kalikshama -> 29% Of Louisiana Republicans Blame Obama For Hurricane Katrina Response Under Bush (8/22/2013 2:53:31 PM)

A significant chunk of Louisiana Republicans evidently believe that President Barack Obama is to blame for the poor response to the hurricane that ravaged their state more than three years before he took office.

The latest survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, provided exclusively to TPM, showed an eye-popping divide among Republicans in the Bayou State when it comes to accountability for the government's post-Katrina blunders.

Twenty-eight percent said they think former President George W. Bush, who was in office at the time, was more responsible for the poor federal response while 29 percent said Obama, who was still a freshman U.S. Senator when the storm battered the Gulf Coast in 2005, was more responsible. Nearly half of Louisiana Republicans — 44 percent — said they aren't sure who to blame.

That's inexcusable. No way a freshman Senator - from Chicago or not - should have that much power and sway... [8D]

Some people are just so... so... "insulated." Let's go with that. It doesn't sound as bad...

"Low information" [;)]

hlen5 -> RE: 29% Of Louisiana Republicans Blame Obama For Hurricane Katrina Response Under Bush (8/22/2013 4:17:52 PM)

There are still people who think we found WMDs in Iraq. How low can the "low info" bar go?

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: 29% Of Louisiana Republicans Blame Obama For Hurricane Katrina Response Under Bush (8/22/2013 4:21:17 PM)

Ya know, now that I think about it, Obama was alive during Watergate AND the Viet Nam war - he MUST have had SOMETHING to do with those events, too!

And since he is a mortal man made in God's image, he obviously is guilty of the Original Sin, too. Miscygeny in the Garden Of Eden? Must be.

I've heard tell that Obamathe unelected Kenyan usurper with no birth certificate had something to do with the Mau Mau uprisings in the '50s, so he doesn't have to have been born to be obviously culpable...

I'm kind of impressed, in a sad way, that the number isn't higher.

An this should inform everyone about the depth of hatred Republicans hold for the President? Blame him for stuff that was not even remotely his fault.

Maybe we need to ask the serious question: Is the age to vote based on one's physical or mental age? I keep finding scores of idiot conservatives that are physically in their 40-60's yet behave like they are in junior high school.

And that's just the ones who are in the Senate.

And this thread and others like it show the depth of the hatred some liberals hold for republicans. What's your point? Do you honestly think Obama is the first president people hated? Considering some of the comments you have made about Bush I find that hard to believe.

and now people are acting all surprised because there are ignorant people in Louisiana? I am guessing that some of the posters peed their pants in excitement when they first spotted this article. What a wonderful opportunity to prove the other half of the country is ignorant and you guys are so caring and intelligent in all you do.

I looked at the link for the poll and I never saw that question on it. I skimmed over it twice. I did see questions about Duck Dynasty and Mother Theresa on it. How did the polling company come up with the Katrina thing if the question was not directly asked?

It is always possible that I clicked the wrong link as well.

It's question 2 in the first scroll box. You can see it better on the link http://www.scribd.com/doc/161910086/PPP-Louisiana-poll-August-2013

This is essentially the question I wanted to ask with this story:

And this should inform everyone about the depth of hatred Republicans hold for the President? Blame him for stuff that was not even remotely his fault.

Where's the hate towards Republicans on this thread? I don't see this as hateful, but as a desire that people who vote be informed:

Can you point to another major event that is so erroneously blamed on another President?

There are very few actual conservatives who are in either branch of Congress.

tazzygirl -> RE: 29% Of Louisiana Republicans Blame Obama For Hurricane Katrina Response Under Bush (8/25/2013 6:49:33 AM)

As for this poll... I have to take it with a grain of salt. The company is left leaning.

I see no indication of how many people were polled. An extremely small sample wont impress me much as to these results. I could have missed the sample size being stated, but I cant find it.

Is this just a GOP belief in Lousiana, or are there also Dems who believe the same? That part is just as disingenuous. I realize the poll was tailored for these results... but its a bit too tailored for my tastes. I would rather want to know about the stupidity level across all political leanings rather than just on one.

Amazing huh? A liberal who actually picked apart a poll aimed at making conservatives look bad.

Kana -> RE: 29% Of Louisiana Republicans Blame Obama For Hurricane Katrina Response Under Bush (8/25/2013 7:04:11 AM)

The irony here is that pretty much every Louisiana native I met while down there was well aware that the area wasn't ready for a large hurricane, that the bayous would flood and that there was a large potential for disaster. People down there talked about a class five the way Californians discuss a huge earthquake-everyone knows that sooner or later the big one is going to hit, that they are woefully unprepared, and each and every successive generation just passed the buck and prayed it didn't hit on their political watch.
Pre-Kat we all knew the problem, endemic state wide long term corruption that had left the state completely exposed.
Blaming anyone on a federal level (Except maybe the Army Corp of Engineers, who build the worst flood protection in the history of society)is just a joke. They had centuries to get ready, squandered almost every opportunity, used graft and corruption to ensure what few projects were undertaken weren't done to spec, and they knew (And know) it.
Louisiana needs to learn the number one rule of finger pointing-yeah, you got one digit pointed outwards, but there are three more coming right back at them.
