Ken can indeed attest to his assertion. Other Brits as well as myself have said as much before.

Oh puleaze. What would you Brits know about living in... well... Britain? Sheez.

Typical freakin European snobbery.

You busted me Jeff. [8D]

Lucylastic -> RE: Gotta love that,...."Multiculturalism!" (7/21/2013 4:35:59 PM)

omgawd, interesting tonote that the ONE article that claims there are no go areas for police in britain is from the daily mail(surprise?) stating that an iranian professor states that cities such as manchester, birmingham and liverpool are becoming as bad as Brazil and mexico ...and then the mail gave an example of what bullshit it is....
Manchester...population...2,2 million, Murders 35(2009/2010
Cuidad Juarez, population 1.3 million with murders 6000

There are claims of no go areas for white christians, and muslims alike, the BNP and the EDL have a bunch of slime n shit, but NOTHING except a claim of no go area after toxteth riots, other riots and northern ireland during the 70s and 80s.

I remember there used to be places in glasgow where cops would only go in armed, but that was years ago, but no go areas? hes talking out his starfish again

Politesub53 -> RE: Gotta love that,...."Multiculturalism!" (7/21/2013 4:42:18 PM)

There are areas of Glasgow that should be treated as a war zone after each Old Firm match but that has nothing to do with Muslims just good old fashioned soccer "fun and games." (The fact that the Rangers are inherently superior to the Celtics is of course true and not deserving of further discussion.)

Funny thing though, all those differant ..."cultures" *always* seem to want to come to *western countries* don't they oh, and impose their *cultures* on us.
They want The West to be "multi-cultural" but *THEY* don't want to be "multi-cultural."

Guess you don't know a lot of immigrants, then.

Because the ones that come the US, at least - most of them love to be the US, want to be American, and are very happy about Western cultural values like freedom of speech, freedom of religion, girls being able to go to school, fairness of law, etc. They may or may not choose to dress the same or eat the same foods as most native-born US citizens, but that's their right and their business. I know a LOT of immigrants, have done my whole life, and I've never had someone try to force me to follow their religion or eat their food or whatever it is you're worried about.

Your assertion, but if I really have to :

Ecuadorian embassy.

What's more Sharia law can be enforced at any embassy of any country with such laws.

Of course you are going to say that doesn't count because your kind excuses your own incorrect generalizations while berating all others'.

Don't worry, we are used to it.

oh my lord. Seriously? Yes, everyone is watching and if you think you scored any points with "Ecuadorian embassy" I'm afraid you're sadly mistaken. Much as you scored on a technicality surely you see that answer as entirely irrelevant to the topic being discussed which would make it a pointless answer.

That is so outdated, like the GOOD immigrants who innovated and built this country many many years ago. No welfare, no signs in their language, nothing of the sort. How the fuck did they EVER make it ?

Hah! Back in the "old days", the immigrants who came and built this nation read signs in their language, read newspapers in their language, went to stores and restaurants that only served their food, sometimes even went to school in their language. It was common for people to speak the "mother tongue" as a first (or even only) language for generations, something practically unheard of among modern immigrants in our age of TV and universal public school. Immigrants these days, and their kids, are assimilating faster than ever before.

Powergamz1 -> RE: Gotta love that,...."Multiculturalism!" (7/21/2013 10:50:41 PM)

Yep. Thanks for debunking the revisionism.

Have you actually been believing the right wing insanity that you read again?
Sharia "courts" in the UK are unofficial bodies that no one has to go to and have no power to enforce their "decisions" and there are certainly no areas where British law enforcement does not go.

They're basically mediators, right? I've read that that's what Orthodox Jews, I mean the hardcore Hassidic types, do to resolve disputes based in religious law. The parties involved (say, a couple getting a divorce) basically go to a special rabbi and sign an agreement saying they'll follow his decision, and then let him make his call as a representative of the religious law. So they're more or less bound by a civil contract to obey the agreement, but it's not like a rabbi has the ability to send you to jail. It's more like Judge Judy kind of stuff, really. "Pay your ex-wife $500" or whatever.

Define "old days". Ellis Island had a literacy test. It was a federal law that anyone over the age of 16 had to pass one starting in 1917.

Sure. I mean, Mr had "Pennsylvania Dutch" relatives that still spoke German at home when he was growing up, and their ancestors had probably been here since before the Civil War. Contrast that with many of the third-generation (e.g. their parents grew up here) kids I've known, who grow up speaking English at home and have to take lessons to learn their own parents' first language.

I don't recall that from my visit to the museum there a few years ago, but I'll take your word on it. I was speaking of even earlier immigrants, the Pennsylvania Dutch in particular, who came here in the 18th and 19th centuries, and had newspapers in German, public school classes taught in German, etc, for generations.

Also, was that just an Ellis Island thing? Ellis Island is famous, but it was only one station.

One guy I know now, a successful businessman, when he came here, he could barely speak any English, let alone write the Latin alphabet, so he did his best and now his official legal name in the US is misspelled. His kid (who he gave an English name that he can't pronounce correctly) can barely write her own name in the alphabet of her parents' native tongue. That's speedy assimilation.

embassy is an exclave of the country it represents so you are just saying that british law enforcement have no power in ecuador

He doesn't appear to know a lot about current affairs or history either. A glance at the history books will reveal that, for the last several centuries, it has been Westerners going to other peoples' countries and imposing our culture and values on others rather than the other way around.

Of course there are differences between the way 'we' do it and the ways 'others' do it. For example, Westerners tend to use armies, invading and occupying entire countries rather than migrating as individuals. Westerners tend to slaughter 'them' en masse should they be ungrateful enough to reject our unwanted advances. And Westerners usually refuse point blank to integrate themselves into the local way of life.

It's called colonialism. Just about everyone with a brain agrees colonialism is evil. Yet it's still happening today in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan and other spots.

Embassies are the territory of the nation of the embassy not the nation that surrounds it. So you remain full of shit.

There is a section of Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago where most of the signs are either in Polish or in both Polish and English. There hasn't been any major Polish migration to Chicago since before WW2. So that's at least second generation Americans whose primary language is Polish.
