ORIGINAL: jlf1961 You know, like Area 51. You had to have a top secret clearance to work the gate house and perimeter patrol, then those of us who actually were cleared to patrol inside checking locks, safes and stuff had a much higher clearance. Hmm. I'm not saying that I doubt the veracity of your claim, but are you sure that you're not prohibited from saying that you have, or had, that kind of clearance? It is a laughing stock installation. The Installation is labeled NASA, yet it has DOD warnings on the fence. NASA discontinued using the facility in 1973. The site is a constant source of news stories on local news stations. Security had to have clearance, there were no non disclosure agreements, in fact, the techs that worked in the facility routinely did interviews with various magazines and news media. What was so secret was the monitoring equipment, and that was behind locked doors that required a magnetic key card to enter. Security personnel were not allowed in there. There were a couple of large safes that we had to make sure were closed when no one was in the rooms. Most of what went on there was to monitor transmissions from foreign satellite transmissions, that much was in a Popular Science article in the nineties. After the fall of the soviet union, the facility staff was downsized, and some of the equipment was removed. Right now, it is part of the network tracking old and obsolete satellites, with a small staff of civilian air force contractors.
