I owe a correction.Pinellas County is the 5th county in Florida that put in place tighter gun background checks. It basically closes the "gun show" loophole at a local level.

Aren't there certain types of guns that are exempt from the federal background checks?

Cap and ball.

Wait, you need a background check before you can fuck somebody without wearing a hat?

Muzzle Loaders to be exact and then firearms that predate 1902 by manufacture I believe. You can also get a C&R FFL and get C&R eligible firearms mailed directly to you if you hold the C&R FFL.

According to that old news article,Flordia voters did approve in the Florida Constitution back in the late 1990's,that does give each county the right to enact tougher gun backgrounds if they want. The bill that Florida State Republicans passed a few years ago that strips cities and counties the right to enact tougher gun laws, does not effect this law for tighter background checks.Thats because that was voted into the Florida Constitution. Its many the urban Counties that have these tougher background checks. The rural counties usually vote against better background checks.

So my 38 s&w (that is the caliber) doesn't require a background check?
I thought it was that anything with fixed ammo that required one.

Antiques, as defined by the feds, are exempt.
