Zimmy may have been a lot of things but a skinhead isn't one of them.

Zimmy does not have to be a skinhead for a young black kid to see a whitish guy with a shaven head following him to consider that the shaven head perv/creep might be one and to be afraid.. If I put myself in Martin's position, if I was a young black kid being followed by a shaved head creep, I would have been very afraid myself.. (I have actually been in a similar situation-see my previous post of being followed by car by a "redneck" attacker)..

it was still profiling of someone that, at least at that moment, didn't deserve it.

Agreed. But in a neighborhood that was suffering from repeated burglaries and home invasions by old white guys, I'd expect to be profiled too. Fortunately for me, that's probably not the case anywhere on the planet. But for Trayvon, he not only fit the profile, he probably didn't have a clue. The whole damn thing was a tragedy from start to finish. Zimmerman never expected (let alone intended) to shoot anybody. He only bought that gun because of a problem with dogs in the neighborhood, and only after a loose pit bull cornered his wife in their yard.

But tragedy is one thing, depravity is another. And in my opinion, what's truly depraved here is the race-baiting circus that set up its tents on Trayvon's grave, drawn by the scent of money.

I don't think Zimmerman was necessarily "racist", but his targeting Martin was racially motivated. Zimmerman's utterance of, "These assholes, they always get away," clearAt least some of the recent problems in the neighborhood had been caused by young, black males. Martin was a young, black male, thus making him (in Zimmerman's mind) a part of the group causing problems in the neighborhood.ly shows that he considered Martin as part of the group of "assholes". In Zimmerman's mind he already considered Martin guilty of...something...and he became Martin's judge, jury, and executioner.

I don't think Zim planned to hurt or kill anyone, but his actions created the situation that happened.
Succinctly to the point!

Right, tj.

But the presumption among the Zimmy defenders seems to be that T Martin was actually at fault for not having sufficient telepathic skills to be able to ascertain that some fellow with his head shaved was not in fact a Nazi sympathizer skinhead, and that the aggressive behavior by a conspicuously and overtly strange acting person with a shaved head and wearing a red sweatshirt did not indicate immediately that this was a 'neighborhood watch' person, etc.

If Martin actually had such telepathic ability, he would have known about Zimmerman's prior record of assaults on a policeman, his girlfriend, his roommate, etc., and probably would have started running a lot sooner and a lot faster.

OK, Martin never actually 'ran,' I was just speaking rhetorically, there.

Moderated or Unmoderated I need to stay within TOS.
It would be too hard to go back to "normal".
lol

tazzygirl -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 8:21:26 AM)

~FR

There were 871 burglaries in Sanford in 2010.. there were only 8 break ins reported in the 14 months preceding the shooting. A suspect was caught just weeks before... and others were caught previous to that attempt. Calling this a "rash of break ins" is deceiving in light of the number of burglaries in that city.

population of 53,570

Its more media hype.

I see a number of posters talking about how it isn't illegal to follow someone, and technically that is correct.
Now, I have to wonder how many of those same posters would say to their wife, sister, daughter, or young children, "Now honey, if you are ever walking home alone at night, and you see someone following you in their car, don't worry because they are not doing anything illegal.
And if they get out of their car, run after you, and follow you on foot, don't worry, because they aren't doing anything illegal. And if you decide to hide from them, but they hang around and keep searching for you, don't worry, because they aren't doing anything illegal!!!
"

Thank you for hitting the proverbial nail on the head.

You don't wonder that. You know what they would say. Get as far away from him as you can and call the police.

So it cuts both ways.

Soooooooo much easier said that done.
I hope no one here/or there loved ones, is every chased down a street on a dark night.

tazzygirl -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 8:39:19 AM)

I was chased in the day light... I would cross the stree.. he would follow.. I would cross again.. so would he... was back and forth .. when I broke into a run.. he ran following me... I got lucky and happened to bump into my brother who took care of the issue for me just by his presence.

Yeah, I know that fear.

I don't know about the US and most other countries, but if you specifically follow a person (as opposed to "just happened to be going their way"), it certainly is illegal - it's called stalking with intent.

In this case, although things can be said to cut both ways, if Zimmy made it his specific task to follow Martin, he would be breaking the law here.

Edwynn -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 8:41:18 AM)

Martin made some effort, however insufficient as it turns out, to get away.

There is nothing in any testimony or phone record or other account to indicate that Zimmerman made any effort to get away.

The onus to get away might fall on both parties (re; "it cuts both ways"), but it's somewhat in the nature of reality that the person doing the following is not keeping up his end of the deal in that regard.

tazzygirl -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/13/2013 8:42:02 AM)

What safety was that when you consider he had a younger brother at home?

Of course that is what they are going to say, which is why when people use the excuse that Zimmerman "wasn't doing anything illegal" it is simply an attempt at white washing Zimmerman's actions that night.

tazzy, it's a horrific fear, unless you have been through it, you have no idea.

At night.... wow... I simply could not imagine it.. day light was bad enough.
