't matter what the proposed reform, it'll get rubbished and dismissed out of hand. Or that the only way to resolve gun violence in the US is to put guns in the hands of more people.

My personal favourite is background checks for mental illness.... Fuck me, where guns are concerned, you're ALL insane! [:-]

So here it is again:

You're just trying to find some way to handwave away the facts.

I think it's more the case that you are bent on waving away the fact that none of the mass shootings you cite, or most of the others, would have ever have become mass shootings if any of the victims or onlookers had been armed.

K.

Just to prevent more weaseling by you, there is exactly one way to guarantee that someone else is armed every time one of these events starts and that is for everyone to go armed at all times. So yes, you are advocating that everyone go armed.

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: gun control and tragedies (3/10/2013 2:58:09 PM)

Just think....
If the whole of the USA was decalred a "gun free zone" and Joe Public was banned from holding any gun whatsoever unless you could prove a use for one (outside of defense), you would be like Oz and UK where you can count the number of gun crimes in a year on your fingers and have some to spare. [:D]
The last report I looked at said there were around 42,000 gun deaths and serious injuries every single day in the US.

Oh, but we can't have that can we?!
That would violate that ancient and outdated 2nd wouldn't it.

I just don't comprehend the "fuck the rest of the country - I want my guns... because I can" attitude.
All sooo selfish as to deliberately not want to see what is better for the country as a whole.

We don't need any "gun free zones" because people here don't have guns as a rule and certainly don't carry them in the streets.

The blind will never see all the while the law allows them to wear a blindfold.

Let's face it folks, nobody will be safe in America till it's normal for Ma, Pa, and all the kids to be sitting around the table, saying their prayers before eating while each one - kids included - has their finger on the trigger. Everybody in America should be ready to blow the shit out of everybody else - Ma, Pa, bro or sis - who can you trust? At school, in church, in the cinema . . . everywhere. That's how a civilised society should work. Yeehah! Etc. God bless America.
