It raises tough questions, because if the desire is that strong and cannot be treated/cured, and doing so would make them be more well adjusted, then why shouldn't they be allowed to do it? I am not saying it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, but there are people who argue the same thing about SRS surgery for trans people, that it is mutilating a healthy body, that it is not needed, and yet to people who are trans it literally can be a matter of life and death. I doubt she is doing this to get on the dole or disability, I suspect it is some deep seated need.... I think it is why it should be in the hands of experts to decide what to do, because it is so fraught with emotion. Like I said, knowing more then a bit about the trans world, there were a lot of people arguing that SRS should not be allowed, whether it was against God's master plan or they felt there was no need for it or because it squicked them out, but as someone once said, to understand sometimes you have to put yourself into the person's shoes to try and understand it. There are people where amputee-ism is a fetish, but from what little I know of people like her, this isn't a fetish, it is what they really feel.
