ORIGINAL: FunCouple5280 Sitting here in CO and watching this debated over gun control unfold, I can't help but comment. First off, I am a gun owner. While I object on principle to most gun control legislation, I have, for the most part, just ignored the most recent round of it. I guess I just haven't cared that much. But now, I have gotten to thinking. I just ask myself what the hell are they really trying to accomplish? You don't think attempting to lower the insanely high death (and injury) toll born of American gun lust is a worthy cause? Per capita, it's easily the highest of all western nations (over 40 times higher than in Australia) and only some African and other 3rd world countries have it worse. I wouldn't worry about your own guns; ultimately, a notion of trying to save you American's from yourselves is a fool's errand. If I've learnt anything from the assorted gun threads at CM, there is no reasoning with American gun humpers. Doesn't matter what the proposed reform, it'll get rubbished and dismissed out of hand. Or that the only way to resolve gun violence in the US is to put guns in the hands of more people. My personal favourite is background checks for mental illness.... Fuck me, where guns are concerned, you're ALL insane! [:-] Focus.
