I am pretty hard to offend. Rudeness will do it. That encompasses a huge swath of public behavior, and I won't go into specifics. I will say that some people are deliberately rude, while others just seem to be that way without even trying.

First off depends on the public setting. But Personally any outward display that would make people attending the same venue or are in the vicinity uncomfortable then i would say it is inappropriate.

People making out, throwing fits, fighting, whatever.

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: What behaviour do you find offensive in public? (6/25/2006 9:25:00 PM)

(quick reply)

  • Slow drivers in the fast lane
  • obnoxious smalls, any where, any time
  • the parents who allow their smalls to be obnoxious
  • people who insinuate that I'm abusive to MY small because I DO discipline and maintain control over them, both pubically and privately
  • anyone who wear pants that droop to the point that it looks like their crotch is at their knees- it's not "cool" it's not "fashionable" - it's slovenly and ugly
  • jackasses who attempt to force "dominance" on those who haven't agreed to submit to them
  • public displays of affection that go past a line of good taste and discretion
  • public bdsm scenes - public public, not open dungeon public
  • people who mistakenly think that the ends justify the means

Well.. that's a good start on my list, at the very least - though it's far from Complete, and not necessarily in the order it's listed ...

I may as well kick this off. As a preamble and to head off a few folk, I have stated in severalthreads that ihave lead a slave in public on a leash. I have also stated and still state that I will not allow others dictate what i can and can not do. However i am a reasonable person and whilst I will resist all attempts of others to force wheir beliefs and morality on me, I can listen and even be swayed by reasonable debate. As an example of this, the discussions I had with a delightful lass in the aforementioned Thread and privately made me rething the public leashing ofa slave fromthe view not of adults who maty be offended but the possible wrong immage as seen by impressionable children... Kids are the most important resource we have.

My bigest bitch is the parents of unruly and disobedient kids who turn thm loose in shopping malls and supermarkets where the kids cause damage and discomfort to others... Parents who either can not or will not control their kids in public should have the kids removed from them...... I'm basing this on many istances in which I have been bruised, had a stick deliberatlely kicked from under me and been abused by foul mouthed urchins all whils Mummy dearest was watching and even when asked to take control, refused to do so often with foul mouthed comments.... (Some folks wonder why my home is a child free zone bar a few local kids who know it is a safe house).

with respect IB...While I believe that we all should enjoy the freedoms that many have fought for, there are sometimes situations where we as adults must decide if said freedoms give us the right to behave however we feel like behaving. In regards specifically to you leading a slave by a leash in a public venue not of the Gorean atmosphere whilst is your right, still leads to a question of wether appropriate for unmentionables to view ,IMO probably not..however as you have stated clearly, said unmentionables seem to feel their behavior is appropriate, while clearly in regards to many, it isnt.We cannot have all the people content with everyone in any public venue but we can at least try to behave as circumspectly as possible. But simply because children misbehave due to their parents lack of good parenting skills does not give us as adults to say "well if the children are permitted to behave in such a way then ,that gives me the right to behave however I wish to as well".I try to break it down to what some find offensive about me..I am a smoker..many find this to be offensive, actually I have been made to feel like a outcast by public opinion...while this does disturb me..I still attempt to respect others who find it offensive and smoke where it bothers no one....ach well that is my take on it...be well..Tempting

OK so now you all can really let fly and rant about what displays of behaviour you personally find offensive in public. This includes BDSM, Vanilla and anything in between....

Nearly all clothing, hairstyles, nail colors, and attitudes that existed in 1980-1993.  If you haven't done a rehaul of any of these since that period, yes I mean you.

don't buy into the hype that wearing black makes people trying to look slim do it.

Wearing black does make you look slimmer-not thin- but slimmer - put on a pink dress look in the mirror then put on a black one look again.

If the pink one fit properly and the black one was too small, which would make you look thinner?

So by concensus, is farting permitted and if there is sufficient space and without creating a fire hazzard can a male bend over and bare his arse and fart whilst holding a cigarette lighter to ignite the fart???????

Just curious since farting has not been mentioned so I suppose that we all do it.....

I find farting an amusing silly part of life.

Now, someone purposefully farting/belching loudly and without any pause to excuse themselves is likely going to be rude and offensive.

When I gave that example I assumed the dress's would be of the same size. Yes Black is indeed a slimming look color- so lets say Both dress's fit perfectly the black would make the person wearing it look slimmer than the pink

Things I find offensive in public (Actually  dont know if I take offense by these..but I would prefer not to be witness to them).

