Actually the first serious gun control came with Mississippi confiscating firearms owned by blacks to keep them from defending themselves.
They claimed this would cut down on violence. Amazingly the supreme court in one of the worst rulings since Dred Scott said they were not bound by the 2nd.
The next big step was the Sullivan act in NYC the actual purpose of which was to see to it that Sullivan's thugs had guns and his opponent's thugs didn't.
So it has a stellar history.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you (I'm not), but I did say "Modern" Gun Control :-)

For some reason, the idea of heavily armed militant blacks terrified the extremely racist Oakland Police.I can't imagine why...
