I think the site is just based in America so it has more traffic. I was in Korea for four years, and I posted. (I'm American).

To those who think we care about losing the war....... we dont.

TN.... I loved the south, as I previously stated. The first time i was over some friends of the people I stayed with said I could come and stay whenever I wanted and for how long I wanted. No mention of cost or anything, I was touched at this level of hospitality from complete strangers.

Please, call me K.
Yes we are like that. It's just how we were raised.

The southerners reputation for good manners & hospitality is legendary!

Thanks for the compliment about the accent, by the way [:)].

Until you realize that phrases like "That's nice dear" actually means "Fuck you, bitch"

Are you suggesting that the English use euphemism to hide our dark side? You wouldn't be, would you dear [:)]?

tazzygirl -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/1/2013 10:42:11 PM)

Oh no, that's a southern expression, darlin'.

it's "bless your heart" that we use frequently, lol. And depending on the inflection or how it's used, is depending on if we want one to go fuck oneself, lol.

But yes, "that's nice dear" is usually a phrase used to blow off someone, or dismiss them.

The phrase, 'you fascinate me' means the same sort of thing, doesn't it?

All hail...etc.

I'm not sure about that phrase for here. I'm sure so though.

You've never been to the backwoods of the Deep South, where the boys with sheet's hang out.

Er, where Deliverance and Southern Comfort were filmed? There was a little unfriendliness in those two films, I seem to remember. ;-)

'You fascinate me' is a phrase used if you've been buttonholed at a party, or something, & you're hanging against the wall, having the s**t bored out of you, as you'd rather be anywhere else.

All Hail...etc.

Itsthetruth -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 12:41:45 AM)

Remember the saying from the movie "Southern Comfort" about the South? It's the land of hospitality, unless you don't belong there.Sound's about right.

Or unless you were taken to the south.

This place is so ass backwards but I'm happy to say most places are coming out of the dark ages.

LadyPact -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 1:44:09 AM)

I don't know.

For what it's worth, I didn't have a lot of problems acclimating to the South, when I lived there.

Of course, I did listen to a lot of conversations about the proper way to eat grits. [:)]

TNDommeK -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 1:47:18 AM)

Oh I don't but, in the first couple years of our relationship, Hubby and I would always get looks and derogatory statements.

Now not eating grits properly can result in death by firing squad. That is not tolerated! Lol

LadyPact -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 1:57:44 AM)

Well, let's have it, K. Covered, smothered, butter, or plain?

garyFLR -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 2:22:44 AM)

TND, LadyPact, this is supposed to be my thread, & I don't have clue what you guys are talking about [:D]!

'Grits' is like food isn't it?

All Hail...etc

LadyPact -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 2:23:51 AM)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits

garyFLR -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 2:32:56 AM)

[:)].

Thanks LadyPact, I shall certainly look it up.
