People who whistle to get your attention...... Try saying "excuse me"

People who nudge you out of their way........ Try saying "excuse me"

Cyclists, on the pavement, who ring their bell at me..... Try saying "excuse me"

(I don't respond well to whistles and bells)

Locally we have the Boise Greenbelt, which is a paved pathway that follows the Boise River with over 25 miles of paths for the use of pedestrians, bicyclists, skateboarders, and rollerbladers. When someone on wheels approaches a pedestrian from behind the normal "warning" is to call out, "On your left," so that the person walking knows that someone is passing them on the left hand side (the normal side for passing in the States). Unfortunately, when the walker hears the word "left" they seem to tend to automatically move in that direction instead of clearing that side for the person on wheels.

If, instead, you say, "Excuse me," the usual response is for them to stop where they are and turn to look at you, again creating more of a hazard rather than clearing a reasonable pathway for the faster users.

So, the only thing that really seems to work as intended is to use a signaling device like a bell.

Folks seem to forget that some cyclists cruise at about 30 MPH

To be fair I just hate cyclists.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 12:07:06 PM)

The funny thing about that job is that when I finally got a car, my 18.5 mi commute was a whole 5 minutes faster than by bike.
Miami traffic is truly shit.

You haven't driven the Reading IDR, with only Radio Berkshire for entertainment. Man it sucks [:)]!

DommeGoddessEva -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 1:50:55 PM)

If you're riding so fast in a pedestrian area that my standing still suddenly causes you to park you bike in the crack of my arse you're not riding safely. Ring a bell at me and I'm likely to poke it up your arse, it's really that simple.

Me too Gary. That's why I bought a Volvo. Not only does it have cyclist proof paint but also benefits from having windscreen wipers strong enough to clear even a large mountain bike and rider in just a few easy sweeps.

DommeGoddessEva -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 2:00:58 PM)

Ahhhh a Volvo, does this also go for motorcyclists too?

Marc2b -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 2:01:45 PM)

Have you ever had to drive during a power outage and you come upon an intersection where the signal light is out and there is no one directing traffic?

Now, I was taught that in that situation you treat the intersection as an all way stop.

Apparently... I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHO KNOWS THIS AS EVERY ONE ELSE TREATS THE INTERSECTION AS A FUCKING FREE FOR ALL!!!!!!!

Small mopeds, monkey bikes etc no problem, might have to put wipers on to setting 2, but it will shift.

Basically, the manual recommends use of the pedal next to the accelerator for anything above 125cc

DommeGoddessEva -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 2:24:09 PM)

Good good, I'm make an awful mess of your windscreen if you hit me on my 600cc

DommeGoddessEva -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 2:28:12 PM)

Things that bug me...... Litter bugs. There'll be a bin around the corner, it won't kill you to hold on to your rubbish for 5 minutes longer!

jola37 -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 2:30:50 PM)

600cc is fine but you have to manually clear the screen as the wipers can't do it alone.

(I really hope you know I'm joking btw)

DommeGoddessEva -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 2:47:27 PM)

I think so [;)]

As I said, the Greenbelt is for pretty much all non-motorized traffic...foot traffic and wheels alike. If you aren't willing to share the pathway I'd be more than happy to run you over. It's really THAT simple.

MsLadySue -> RE: Things that really bug us..... (8/26/2013 3:00:56 PM)

What really bugs me are the phone calls I get every now and then from a 'technician' at "Windows Support" telling me I have a problem with my computer. It's a wonder I knew who he was supposed to be considering he had a thick, garbled accent from another country.

The last one ticked me off so much I responded, "BULLSHIT! Don't ever call me again." LOL I'm sure it won't be the last call but I sure felt good after.

I remember once when I was riding and some little punk driving mommy's Beemer had his friend lean out the passenger window and punch the back of my head.
They didn't realize my acceleration and they got stuck at a redlight. As I approached, the driver who feared (rightly) for his well being ran the red light. BANG, Mommy's Beemer is totaled. I just sat and leered at them until the cops got there and they not only got charges with failure to yield resulting in contact but they got a nice assault charge.

Trust me, they got off easier than if I had caught them.
