I find it more annoying than sad. Of course, they could leave this site which is provided to them by US citizens.

No, there is just a contingent of Brits who are very anti-United States. It's getting old to be honest.

We aren't anti-United States at all.

Just that some of the US responses are too self-pitying and self-righteous.
Not that I really expected anything different from a predominantly US site.

Not saying a drone attack is great thing or any civilian death is justified....but there is a difference. We don't drop a bomb on a soccer stadium just to kill civilians, such as an attack like this. Are we doing stuff abroad that may instigate an attack? Yes. Is this kind of attack justified in any sense? No.

If they were specifically going after an official and had some collateral damage, that is an apples to apples comparison.

This is just spineless, pointless, and hateful. Plain and simple.

So really you are just saying we Americans should be apathetic towards an attack like this? Would you feel that way if your kin were attacked? I don't think so.

Guerilla warefare is just that that - the killing of as many of the opposite side as possible with minimal death to your comrades.
And that's just how those people think.
The drones are indiscriminant and kill many innocent people with virtually no warning.
That's not much different to a car bomb or something similar.
Those 22 innocent Afghans killed at the Pakistan border could just as easily be described as "spineless, pointless, and hateful" just as many drone attacks with no apparent target.
I don't call that 'collateral damage'.
You twist the words to suit yourself without looking at the bigger picture.

I didn't say appathetic - you did.
I'm just saying you need to be a little more realistic in these things - not apathetic.

And as it happens, I do think just like this.
If the UK (as it has) done just as much damage as the US then I don't flinch when some of ours are killed in mindless bombings over here.
We treat them like worthless shit when we kill their people so I don't expect anything different in retaliation.
The methods may be different but the result is the same.

What I see here is someone with no dog in the hunt trolling and acting like a classless cunt and assuming that it's a foreign entity behind the attacks.

The words "spineless, pointless, and hateful" truly seem to apply here.

To feel emotionless is sad, really sad..

To do this at an international event in a very Liberal city (one whos populace is mostly opposed to all of this nonsense) is pure stupidity. I am not going to call for retaliation, because I do believe an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Vengence and justice are not one in the same.

But I am not going to stand here an go oh well. If that is what you wish to do, by all means. But have the decency and courtesy to shut the hell up and let people grieve however they want....

OsideGirl -> RE: Explosions at Boston Marathon (4/15/2013 3:22:19 PM)

I'm just hoping that the death toll does not rise. I'm over here saying a prayer for those who were injured.

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: Explosions at Boston Marathon (4/15/2013 3:22:40 PM)

I reckon it's odds-on that the purpetraitor isn't a true American.

They'll find that whoever did these horrible things was part of a terror cell or organisation.

Sorry if it came across as insensitive. My heart aches for the dead, the wounded, and the ones who have to deal with the slowly unfolding nightmare we're watching right now. I stand by my words, we have been very, very, very lucky so far. Up until this afternoon, we could all go to a mass spectator event knowing that, for the most part, nothing like this would ever happen.
A few months ago, at the range I go shoot at, we had a guest who was an instructor for an advanced shooting class in the area. He was an Israeli, and he remarked at how surprised he was to see how little we seem to be aware of how easy it is for an attack like this. He remarked about things like how the trashcans could be used to conceal explosives, how easy it would be to park large trucks near significant numbers of people, stuff like that. Nice fella, wasn't condescending at all, just surprised at how lassez-faire we are considering our position in the world.

Call me insensitive, call me a jerk. I don't care. I am only pointing out the obvious here.

The instructor you talked about reminds me of the 9/11 bombers. Came here and took flying lessons. Sorry, our borders need to be closed, especially to those countries that have issues with us. Does that come off as racist? Maybe. But I think it is more nationalist.

He was Israeli. Former infantryman and police officer who immigrated in the 90's and lives in the area. I don't think he's a threat in the least. And Israel doesn't have those kind of issues with us.

That would be most countries, so how would that work out again?

I see the motive, mind you, and I'm not opposed to the idea of the US locking itself down a while (which is what you need to do if you want to block foreign nationals, since the rest of the world has more freedom to travel, meaning you would just get the same people in from other sources if you close off to just a few countries). Last time you did gave a huge boost to economic growth elsewhere in the world, meaning sharper competition for the USA financially.

If I lived there, I'd be less positive about the idea, though.

The only thing that comes off as racist is: we know only that some bombs went off, and already you're talking about closing off borders to foreign nationals, with the implicit assumption that it's got to be the work of a foreign national, despite your country having an ample track record of domestic terrorism and destructive nutjobs to offer alternatives. You've perhaps not made up your mind about whence this violence came, but you're already making assumptions about it.

Wanting to close your borders isn't racist.

Your assumptions are (IMO).

No different to LL's comment about some of us Brits. [:D]

Touché

We really aren't anti-American.
But sometimes the self-righteous rhetoric does tend to shine through.

LL

The man mentioned in the post does not sound like the 9/11 bombers at all.
The poster stated he was an Israeli.
People who have spent any amount of time in Isreal tend to be much more aware of the potential for terrorism.

It has been a long time since we have had regular bomb drills in this country.
(Thankfully, there hasn't been need for them.)

I do think your quick assumption came across not as racist or nationalist but ignorant: the kind of ignorance many people develop when not exposed to cultures outside of their own.

If we had closed the American borders in 1995, how would that have prevented Timothy McVeigh from setting off his bomb at the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK?

There is a strong possibility (stronger than the possibility of the bomber(s) being Islamic terrorists or of the bomber(s) being illegal immigrants) that the bombs in Boston were set by people similar to Timothy McVeigh - American-born, Right-Wing extremists who consider themselves "American Patriots". What better way to protest "Federal Income Tax Filing Deadline Day"?

Remember: when Timothy McVeigh set off his bomb at the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK - Fox-News immediately reported that the bombing was the act of Islamic terrorists. Guess they were wrong, huh?

My heart sank when someone mentioned it to me.

Prayers to the victims.

The death toll, for now and thankfully so,seems to be holding at 2...an unconfirmed report says that one of those is an eight year old child....how very, very sad.
Eight remain in critical condition.

not worth the golden letter.
