The people of Michigan mounted an offensive against this attack on democratic freedom. Thousands of citizens collected signatures to get the state’s “Emergency Manager” law put on the ballot in November of 2012. A corrupt government and a corrupt court system fought against the voters, launching a full scale propaganda campaign, in an effort to keep the law from being put to a vote. Governor appointed “judges” declared that the font size on the heading of the petitions was too small and attempted to nullify the signatures of hundreds of thousands of registered Michigan voters. The people continued to fight back and after many legal battles the law was finally placed on the ballot. In November 2012, Michigan’s PA 4, otherwise known as the Emergency Manager Law was repealed by a legitimate majority of voters, during an official statewide election. What should have been the end of the Teaparty’s attempt to overthrow Michigan’s system of government, however, was not the end at all. The Teaparty regime simply wrote the law again and put it into immediate effect, an act which was clearly against the will of the voters.

I was sent this, and the bias is unmistakeable. But I really would like to hear other's thoughts on what is happening there. Is it truly as bad as this or is this writer simply grinding an ax here. I know we have some posters who live there.

FR

Is it freedom when laws are written and put into immediate effect, with no civil discourse, no opposition and no public input allowed?

Makes me think of voting for it so as to see what's in it.

I'll admit that all the news coverage on this is I've seen is from leftist sources but the details above are correct.

It is my understanding the new emergency manager law is slightly less outrageous than the old one but it still allows a manager to come in sell off the political units assets and do whatever else he feels like and that will enrich his cronies.

Look into the fate of the Silverdome for an example of what happened under the old law.

What did you think when the majority of US Citizens were opposed to the ACA while Congress was passing it? The "Tea Party" can't pass anything. The MI government representatives passed the law, right? Weren't these representatives elected?

Perhaps you need to redefine your "will of the people" ideas? Remember, the next set of elections will show what changes the "will of the people" want. That is the way our form of government works, isn't it?

WASHINGTON — More Americans now favor than oppose the health care overhaul that President Obama signed into law Tuesday, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds — a notable turnaround from surveys before the vote that showed a plurality against the legislation.

By 49%-40%, those polled say it was "a good thing" rather than a bad one that Congress passed the bill. Half describe their reaction in positive terms — as "enthusiastic" or "pleased" — while about four in 10 describe it in negative ways, as "disappointed" or "angry."

This isnt about national or health care. I would actually like to pertain this to Michigan and what is happening there.

No it isn't, but Desi does point out the hypocrisy here. It's to bad what people are so upset about in Michigan, going against the will of the voters, wasn't also applied in DC at the time of the ACA's enactment. Like your response to Desi's comment, perhaps soon the Michigan voters shall applaud what was done?

I havent stated I was upset by this. I said I understood the bias that was obvious in the piece and questioned that bias by asking people what they knew was going on in Michigan.

1) Where did I ever say YOU were?
2) My response was not to your OP post but to that which you responded to Desi.

Which referred to the OP.

And since both of you gentlemen insist on making this a national discussion dating back to 2010....

I do find it interesting that a Texas Republican Representative said Pelosi was right, dont you?

So what it referred back? It also engaged Desi.

As to Michigan, what is there to complain about?

Not to derail this thread but what you claim is a lie. The fact is when the provisions of the ACA are actually presented to people it is overwhelmingly popular.

Keep in mind when the author of the article writes the city put the stadium up for auction with no minimum he really means the appointed Emergency Manager did so over the protests of every elected official in Pontiac.

Why should a political subdivision (Pontiac) own anything like a stadium? But since it did, and was losing money, best to sell.

Political subdivisions routinely own stadiums. Who do you think owns the stadiums of public universities? Public high schools? Softball diamonds in public parks?
