I need to look for pictures. Anyone seen the condition the mans property was in? If he had close neighbors, really they had a right to say something, if his place was hoarding infestations of rats, roaches, standing water etc. which all brings diseases. If pickens get thin, they are coming over to your place for a bite. lol.

Fact is the man went off his rocker, and shot em up. No matter what he did that. He needed some help obviously, mentally, but now its to late.

Ok now we are getting down at least to the surface of the meat of the issue.

IF IF IF IF he was using his property in a manner that would irrefutably threaten the lives of his neighbors that is another story. Then its perfectly ok to go in but why is it NOT ok for an interloper to go in?

If his property was a health risk, the neighbors spoke to him, could get no resolution, then the interloper (city) will get involved, and they should be. He is not only a risk to himself, but to others. If its only an eye sore, then it gets grey. People really get upset about some stuff.
Reminds me of the farm, loved my neighbors! but for two summers they put pigs in their front plot of land in front of their house. TALK ABOUT STINK!!!!!!! I didn't like it but I kept quiet. One day they came and sat on our porch in July, and said wow the wind blows the stinch over here. I grinned, and said ya think? The next summer, and all summers after no pigs in the front lot. There are lots of inconveniences in life. Its having the wisdom to know which ones are really worth fighting, and getting bent out of shape about. Just an opinion.

Bravo Chatterbox! This is how you handle neighbors. Most people will try to get along with others... maybe 80% will.

Them experiencing the smell was a great solution, non confrontational, and you are still the good guy.
