For years, literally years, I fought the stick straight fine and smooth texture of my hair, trying to get it to curl, poof, have volume, stay in one style, did the perm thing.....used all sorts of different styling tools and products, at once.....none of which worked for me. It would literally take an HOUR for me to get my hair done in whatever style I was doing at the time. About 5 years ago, I just decided to face the ugly truth, my hair is fine, smooth and will always be straight. It IS flat, has no body and will do what it wants. I now wear a pixie cut, which is actually quite becoming to my face, turns out long hair ages me, and all I do is wash it, put some humectress on it for a leave in, and use Paul Mitchell's fast form on it, and it looks fine. Because it's short, I can actually blow it dry, and it will allow itself to be shaped, and since it's short, actually has a bit of poof (body) to it. If I want to grow it a bit, a bob also works if it's cut right. My point is, try to just let your hair be what it will be. The only thing I do to mine is color it, perms are too damaging to my hair. Either way, like the others are saying, be glad that your stylist is honest with you about the status of your hair. I've had mine torn up before so badly that the only way to fix it was to chop it off.