1. Agreeing with the unruly kids thing.
2. People arguing with each other.
3. Littering
4. Drunken or drugged people.
5. Having someone try to draw me into conversation or negative interaction which just amounts to gossiping or negativity. Simple example: Standing in the check-out queue and its going slow and a person next to me is rolling their eyes or making some comment trying to draw me into the same negative response to the situation as them.

irishbynature -> RE: What behaviour do you find offensive in public? (6/26/2006 5:46:20 PM)

Gossiping.

MasterCurios -> RE: What behaviour do you find offensive in public? (6/26/2006 8:42:11 PM)

Dear IronBear, Ladies and Gentlemen;

You wrote about bending over and lowering the garments, as to expose the buttocks and break wind per se, while holding a cigarette lighter IronBear.

I find it rather practical for a person on a budget to have some cheeky fire play.   But, I certainly hope that those in the line of 'fire' are clear from the effects.  Of course, wind and air currents must be considered.

Rather good idea for an impromptu moment for a warm moment.

Respectfully submitted with a bit of humor,
Lady Hugs

BlackKnight -> RE: What behaviour do you find offensive in public? (6/26/2006 9:34:59 PM)

littering
uncontrolled children,
Idiot drivers:
slow in left lane, need to stop to turn right, affraid to drive, can't make up thier minds which lane to be in, ass-holes who cut off people, people who can't merge, people who race to get in front of you to drive slow....ooooh I have so many, driving should be it's own topic.
cell phones  when driving,
cell phones in other peoples areas, people who bring their convertation with another person to me, of course I get into their convertation, which pisses them off[:)]
men who wear their pants under their ass,
dress to impress, you only get one time to make a first impression

Alright, this is a start, but as far as the leading by a leash thing, I think it's romantic.  Some people hold hands, some walk with the womans index, and middle finger tips resting on the mans index and middle finger tips.  It show ownership, protecting, caring, I think It's sweet,  But then again I've collared leashed and led females in public.

aellea -> RE: What behaviour do you find offensive in public? (6/26/2006 9:37:34 PM)

just plain out and out stupidity. a lot of things in life you can change, stupid isn't one!

Setting the issue of children aside--since no-one here should need to have those factors pointed out to him or her--I think jali is onto something.

With public, in-your-face cliched kinky displays among adults I'm not so much offended. I just feel like I would if some dorks walked in to the Department of Motor Vehicles office and got in line in their pointy-eared Star Trek costumes and started Living Long and Prospering, or whatever.

I mean, with without any irony or sense of their own ridiculousness.

I just kinda cringe that they don't seem to realize the impression they give. The average person certainly doesn't find these yoyos cool or impressive or anything but pathetic. If any of my friends did it (publicly) in my presence I'd be the first to ridicule them. Becauseafter all the proper response to the ridiculous--if one is to be given at all--is ridicule. I do try to choose friends with some degree of judgement and taste.

If the leatherclowns seemed to be genuinely retarded of course I might make an effort of some sort. Otherwise I'd probably just roll my eyes and snicker like pretty much everyone else in the room.

Why do this crap if you give a damn about what people call "the lifestyle"?

I mean if you didn't know any plumbers and seldom saw someone who was obviously a plumber, but everytime you did he was making a pathetic spectacle of himself and some obviously-doesn't-know any-better partner, wouldn't plumbers have a bad name with you?

feastie -> RE: What behaviour do you find offensive in public? (6/27/2006 3:57:55 AM)

Excellent point, Noah.

But you know, some people are just selfish that way.  It's their "right" to do as they choose in public.  To hell with anyone else.

IronBear -> RE: What behaviour do you find offensive in public? (6/27/2006 8:05:12 AM)

Noah, you have just proved once again that you are anti everyone else's ideas and behavioural concepts who differ from your own.. You regularly insult and belettle their ideas and lifestyle. I guess this is because you seem to have a narrow vision and closed mind... You are not worthy of my time or words. I'm done with you!

IronBear -> RE: What behaviour do you find offensive in public? (6/27/2006 8:10:43 AM)

I agree with you lass. The point I make is that reasonable people usually are prepared to agree with and adhere to reasonable conventions regarding public behaviour. What i rail against is when people attempt to force me fo follow specific patterns and conventions with out any form of explanation or even a discussion.... I am usually happy to make compromises except for core issues and to date those core issues have not caused any problems for others that I am aware of. I could add that I am a thorn in the sides of a number of Christian Extreemists who hate having a Pagan priest in the local community, yet when shit happens they are happy to call on my services as a counsellor/therapist or as a mediator... Strangely they are also the ones who never pay.
