Oh I don't but, in the first couple years of our relationship, Hubby and I would always get looks and derogatory statements.

Now not eating grits properly can result in death by firing squad. That is not tolerated! Lol

I used to get people from the north in the restaurant asking if they can try a grit. One. It always made me giggle.

Can you get a solo grit then? That's great! I would like to try one, but, I wouldn't want buy many as I might not like them.

LadyPact -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 2:38:38 AM)

Have you ever seen "My Cousin Vinny?"

garyFLR -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 2:49:08 AM)

Unfortunately not, I've heard of it though, just looked it up on Wiki, sounds good.

LadyPact -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 2:51:17 AM)

It's a fun flick. Make popcorn.

garyFLR -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 2:54:24 AM)

Can't make popcorn, I'll buy it though [:)].

Best movie! My fav part is when dude leans te chicken bone in one bite! Lol
Lets see, LP, I eat them with butter, or I'll have some sausage links with syrup on them and the grits. That's the only way I do it. Ooh ooh ooh or with cheese. Mmmmm. Oh wait, or I'll make toast and eat them on the toast. I love em.

I would laugh if someone asked for " a grit" lol.

giggles.... sorry.. a solo grit would get you tossed out of most southern homes and restaurants... at the very least you will receive some good natured ribbing.

Ever had of polenta? its close to grits.

TNDommeK -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 3:19:08 AM)

Can't say that I have. But I'll check em out.

garyFLR -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 3:50:19 AM)

I always thought Marrisa Tomei had the best lines in the movie. That and the exchange during the trial about the 'two yutes'. Fred Gwynn was funny as hell in the role of the judge.

There are a lot of good people in the South, just like there are a lot of backwards thinkers in the North. I've never had any problems in the South. Granted,I live in Florida, which some Southerners don't even consider part of the South. You want to see some scary movies about the Northeast, watch some Stephen King movies, lol.

The North certainly has it's fairshare of backwards thinkers, that for dam sure. I did spend sometime in rural Georgia for a time. I never had any issues there. There was one exception where there was a Klan rally near the small town where I was staying. Trust me on this, there are certainly racists in the Northeast too. In some cases, I saw more racism up there than I did down here. There is good people and bad people everywhere.

Charles6682 -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 10:20:18 AM)

I remember taking a trip through rural Maine a few years ago. It was myself and my family. We're riding through rural Maine at night and out of nowhere, we stop at this red flashing light on some train track. Okay,we waited and waited, yet no train. No cars or anyone else was around. We're like,"where's this train". It never came. We sat there for about 10 minutes, wondering "what the hell"?! I swear, it looked like some scene out of a Stephen King movie based out of Maine. Nothing happened, the red light stopped and we moved on. The next day, we enjoyed the beautiful fall foliage of Maine in Autumn. But that night, just weird.

I think as Charles says, there are good & bad everywhere, but, I also like to think there are more good, kind hearted people than bad.

Hey all

Charles6682 -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 10:32:18 AM)

That is a funny movie. Another movie I liked was "Doc Hollywood" with Micheal J. Fox.

I almost forgot to mention that New Englanders have a very unique accent too.

garyFLR -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 11:38:11 AM)

They are very similar to our own aren't they?

& yes, I thought 'Doc Hollywood' was a hoot [:)].

Okay but I do have a question, shouldn't this be in Off Topic Discussion as I am not sure what it has to do with Ask a MIstress?

Done.

FYI, this will get done faster if you create a ticket :)

The singular of 'grit' is no longer a culinary term... 'a grit' is a less than flattering term for a stereotypical redneck.
