A Democratic state senator is filibustering a draconian anti abortion law.

She has to last for 13 hours without drinking, sitting, leaning on anything and she must not stop speaking.

As a resident of this extremely conservative state, I have to admit that Texas politicians are stranger than most, republican and democrat.

I am not saying that this senator is wrong in her actions, I know the law in question, and as proposed, the term draconian is, in my opinion, a mild description of the law.

I mean lets face it, Texas executed a mentally challenged individual for murder.

I hope she is successful, but in the end, I predict the law will be passed and signed into law by Perry.

Do they get bathroom breaks when filibustering?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Bravery and fortitude in Texas (6/25/2013 12:50:54 PM)

No, they don't.

Jesus. I've spoken for two hours and it actually wears out the tongue and mouth. It hurts. True grit, though not maybe of the John Wayne sort. I want to have her babies. Er....

Feck! I've developed an instant crush on that woman. Pretty damned tasty, too.

PeonForHer -> RE: Bravery and fortitude in Texas (6/25/2013 4:11:54 PM)

I've just been to Sen. Davis's website, told her what I think of her, and invited her to my place in Bristol, England. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, eh? Damned fine looking woman, too, mnnh, mm.

That's the great thing, If she can make it to midnight the special session is over and the bill is dead until the next regular session in 2 years.

Thats what I thought Lucy.....though,and this is just a snap judgement based on an admittedly small sample size,I would add the label "Head Bitch" (but that's just me )

Lucylastic -> RE: Bravery and fortitude in Texas (6/25/2013 10:36:45 PM)

heh Ivebeen watching it since about four this afternoon, but the "presidents"are gonna be catching shit in the dailys tomorrow.
I have no doubts she knows more than I do about their parliamentary procedure, but to say there were no shenanigans goin on, is blind:)

SadistDave -> RE: Bravery and fortitude in Texas (6/25/2013 11:48:07 PM)

Looks like the filibuster failed. The law passed 19-10. The Democrats are crying about the vote, because the voting went past midnight, but according to the Lt. Governor the voting started before midnight.

I'm sure the right-to-take-a-lifers in the Texas Democratic party can expect more butthurt from the deal when they challenge the vote.

Someone remind me: Why did we go to war--twice--to hold on to these people?

You might want to doublecheck that.

Just off the AP Newswire - BREAKING: Texas lt. gov. reverses himself, declares vote on tough abortion bill came too late to pass.
