I kinda have a belief that congress shouldn't be able to pass any laws in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy, short of an act of war of course, kinda a cooling off period for lawmakers. They tend to pass knee jerk wildly reactionary legislation, stuff that's regrettable later.

You might want to add a provision requiring them to actually read the shit they pass.

Both excellent ideas, gentlemen!

I'm not denying that we have a race problem in this country,no sane person will. But how much of it is fostered and festered by political/social/financial reasons,or just flat out to induce fear and have the population turn more and more liberties over to the government?

What liberties have folks surrendered to the federal government in the effort to reduce racial discord?

It's been asserted by more than one party that modern Gun Control laws started when the Black panthers started arming themselves. I posted a link to an article some pages back. Not to mention how many civil liberties have been stomped in the largely racist drug war (look, the stats are undeniable. The drug war is a war against the black underclass).
But I was discussing fear as a political tactic in the macro, more than this micro. One can't deny that fear has led to the Patriot Act,which led to prism, and eavesdropping on the internet and drones in American airspace and Guantanamo and all sorts of insanity, to give just one example-that shit was a wild over-reach.

Actually the first serious gun control came with Mississippi confiscating firearms owned by blacks to keep them from defending themselves.
They claimed this would cut down on violence. Amazingly the supreme court in one of the worst rulings since Dred Scott said they were not bound by the 2nd.
The next big step was the Sullivan act in NYC the actual purpose of which was to see to it that Sullivan's thugs had guns and his opponent's thugs didn't.
So it has a stellar history.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you (I'm not), but I did say "Modern" Gun Control :-)

For some reason, the idea of heavily armed militant blacks terrified the extremely racist Oakland Police.I can't imagine why...

If we had done that we would have never found out what was in Obama care as per Pelosi

Point taken.
However it was the combination of Richard Speck (who didn't even use a gun) and the Bobby Kennedy assassination that led to the 1968 gun control law from which the others have sprung.
That was when Panthers were displaying bumper stickers saying "when guns are outlawed only the police will have guns"

Are you kidding this was one of the few times I agree with them, and you must of missed the part where Kana described the Oakland PD as
"extremely racist"
you must also have missed when I pointed out that the first stab at gun control started as a ploy to keep blacks from defending themselves in Mississippi.
Now they don't want anyone to be able to defend themselves.

Powergamz1 -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/17/2013 8:35:37 PM)

It *was** Dred Scott.

The Jim Crow era 'must retreat' and 'may issue' laws were applied, shall we say unevenly for quite some time.

Stand your ground, and shall issue were enacted in the face of civil right activists demanding that black people have the same rights to self defense as the elite.

That was bitterly fought against by the elite, right up through the USSC rulings in Heller and McDonald that once and for all debunked the racist myth that SES determined the right to bear arms.
Remember the original definition of a militia? White free men? And how many posters here have parroted over and over 'No 2nd Amendment rights unless you are one of the militia'?

And so what's the meme from the same posters now? Oh, that brown skinned, Afro-Peruvian descended George Zimmerman should never have gotten a CCW, and certainly should not have benefited from the Constitutional guarantees of the right to self defense, and a fair trial

Yeah... it's about race all right... As I keep pointing out, Racism 2.0.

Of course by logic, if not always by practice, black men would have been added to the militia by the 13th admendment.
