For anyone curious, I wrote extensively about my experiences in the "FD" world in a blog that I created this year: http://exposingfinancialdomination.wordpress.com/

Interesting blog. You seemed to be presenting financial submission as a kind of addiction, although I'm not sure how it would be distinguished from men who have porn addictions. It seems that what you're describing may be a form of sex addiction, for which there is help and support groups available. (And even if one has a porn addiction, there's more than enough free porn that one can get over the internet so that the addict can get his fix without going to the poor house.)

As a smoker, I can understand addiction rather well. I can remember how it was before I started smoking and can recount the progression from when I started to the point when I was smoking 1-2 packs a day.

Go to any AA meeting, and recovering alcoholics will tell their story and say exactly how they got hooked (and how bad their lives had gotten before they finally decided they needed help). But physical addictions are easier to understand since there's a provable physiological effect caused by nicotine, alcohol, or whatever one's drug of choice might be.

But I just couldn't get a sense of "how it starts" from the blog. You described rather well what happens while in the throes of the addiction, but how does this addiction get started in the first place?

Also, there are all kinds of warnings about internet scammers. The classic Nigerian scam has been well-known for at least a decade. Collarme has a very clear warning in red that says "DO NOT SEND MONEY TO OTHER USERS FOR ANY REASON!" In the real world, one can find scammers and con artists in every profession, from used car salesmen to lawyers. We live in a society where the culture is "buyer beware," so it's difficult for me to fathom how someone can get suckered by these scams.

So, there's a certain naïveté about the internet and the real world in general that's being demonstrated here. As a submissive man myself, I can understand and relate to the feelings involved, but I can't quite fathom the level of naïveté which is displayed by some of these fin subs you mentioned. Even an addict is aware of the possibility of getting ripped off, so they're more inclined to deal with someone they know and can trust, especially if their drug of choice is illegal.

Also, another thing that should be mentioned is that, overall, the sex industry has a very seedy and sleazy reputation. There are reasons why people commonly don't want strip clubs or adult bookstores in their neighborhoods or near schools. That industry has had long-term associations with the criminal underworld and also tends to attract some of the worst kinds of people, like flies on shit. Last time I went to a strip club was the mid-1980s, and I got so pissed off because some guy at the table next to me kept insisting I take off my jacket because he wanted to be sure I wasn't carrying a piece. Bunch of drunken low-lifes worried about their gang shit. It's like entering a thieves' den.

As I mentioned above, we already live in a "buyer beware" culture, but when it comes to some industries (like the sex industry), one has to be doubly careful. It's not the same thing as looking up a plumber in the phone book or going down to 7-11 to buy a pack of cigarettes.

So, in addition to naïveté about internet scams, there's also a naïveté about the sex industry that seems to be evident among the fin subs that you describe. You make them sound like babes in the woods, completely oblivious to the risks and the dangers around them.

As I mentioned above, we already live in a "buye beware" culture, but when it comes to some industries (like the sex industry), one has to be doubly careful. It's not the same thing as looking up a plumber in the phone book or going down to 7-11 to buy a pack of cigarettes.

As for that, I think I can see it. There is also no lack of warning against drinking, taking drugs or going with prostitutes. But the need that get people to do it is overrides any warnings.

I've always had mixed feelings about Financial Domination because I don't think it can be summed up neatly as "this" or "that" or "some other thing." You know, I seriously grappled with my guilt (and the consequences of my actions) in my blog, but ultimately I think I was left with more questions than answers. Unfortunately, the mainstream press will either castigate or lionize the lifestyle, depending on the agendas of the people involved.

If you wanted to write a story about "unscrupulous con artists," you could easily provide a grossly distorted view of financial domination.

If you wanted to write a story about empowered sex workers, you could provide an equally distorted view of financial domination.

Unfortunately, "controversy" and "sex" tend to sell. Messy, complicated truths generally don't.
