Never lived there so I wouldn't know the individiual experience. But I will say the Europeans Ive met are pretty cool. Beliefs are pretty aligned, I don't think we are that different really.

We are not, there are some differences but are menial, what's different is the political discussion's topics.
About guns, it's easier in the usa but doesn't mean here is impossible (at least in italy) if you have no criminal records you can legally buy one. The real difference is what you are supposed to do and when with it.

Well- if we based freedom on dead babies- the EU hasnt been very free to those dead babies. In the US the' one day have the freedom to be on CM, whereby if they were aborted they would never know this pleasure.

Is it too late to get myself aborted?

Euthenaisia, and eugenics is ALSO less happening in the US.

You can not kill innocent babies- when so many would adopt them. No one has the that "right"- it is MURDER. And for the deceased- they are not very "free"

I dunno. Don't the otherworldly religions preach that the ultimate freedom and desirable goal is to be free of the corrupt earthly body? Sure they do. Death is liberating!

So do I. In all my life the only times I have ever heard a gun fire was while hunting or target shooting. Never once have I heard a gun fired in anger or any kind of criminal activity.

So what you're saying is that you want big government to decide whether women give birth or not?

You should probably stop calling other people statists then. Just so you know.

Thats not the impression from reading the gun nuts on here.

Well, you should expect false impressions from nuts. The reality is most Americans don't own guns, gun ownership is declining, and you can walk around the vast majority of America without fear of being shot (well... so long as you're not doing anything suspicious like walking down the street while black).

"The reality is most Americans don't own guns, gun ownership is declining, "

We want you to think that.

Realistically though, CCW courses are booming, gun and ammo sales are booming. If people think gun ownership is declining, GOOD. Now let's see someone start some shit. Let the assholes reveal themselves. We'll stack them up on the streecornrs. LOL

T^T

Yes, there are occasional blips whenever something happens that scares the shit out of certain segments of the population (like the election of a black President) but overall gun sales have been on a thirty year decline.

Your paranoid fantasies are frighting and people like you are why I support background checks.

You see, this is the kind of freedom that makes the rest of the world sob in envy, Termy.

After WWII, America had a great passenger train system, and trolleys in just about every major city.

General Motors was tooled up for mass production after the war effort, and they expended enormous lobbying efforts to get the trolley tracks paved over, and the trains reduced to cargo.

Compare the European rail system to the American highway system. We've been working on our respective national transportation systems for many decades. In America you can drive anywhere you want, when you want, stop where you want along the way, etc.., but you have to pay for all the transportation costs (gas, maintenance, etc.) yourself for every trip you take on an American highway. In Europe you can ride a train that is reliable, cheap transportation, the trains run pretty much on time, and even though they don't stop at every possible tourist trap along the route, they stop in almost every town. Both are good systems, but which one is better is really just a personal choice.

I really don't understand what you mean with this, is the whole point in america you don't pay a toll on higways and trains are more expensive?
because every european country has a highway system in germany is free, in other countries is very cheep like in asutria, in Italy is expensive but highways are very high quality, trains are better in other countries but also more expensive and changing from a long ride train with a local train from the closest city you can stop almost at every small town. But both peronal and pubblic trasportation are granted.

Powergamz1 -> RE: Who are more free... Americans or Europeans (7/23/2013 3:33:42 PM)

The obvious differences are obvious. In America, thousands of legally married same sex couples are free to go anywhere in the nation that they want and suffer no legal reprisals. In the UK and other countries in Europe... there still are no legally married same sex couples. France seems more free than the rest on that metric. (Even Canada won't recognize US gay marriages).

In America, a black family, Asian family, or minority religion family et al. can hope to see their child grow up to be the head of the entire nation. In European countries... not so much.

In some European countries, prostitution is handled in a more progressive manner, while some US states are only now taking steps to decriminalize being forced *into* prostitution.

American universities are still held forth as representing the free exchange of information and critical thinking, although the billions of dollars invested in dismantling that seem bound to succeed very soon.

And of course, in Europe, the trains do run on time.

Pfft. Really, PS, it's such a lot of bollocks, isn't it?

I often think there are comparisons between the 'freedom' afforded by owning a gun and that given by owning a car. Somehow, they've both ended up being the greatest symbols ever of 'freedom'. Nothing to do with marketing, nothing to do with culture, least of all to do with ideology: such things just *are*, 'absolutely objectively', key markers of freedom.

I've come to think that there isn't anything that one might at first think is restricting (if not downright undesirable in all ways) that hasn't been 'sold' at one time or another as 'liberating'.

Care to post anything to back this crap up with ? Same sex marriage is legal in several EU countries and pending in most of the others.
