I haven't been able to get onto collarchat 98% of the times I try. Never have a problem getting onto the profile side, but I don't want to go there! It's been frustrating, and I'm thinking that frustration means I have been spending too much time on collarchat.

ok...I gotta ask....am I the only one NOT having a problem?

Seriously....I have no problems logging on, accessing the boards or the other side. Aside from an occasional slow page load on the boards, I have not experienced anything like the rest of you. I am on here everyday too.

I have a hunch why....but I'll reserve the comment on why it might be.

So please enlighten us with your theory. I had a problem for 2-3 weeks logging in to the site and the boards but it seems to have cleared up now.

Collarchat has been totally unavailable for days (Times out, No connection my machine recognizes), works normally for hours, then disappears again for various periods of time. No other web site seems affected. Collarme.com usually works normally. I'm guessing it isn't a concern for admin and won't be until the forum pages start filling up with ads?

Yeah, 95% of the time the boards are a total pain in the ass to get on. That is IF you can get on them at all.

As long as I stay out of WiFi, I've been getting in okay for the past 2 weeks. Before then, it only worked with WiFi. It kind of bounces back and forth. I thought it was me and the fact that I've been dropping my phone a lot lately.

I probably have the same hunch. When I couldn't log on, I tried doing a few tracerts, and it was timing out midstream, before it even got to the destination IP. The last hop shows up as somewhere in New York, NY, and then it's all "* * * Request timed out" after that.

I am having major issues as well. For about the last two weeks the boards are timing out about 90% of the time.
However, for approximately the last year the boards are having issues more often than not.

It is getting kind of annoying, really.

Agreed. This has been my perception as well. Except it's beyond annoying. I used to have CM running most of the time in case there was a discussion I wanted to join, now I don't bother.

WHY?

There are no ads on this side, so we generate no income. I've mentioned this theory before and it's been denied by Admin, but really it's the only thing that makes sense to me. Either this side is important to the owner or it's not.

I think we got the answer to that question the past few weeks . . .

The site is very aware of it,and I personally apologize for any inconvenience. We are working on the various issues possibly causing this. Please have patience( I know y'all have shown remarkable patience and loyalty thus far) over the next couple of weeks while the techs do what it is that they do.(Hopefully everything will even out before that...I do not profess to understand all the facets of the situation). This side is every bit as important as the other side to the site.

Do we get a reward for being patient? I mean it would be nice for collarme to buy me a 69 full hemi charger for my birthday for all the trouble we been having getting into the forums.

Well, I offered to have a skilled professional work the place over, so I've done what I can, but I never heard back from them. If he didn't do it for free, I'm sure me and a couple of other users with reasonably stable economies could swing that bill. That window is closed now, unfortunately.

So, I guess the answer is "sporadically check if it's back up".

Which, most of the time, it hasn't been.

IWYW,

I can't get on 99 percent of the time either. But I blamed it on his kindle. However nice to know it was cms fault not the Kindle.

Thank you VAA, for finally giving us the important information. That someone IS working on it, and we can hope that the problem is resolved soon.

What I've been doing recently is when I find I can't get the Message Boards to let me in, I flip back and forth between it and others, i.e., Boards then Admirers, then Boards then Journal, then Boards...etc., until finally the Boards will let me on. Sometimes it takes a bit of doing, but before I figured that out a few days ago, I couldn't get on for hours or days at a time.

Agreed. The side with the paid ads is NEVER unavailable. This side is routinely unavailable. Simplest explanation that fits the facts.

ok, since VAA posted and is apparently watching this thread I'll offer my hunch on why I'm NOT having a problem.

First, I can't say if any of you having problems are set up the same as me or not.

So here's my thoughts on it. I still think the site is great, but the software that drives it is aging and may not play well with the new OS and (and especially) browser combos. I still run XP with an old version of Firefox (v.3.6). I am quite serious when I tell you that I am not having any slowdowns or login problems, etc.

Quite simply, I think because I run the older OS and browser it helps. I've tried the newer versions of Firefox, and IE and even took a look a Chrome, but I didn't like them.  Win7 is an option for upgrade, but my XP is stable and functional, so why switch.
