Fun couple...I do not defend Islam....all I am saying is we in the west like to pretend our abuses of women and other cultures is un rivalled. Balance I guess...that is what nature is about. Not hatred, pointing fingers and thinking we are better than we once were. We in the west (and East) have committed identical crimes for hundreds of years. I object to one side actually believing they are right and past sins be forgotten and the persecution of another tribe (in religion or politics) is justified. Let's face it...all of humanity has a propensity towards tribalism and persecution of those that don't belong to our tribe or beliefs. Just because it is intrinsic in human nature doesn't mean that I should try to change myself or say how wrong we all are. Hmmm... wish we could all just pick flowers and laugh...but we are so fucked up...people would start a war about which flowers to pick. It is sad...but that is humanity for you.

I get the cynical world view. But at some point you have to let the past be the past and sit in the present to make things happen.

We study the past to avoid repeating. But holding a grudge, leaves you stuck in the past.

I think you assume we are unaware of our checkered past. Now that you have made that clear, at some point you have to go beyond that and deal with the now and the what's to come.

I want to thank you for stepping in to support tweakabelle's argument. Thoughtful and well-reasoned contributions like the above enhance her position immeasurably, and cast it in exactly the light it deserves. Men are liars! There's the heart of the matter, and I applaud you for the courage to tell it like it is. When it comes to abusing women, Islamist Radicals are mere amateurs compared to the Christians.

I beat six or seven women every day, but no matter how hard I try I never seem to catch up with my Christian neighbors. They do it in groups, you know. The stonings on weekends are the hardest to compete with. I don't have many stones in my yard, or an organized church to draw on for attendees. I think I might have an edge on whippings. But overall, I very seriously doubt that anyone can match them.

FC is right, you have to make today your primary focus; that isn't "excusing" the past, it's not being hamstrung by it.

I agree at times we repeat the past. But we also evolve past it. We are at a point in history where women are really beginning to see some real change over broad geographic regions and cultures. Name one point in history where the global population of women had it better than they do today?

We need to continue and work hard. There is still a long way to go. But there is one thing we never had before, and that is the ability to communicate with anyone in the world at any time. The genie is out of the bottle, men aren't going to be able to stuff it back in.

Man I have seen this bullshit argument so many times it is not funny.

You might also avail yourself to a college or university and take a contemporary religions class, and not a fucking survey course, but an indepth study of the major religions in the world.

Of course, the closed minded rarely do anything that might fuck up their warped perception of the world and people that are different to them.


I would assume they also have "commanments" that they are not to kill or rape. So the "stories" about Muslims killing or raping are bullshit? Like you said, there are "commandments" against that, so I guess it doesn't happen.

They were the victims of the terrible Universalists.

In this context it is obvious that 'all religions have... ' refers to the major groups that have garnered enough power to make it worthwhile killing or being killed over.

And in spite of the number of people who share that view, some people in some places manage to be the exception to 'we've always done it that way'.

When that happens, better medicines are invented, harmful superstitions are replaced by provable science, some segments of some societies experience better quality of life, etc.

Once upon a time it was the Arabic world moving forward, while the West wallowed in the Dark Ages.

Ignoring the former while using the latter as an excuse to hand wave away the problems is neither correct, nor useful.

I've been discussing the story of a Bangledesh teen named Hana Begum for a couple of years now when I give flogging classes. Her story is sadly similar to this one in many ways. 14 year old Hena was raped by an uncle and sentenced to a public flogging of 100 lashes.

This is what this poor Maldive girl has to look forward to: "Hena Begum's friend, another cousin Minu Begum, bursts into tears when she recounts what happened on that day. "They tied her legs and started lashing her continuously. At one stage, she collapsed. But they did not stop. They forced her to stand again and continued lashing until she fainted and fell to the ground," she said." She passed out somewhere around 80 lashes (reports conflict on how many she recieved before she passed out) and died a few days later from her internal injuries.

Unfortunately, no matter what the Islamic sympathizers and apologists here would have you believe about this being the result of extremists, these tragedies are on the rise with rank-and-file Muslims worldwide.

Would it be snark to point out that moaning about this is a pretty awesome level of hypocrisy coming from a resident in a country where they still practice the death sentence, in some States by electrocuting people?
